Chris Doohan Wants to Play Scotty

How easy could it be for Paramount to cast the new "young" Star Trek movie? Hire the kids of the original stars. That is what Chris Doohan suggests, anyway. On his MySpace blog (and in the comments section of a previous Cinematical post), he claims that he should at least be considered for the part of young "Scotty", the character originally played by his late father, James Doohan. He even gives a few good (to him) reasons: "1. I kind of look like my dad. 2. I can do a great Scottish accent. 3. We share the last name. 4. I like money."He isn't sure how to go about auditioning for the part, but he's attempting a write-in/call-in campaign. On his blog, he supplies an address and phone number (that might not work, he says) for Paramount Pictures. If he can't get the Scotty role, he would at least like a walk-on role, something he also had for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I think it would be funny if Paramount went completely against Chris' wishes and instead cast his twin brother, Montgomery, but it isn't likely producers would consider either brother. They are more likely to go with somebody with more acting experience than appearing as himself on Breaking Bonaduce. They may not cast a rising star like James McAvoy, but if Chris thinks he has a chance, he's dreaming.

Great article,Thanks. Actually, my brother would probably be a great Scotty, and I think it would be wonderful if he got that role. That being said, I know it's a long shot that either one of us would get that part on the next movie, but you can't blame a guy for trying.

Chris, how dare you dream so big. *note sarcasm* I can't imagine your dad feeling a bit discredited by you. He'd probably pat you on the back and say, "Giver all you got laddie". ;)

It's people who dream, that go far. Those who don't dream pretty much go no where! So Chris, darlin, keep dreaming big!
And to the person that said Chris is discrediting his dad by even suggesting this....what drugs are you on and what planet are you from?

Although I do not like Laura, and I think is is a stalker to you Chris, and is trying to break up your marriage, but besides all that, I hope all this myspace capangning works, and gets you the part cause she sure has everyone knowing about this now. Great job Laura, but I still dont like you, and I think your intentions, and dreams you have of Chris are way overboard, but like you said here "6. It's people who dream, that go far. Those who don't dream pretty much go no where! So Chris, darlin, keep dreaming big!" So this proves you are stuck in a dremaing state half your day, hopefully he gets the part.

I think Chris should stop asking people to help him.Why cant he do this on his own ?are you a retard to Chris?you think just because your dad was an actor that makes you one to.You did no acting on Breaking Bonaduce.Your band was on the show and that was it.A real actor works hard for what they want!! you just want someone to hand you parts in movies while you sit on your ass and let them do the work.

Chris is not asking to be handed the part. I don't understand where anyone is getting that impression. He simply would like an audition.
If his father were the CEO of a corporation no one would find it odd that he would follow or want to follow in those footsteps. I find it absurd that some people find it wrong that Chris would want to be like his dad. He's a natural born entertainer, it's in his blood.

Well Chris is a little to old to follow in his dads footsteps.Chris was born in 1959 dont you think if he had any real talent as an actor he would have already had more roles in other movies?.That is the real problem here if he wants an audition why doesnt he just go get one like other actors do.No he cant do that he has no agent why?because he wants to get online and ride his daddys coat tail around and ask people to help him like a dumbass. Chris, I had the pleasure of meeting your father a couple of times at 2 different conventions in B'ham and his lifetime accomplishments are incredible. I think he would have loved you playing the part of a young SCOTTY. If there is a place I can vote let me know. As a previous comment stated every one has to start somewhere and what better place than a STAR TREK movie!!!!!
