Dark Knight Rumors Fly Fast and Furious: Eckhart as Dent, Gyllenhaal as Dawes?

Hey, it's not officially a day in the life of Cinematical if we don't have any Dark Knight rumors to share with you, especially now that Katie Holmes has dropped out, leaving folks scrambling to find a replacement. As most of you know by now, the first name to pop out of the post-Holmes hat was Rachel McAdams ... which, honestly, was completely fine by me. I dig McAdams, for real. However, the internets are never happy with only one name, and so two more ladies have slid into contention by way of a few super top secret tipsters alerting sites like Latino Review and Cinema Blend.
The latest names rumored to be up for the part of Rachel Dawes -- are you ready -- Emily Blunt and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Not only that, but apparently Aaron Eckhart has come out of nowhere and is now the front-runner to play Harvey Dent. Wow. Okay, let's analyze: Personally, I'd rather stare at a black spot on my wall than watch Emily Blunt in anything, let alone a Batman flick. So, in my book, she's out. Now, Gyllenhaal would be interesting. She's got cute, cool and confident all wrapped up in one big adorable package.
And, if it were between her and McAdams, I think I'd have to go with Gyllenhaal ... if only because she has this ability to melt my heart within the first five minutes of appearing on screen. Secret big-screen crushes aside, what do you think about Aaron Eckhart playing Harvey Dent (a.k.a. Two Face)? He certainly has the acting chops, but is he capable of going the nutty route?

Eckhart? The nutty route? Eckhart plays psycho like nobody's business ... look no further than the highly underappreciated "Thursday". I, for one, think he would be perfect for the role.

Maggie Gyllenhaal would be great, but they should save her for Harley Quinn.

Well, he's a much better Dent that Jamie Foxx would be. I've had friends tell me of the unspeakable things they would do if Foxx took the role (due to the fact that they claim he ruined In Living Color.)

Jamie Foxx's career will start winding down in four... three... two...
I suspect Katie Holmes had a pay-or-play to do the second film and was "excused" after working out the details.
Aaron Eckhart is fantastic. He is icky and smarmy in one of my all-time favorites, "In the Company of Men." I hope he'll be the lead in NBC's pilot for "Thanks for Smoking," which won't be nearly as compelling without him.

Maggie all the way. *Secretary* rocked.
Still, why even have the character [Rachel] anymore? Make room for Talia Al Ghul as the love interest, please.

I like Eckhard in general, but I think he's a bit too predictable for this part. I liked both of the earlier rumors of Jamie Foxx and Edward Norton. I know some people don't like Foxx, but I think seeing a black guy in a major roll where race isn't an issue would be a nice change (not to mention an amazing change for a Hollywood film). Edward Norton, on the other hand, is good in everything, so I'm good with him, too.
As for Rachel Dawes, who cares? She shouldn't be in the movie anyway. Batman is too busy fighting crime to have a girlfriend. As Bruce Wayne he needs to come off as a shallow playboy. If it's a contact inside the legal system Dawes functions as, what's Jim Gordon for? Which reminds me--Gary Oldman is coming back, right? His incredibly faithful portrayal of Gordon gave me chills.
If there MUST be a love interest in Dark Knight, just move on to Selina Kyle. She's really Batman's Lois Lane, anyway.
Just my 2 yen :)

I wouldn't classify TwoFace as being nutty.
Paranoid schizophrenic sure with deep emotional issues going back to his childhood, sure.

Maggie Gyllenhaal. Not only that, but apparently Aaron Eckhart
I could see Aaron Eckhart do it, but it would be nice to get Edward Norton. I think Norton has the potentional to bring alot to the character.
Foxx also has potential, but I'm not too sure how well he would transition to Two-Face.
I can also see Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel, but at the same time I can't. While she did have a somewhat important role in the first movie, I think that Rachel is not realy necessary in the second movie. First off, both Batmand and Bruce were pretty good friends with Harvey in the comics, so why not incorporate more of that. If you want to put Maggie in, make her a new character (perhaps a secretary).
I guess we will have to wait and see.

Cool news! Gyllenhall would be excellent. As for Eckhart, just watch Thank You For Smoking and you will be convinced he can do the role. He can switch from sweet to slimy in seconds. Add a little bit of a violent streak and voila... Harvey Dent/Two-Face.

If they ditch McAdams for Gyllenhaal then I will do the unthinkable and refuse to see a Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, and/or Batman movie.
But I trust Nolan. But he allowed Holmes.
You've ruined my day.

I'm disappointed that Katie Holmes is not going to be in the sequel. I think she's way hotter than Maggie Gyllehhall, although Maggie is a great actress. But I don't get how they can say that she is going to play Rachel Dawes when obviously she is not the orginal, Holmes is. I wonder what kind of a story they are going to come up with. Katie doesn't really have to work, she's married to Tom Cruise, and how much did he make on Mission Impossible 3? I heard close to like 30 million (definitly 20 something millon) Plus, she's enjoying the birth of her new born, I doubt that she'd really want to be busy shooting a movie of that volume while caring for a newborn.
