Harry Potter's Sexy Photo Shoot

Announcing that he would appear naked in the stage play Equus did not make Daniel Radcliffe automatically a grown-up. Not even the creepy poster was proof. But now, with some sexy publicity photos (these may be NSFW), the Harry Potter star finally shows that he's no longer a little boy. Nine photos feature Radcliffe shirtless (and scrawny, I might add), most with him standing with a white horse, the others with an also-topless Joanna Christie, his co-star in the play. He also looks more like Elijah Wood than usual in the pictures, which explain why the actors are confused for each other. For the Potter movies, the pictures could be seen as a gift or a problem. Will they attract the aging fans who would have dismissed Radcliffe and his franchise as kid stuff, or will they be too racy for some who will associate the sex with the family films? With the latest in the series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, coming out this summer, the photos certainly have to be a concern of Warner Bros. However, we haven't seen the studio react warily so far, and Radcliffe has been doing other things to shed his kiddie image. The play opens next month.
In other Harry Potter news, a number of spots in England are preparing for a surge in Potter tourism. They say it is in anticipation of the new movie, but something tells me that fans could make a nice vacation out of taking in a performance Equus followed by visits to the Potter shooting locations.

Considering that the mass majority of people who would make a huge stink over him being shirtless are the same people who won't even WATCH Harry Potter because it's 'evil' - I doubt this will affect his fan base much.
It's not a big deal. He's an actor, not a character, and unless he wanders into OotP shirtless on a white horse, there's no need to pretend one role affects another.

I agree. I don't think it'll affect his fan base. In fact I think it is great that he is doing other things. I just hope Emma doesn't decide to quit doing the movies to do other things. She should just work it in the next two movies..

I think he looks damn sexy. I am going to see Equus in March and it should be brilliant. I've heard some very good things about it, and it doesn't hurt that the lead character makes me swoon.

I am very disappointed in this news. He is getting mixed up between talent and nudity. Naked bodies are not talent. If he has to sell himself like this, I don't think his fame will last long.

To quote Rachel Ray- YUM-O!!! I think he looks fantastic, and it will certainly make the Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley "snogging" much more interesting to watch! Nothing wrong with a little sexual tension, and let's face it, the fan base has gotten older with each release. The kids who started watching the very tame first movie are much older now. Each movie has gotten much darker anyway. Let's just enjoy the tasty new Harry Potter bod!

Why do people always have to act shocked when ever a actor does something different. He can't be Harry Potter forever. The boy has grown up, and looking very handsome.

After reading some of the comments I felt I had to share my opinion. Daniel Radcliffe is a talented young man. Many actors have done a 180 in their career; doing one genre, then suddenly appearing in a completely different one. Mr. Radcliffe's talent of being able to perform different characters should be commended, not narrowed down to the costuming..or lack of. The play 'Equus', like other works involving the naked human body, isn't soley about the appearance of the character...people should look past that and enjoy the plot, the writing, the special effects....all of the things that make any entertainment great.

I JUST WATCHED THE MOVIES FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS WEEK,ALL 4 OF THEM AND ME AND THE FAMMILLY LOVED THEM. IT TOOK A LONG TIME FOR US TO SEE THEM BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD BY A CHURCH COPASTOR NOT TO BECAUSE THERE WERE THINGS THAT A CHRISTIAN SHOULD NOT WHATCH IN THE MOVIE. AFTER WATCHING ALL 4 MOVIES WE DID NOT SEE ANYTHING AT ALL WRONG WITH THEM. WE LOVED THEM AND WE ARE LOOKING FOWARD TO THE NEXT ONE. AS FAR AS DANIEL DOING A PLAY NAKED, WELL TO EACH HIS OWN. THE PLAY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HARRY POTTER'S MOVIES . I THINK THAT THE PEOPLE WHO LIKED THE MOVIES AS MUCH AS ME AND MY FAMILLY DID ARE GOING TO SEE THE NEW ONE COMING THIS SUMMER. IS ALL ABOUT THE STORY IN THE MOVIE AND THE CARACTERS NOT ABOUT THE ACTORS PERSONAL LIVE. CAN WAIT TO SEE THE NEW ONE....

Equus is a very good vehicle for an actor of Daniel Radcliffe's age to establish some stage credentials. It's a serious piece of theatre about a psychotherapist working to help a child abuse survivor transcend mental illness. The nude scene is crucial to unraveling the major plot thread of why this adolescent feels driven to kill horses. It's a shame that the play is being hyped as if it were soft-core porn, and titling this blog item "Harry Potter's Sexy Photo Shoot" doesn't help. Radcliffe PLAYS Harry Potter - that doesn't mean that he IS Harry.
I would also add as an aside that one person's "scrawny" is another person's "lean" - just as one person's "fat" is another person's "voluptuous." We all need to get away from these stupidly narrow definitions of physical attractiveness being foisted on us by the mass media and the fashion industry. Human beauty comes in a very broad spectrum of shapes, sizes and colors.

Focus on the fact that Daniel Radcliffe has decided to go onstage (no second takes, folks) in a play as powerful as Equus. The nudity is central to the plot, and the scene usually takes place in very dramatic lighting. It's not a simple part he's playing either. Go Daniel!

I for one am disappointed in Radcliffe's decision to do this role. Yes, I suppose he's of age; he can make his own decisions. Actors are always looking to "shed their image" as a certain character. That's fine. (Although I don't see why. For example, I don't think Harrison Ford cares if he sheds the "Indiana Jones" image or not.) Actors also want to prove that they can do other, more meaty parts. I say if they're good, what is there to prove? I think Radcliffe is a fine actor. He has been fantastic in anything I've ever seen him in. I have no doubt whatsoever that he will be brilliant in anything he does. But why do this role?Yes, for me it's the nudity issue. How does getting naked make you a better actor? Like I said, if you're good you can make anyone believe in any character, even with your clothes on. Most of his fans (the young ones) will be so in awe of the fact that he's naked to even really take a look at his truly fine acting performance. Dan, get your clothes back on and make a real impression with your pure acting ability, not your naked body.

I think he looks great, which suprises me.
I don't see an Elijah Wood similarity, I see more Jake Glynnehal (sp?)...and that's a good thing.

I dont think it'll matter what he does outside of Harry Potter. If people cant see the difference between movies/plays and reality they are the ones with a problem, not him. Hes an actor, it is his job to act in different types of roles. The more diverse his parts, the better an actor he is. If people can't distinguish between Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter, they are disillusioned and probably need not watch one or the other: him being in a risque play or him playing Harry Potter. Their call.

Have any of the people having the hang-ups about Daniel being naked ever read this story or seen the film w/ Richard Burton many years ago? It's not like the character of Alan is in the buff the entire play. It's only a couple of scenes. And given the subject matter, it is not a play for very young children. It is for adults with some critical thinking ability. I have to believe that most of the people getting all bent about the nudity issue are fellow Americans. We're a really screwed up bunch when it comes to anything REMOTELY associated with human sexuality and the body. Blessing to you Daniel, you are beautiful and a true artist.
