Sources Say Katie Holmes Out Of The Dark Knight

How many of you out there hate it when studios go and switch around the actors/actresses playing main characters in a good TV or movie series? I think it is something nearly all fans can agree on. I understand sometimes that it is necessary for one reason or another, but most of the time, I'd rather they just write the character out of the plot, if at all possible.
Enter Rachel Dawes, the love interest from Batman Begins. Despite general knowledge telling us she'd return, there have long been whispered concerns about the increasingly inscrutable Katie Holmes. And now, LatinoReview adds some fuel to those whispers by indicating Katie Holmes will not return for the long-awaited sequel to the film, but the part of Rachel Dawes will be a part of the story. So we can go ahead and crank up the rumor mill in regards to who will take her place. In the meantime, LatinoReview also says Matt Damon has passed on Harvey Dent, but Ed Norton and Josh Lucas are still being considered (among others, of course), while Oswald Cobblepot has disappeared from the script.
In related Holmes news, she's just signed on to star opposite Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton in Mad Money, the "Ocean's 11 ... but with females" flick we told you about the other day. Yup, she's gone from Batman to Latifah. And are we happy about this?

I have no problem with this. I loved Batman Begins, but Katie Holmes was the one bit of miscasting in an otherwise great film. Normally I like her, but I just didn't think she was right for the role.

Meh- she sucked in the first film and frankly she's got a job being a full-time space cadet so who cares?

i hate the forced love interests in these movies. she was so unnecessary to batman begins. her character could have easily been a young harvey dent. did we need the sexual tension? anyway good riddance. maybe they'll get someone who doesn't look like a 12 year old pretending to be a district attorney.

Whatever stan but anyways glad to hear she's signed on to another movie so such much for that "quitting her career" crap that press kept yapping about and this is why I don't buy into those stupid tabloid stories so easily like others tend to do.

I read right after the premier of BB that Holmes would not be brought back. That was when the Cruise thing started.

She (and by "she" I mean "Tom") probably declined because they intend to kill her character off. I would have rooted for that to happen no matter who the actress a.) to bump Bruce up to another plane of insanity angst and b.) to get rid of the decidedly unnecessary romantic entanglements.
I'll be glad if Rachel disappears between films with her story told in shadowy flashbacks, but if they replace Katie it's bad for continuity.

Maybe they will get someone who will understand Batman better.

Hm... The Latino Review article also mentions the inclusion of a female latin cop in her 30s. Could Renee Montoya be making an appearance?

If they show Renee, will she be gay like she is in the comic book?

While I am not a fan of Katie in the first film, I hate it when characters are re-cast. It breaks the continuity of the film for me. So unless they can find someone who looks A LOT like Katie, I'd rather they write the character out of the film. She can choose to return in future installments if she wishes to do so.

I was happy to hear the news that she was gone, and like previous posts have said before mine, she was the weakest part of Begins.
While I may not be thrilled about the -possible- recasting rumor, I do trust that Nolan will do what is right with the film. He was spot on with Begins and I'm sure once Dark Knight comes out, we'll all look back upon this speculation and laugh.
But on a side note, what was she thinking?? I mean c'mon - passing up one of the most anticipated superhero flicks for a movie starring Queen Latifah that probably won't come close to taking in the amount of cash Dark Knight will make?? Even if she can't act, she's proved that she's not too bright either...
But good riddance to bad rubbish :) Once everyone sees Heath as the Joker, I think we'll all ignore the fact that there's a different person playing Miss Dawes.
And all hail the badassery that is Christian Bale!
