Indiana Jones Has a Son Now?

Some rumors have such a ring of truth that you're willing to overlook the fact that it's all attributed to the anonymous source of an anonymous source's uncle who heard it from someone else. The rumor AICN is currently peddling -- that Steven Spielberg darling Shia LaBeouf has been cast as the son of Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones 4 -- may be one such rumor. I've frankly never understood how this kid keeps getting such high-profile gigs for Dreamworks, but he continues to pile them up. First, he landed a starring role in the much-touted thriller Disturbia, which is coming in April, and then a starring role in Michael Bay's Transformers, coming July 4. All based on what -- his fabulous performance in The Battle of Shaker Heights? Someone (cough, cough) is clearly watching out for this guy.
The Indy-son rumor, which AICN's Drew McWeeny says is coming from some "pretty reliable places," is also being backed up by other sources around the Web that have picked up similar rumblings. I personally hope this is one rumor that gets squashed. If it's true, LaBeouf's role would probably be that of a wise-cracking youngster who drags Grandpa' Jones around by the ear through the whole movie, and that's just not what fans want from the series. And who is the mother? Marion Ravenwood? Kate Capshaw? The blonde Nazi from Last Crusade? Indiana Jones 4 is currently penciled in for a May 22, 2008 release.

It wouldn't be Elsa (the blonde from The Last Crusade); she was very much dead before she would have been able to give birth.
Besides, if it was her how would we know that Connery wasn't the father?

What about Karen Allen? She was my favourite out of Indy's women. Surely, it must be her and it would be great if she gets cast again.
Just looked ta imdb and she is rumoured to be the one cast:

I saw on IMDB where Natalie Portman is rumored to be in the cast as well. Are we going to have an Indy brother/sister duo? Perhaps Portman will play the girlfriend to Indy's son and she finds herself in a bit of trouble. I am definitely concerned that the franchise will be cheapened by the son (or daughter) bit.

Indy with a son? Too much testosterone... especially with Sean Connery returning as his dad. How about a tough daughter to really kick some male a$$ and take names? Or, would that remind people of Hillary?

I actually like Shia. He was great in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and is all around a versatile up-and-coming young actor. I expect him to be great in Disturbia and Transformers too, but I guess I'll form a better opinion once I see both. Honestly, I like him taking on this role and think he could do a good job. It's just up to the screenwriter and everyone else to put together a good movie for him to be in and not a cheesy why-did-you-make-this 4th sequel.

I've always hated Shia LaBeouf. I hated him in "I, Robot," and I've hated him ever since. I don't care if he's the greates actor since DeNiro, just his presence on the screen annoys me to no end. I haven't disliked an actor this much since Cory Feldman. My heart sank when I heard he was going to be in Transformers. Bad enough I have to deal with Michael Bay, but Shia LaBeouf as well? And now THIS! I swear to God that if he shows up in Indy 4 I'm never going to another movie as long as I live.

Bottom line: Shia LeBeouf is talented. I would hope if they're gonna create a role like this, that a)they know what they're doing - and they probably do, and b)that they would cast someone talented in said role. They've got one half taken care of; time will tell for the rest. And I would imagine that it is indeed Marion and Indy's boy. . .with two parents like that, he's probably a cool character, so we should all wait and see before we mob up at the Dreamworks front gates, torches in hand.

If you're doubting LaBeouf's talent, you obviously haven't seen A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. He is a phenom in it.
I'm a tad curious as to what makes him Spielberg's darling, however. Other than his being cast in Transformers, a movie Spielberg merely produced, and then this rumor...

Shia keeps getting the big roles because he's talented. Few youngsters out there have leading man material in them, but Shia was born with it. He has charisma, comic timing, and a vulnerablity most actors twice his age haven't figured out yet. He's a standout in all his films and I'm sorry you haven't been awake in the past few years, because Shaker Heights (which he was the backbone, heart, and only stong talent in) was several years ago. What about his performances in The Greatest Game Ever Played, Bobby, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints? He's an amazing kid and I was quite shocked to see someone who is suppose to be an educated member of the business not recognizing this. He's the next big thing-get on the bandwagon or blush about your comments later.
