Discuss: Jim Carrey's Best Movies
Filed under: Lists, Hold the 'Fone
Jim Carrey has evolved from sketch comedy sparkplug to three-time Oscar snubbee with an impressive career that's included some of the most memorable (and lucrative) films of the past 15 years. But what has been his best role to date? We weigh the wacky (Dumb and Dumber) against the winsome (Eternal Sunshine) -- and those somewhere in between (Man on the Moon) -- in ranking The Number 23 star's very best. Check out Moviefone's top 11 picks, then tell us what you think.

The Cable Guy? Me, Myself, and Irene? and Eternal Sunshine at #1? Those should be on the other list of Jim Carey's worst movies.

Amazing that whomever wrote this web piece saw the same movies that I did. Liar Liar is Carey's obvious #1. It actually shows he has talent as an actor. Bruce Almighty I can go along with as #2. The fact that someone is funny without having to go "over the top" if far more apealing to me. Not that there are not HYSTERICAL pieces of the other movies, but it shows much more talent and ability to harness the humor and provide a movie that is believable (even if it is not plausible). ;-)

I respectfully disagree with this list. Ace Ventura should NOT be that far down the list! Dumb & Dumber i can see being No2 and then Liar Liar should be No1. Also, Cable Guy?? that should be either 11 or not even on the list....AND the Mask needs to be higher up too!! Truman Show?? should not be near the top, sorry. Jim Carrey does funny best, even though his serious movies have done well, we all know and love him for his funny crazy sense of humor! I have yet to see the Number 23, and i have not heard great things, which is upsetting since i love him so much, but we will see if that one deserves to be on the list over the not-so-greats such as Truman Show, Lemony Snicket and the Cable Guy.

Eternal Sunshine is by far Jim Carrey's best movie. It is obvious he can be a goof and make silly faces in all of his movies. The fact that you can watch Eternal Sunshine and get so sucked into the movie that you actually forget Jim Carrey is playing the main lead proves that he did an amazing performance.

The 'List' is completely backwards. #11 should be #1 and #1 should be #11. Better yet, it should actually go even further the list. The Grinch was definitely better than the 'Cable Guy'. This obviously was the decision of one (Dictator Complex) person and not a popular vote.

I don't usually care much for movies that showcase Jim Carrey's humor. His face-distorting expressions simply don't make me laugh. However, he is an outstanding actor in serious roles, and if he stuck to those, he could probably win an Oscar. By the way, does anyone remember his early serious role as an alcoholic in "Doing Time on Maple Drive"?

Okay, you simpletons. And by simpletons, I don't mean the creators of this list, but the posters who responded. Here's the deal, you retards: Not only is "Eternal Sunshine" Jim Carrey's best movie, it's also one of the four greatest movies of all time. If you can't understand that, don't bother to respond to this post. I can't debate imbeciles. We lack an axiomatic fundament. A common ground, if you will. You think paste tastes good, I don't. Can't really debate that one with you.

Liar, Liar! One of our favorites! No doubt the man is tremendously talented, but I must say I love him in the comedy roles.

It's a give in that Carrey is a great actor when it comes to comedy. Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, and Ace Ventura just to name a few. I think people are so used to seeing him in those types of roles now though, they don't give him a fair shot at any other type of role because they expect humor. The first movie of his I saw that wasn't a comedy was "The Majestic" and I enjoyed it. I'd really like to see the number 23 as well- try to see him in another light. He's just been doing comedy so long it's hard to see him as anything other than the guy in "The Mask" or "Once Bitten" some of those movies on the list I haven't seen, others I was surprised even made it. I guess it's all a matter of taste and what you're looking at when reviewing the movies.

Obviously Eternal Sunshine at #1. No question. I'm sorry there are ignorant people clamoring that they just "didn't get it". That's not Jim Carrey's fault. That movie was brilliant. Moving on, #2 should remain Dumb and Dumber. I would put the first Ace Ventura at #3, Cable Guy at 4, Liar Liar at 5, and the rest you can just sort out given that they are 2nd rate anyway. Also, we could do ourselves a favor and pretend Ace Ventura 2 never got made and Once Bitten was a "foot-in-the-door" movie.
