EXCLUSIVE: Photos From the Upcoming Underdog Movie

A film version of the hit '60s and '70s TV series Underdog flies into theaters Aug. 3, but you don't have to wait until then to get your first glimpse of the canine superhero. We have an exclusive look at two very iconic photos from an upcoming calendar being used to promote the film (click on the photos below to see larger versions). Jason Lee (Chasing Amy, TV's My Name Is Earl) stars as the voice of an average dog named Shoeshine who develops some pretty nifty super powers after a laboratory accident. But while he gains the ability to talk and fly, unfortunately he does not develop the capacity to scoop his own poop.

You bet - "There's no need to fear, Underdog is here." One of the all time great cartoons - it will be fun to see what they have done with a real dog.

Well this looks awful. Does the dog even know it is in a movie? In the top picture it looks like it is just sitting on the floor.

UNDERDOG IS THE GREATEST CARTOON HERO OF ALL TIME. I'M NOT CRAZY ABOUT THE "ACTOR" CHOSEN TO PLAY THE ROLE. THEY SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH A BEAGLE BUT BEAGLES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN KNOWN FOR THEIR COMEDY AS OPPOSED TO THEIR SERIOUS ACTING. FOR ALL WE KNOW HE WON'T BE ABLE TO RECITE HIS LINES. EVEN A CRUMMY UNDERDOG MOVIE WILL GET THE ORIGINAL CARTOON RERUN ON TV AND RERELEASED ON DVD.

They've "Scoobey Doo'd" our Underdog!! The humor only works because of the absurdity of the cartoon format. When you change that to live action, the absurd just look stupid and lame. How does the dog come off as mild mannered Shoe Shine boy? In the cartoon, the facial expressions change. Not Happy in California!
