Little Fockers Confirmed
Filed under: Comedy, Universal, Remakes and Sequels
It seems Teri Polo wasn't lying last month when she said there would be another sequel to Meet the Parents. Here, I thought she was just making up stuff in the hopes Universal would agree that a third installment is a good idea. She definitely needs the job more than the rest of the franchise's cast. In fact, I bet she's hoping for a television spin-off (on which she'd be the only actor to follow her part to the tube, I'm sure). Anyway, it is true. Universal is moving ahead with Little Fockers. The sequel, which follows the comical next step by featuring children, was confirmed with the studio's renewing of its contract with Robert DeNiro's and Jane Rosenthal's Tribeca Productions, which will produce the movie. Jay Roach will be returning to the franchise as director and Larry Stuckey is set to write the script. Obviously Polo, DeNiro, Ben Stiller, and Blythe Danner will all have to return, possibly joined by Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand. And no Fockers movie is complete without a visit from Owen Wilson.
Unlike a lot of people, I hated Meet the Parents but really enjoyed Meet the Fockers, mostly due to Hoffman though for other reasons as well. I'm pretty positive that I would not like this third movie, though, because I feel like I already know every joke it will include. I could do without any more first-time diaper change gags, thank you. Anyway, didn't the second movie already feature enough kiddie comedy? Still, I'm very glad they're making this. My mother absolutely loves the first two and I'm sure she'll love another. And anything that makes Mom happy makes me happy.

Chris, how can this be true? The first was a classic. The second was a bit tedious and over the top.
I whole heartedly agree that the third can't be good and that they already explored this territory in the last movie.

Chris did you hate meet the parents because it attacked liberals and like meet the fockers because it attacked conservatives. I'm middle of the road republican and i thought both films were fantastic. My good liberal buddy kind of has the same take as you. hated deniro in the first, loved hoffman in the second. i like them both because of their sense of irony.

Chris, you're killing me here. I thought Meet The Parents was one of the best comedies of the past 10 years, while the second one stunk up the joint. I understand not jiving with it as much, but hating it? I didn't think that was possible.

I agree with you Chris. The first one was AWFUL. I get it, everything that could go wrong does, okay move on. Theres no creativity there. You take an already stressful real life event and go over the top. How about next time you make a movie about getting your drivers license, but the person testing you is a total dick, the car breaks down, you blow a tire, get hit by a car, and find a joint in the back seat? Wouldn't that be hilarious?!

Meet the Parents is just another display of Stiller's awkward shtick that he did better and originally in Flirting With Disaster. In retrospect it is better than others, like Along Came Polly, but there isn't much else to it than that discomfort, murphy's law thing.
Also, I think both Stiller and DeNiro feel less forced and less conscious of their respective shticks in Fockers. I don't know if the plot is any funnier than the first, but it plays more naturally. I definitely think the first is more over the top.

You must be a youngster. LOL Actually, Gary Burghoff who played Radar O'Reilly in Mash followed his role to the TV series.

Why do you have to pick on Teri Polo? Like she deserves to be ridiculed for not being as famous as the others.

Meet the Parents was nothing short of brilliant. Meet the Fockers was not as good; still sort of funny though. I have no interest in this third one, though. Whenever they introduce children into the formula, they're jumping the shark. Too bad.

Can't wait for that Wildmon guy in Tupelo, Mississippi, the one who is always trying to keep the world safe from titles such as "Little Fockers"
to organize a boycott of the movie.
If I were the person at Tribeca Films responding to such a ridiculous threat, I'd say to Rev. Wildmon, "Donnie, baby, relax. The title we originally planned to use was "Mother Focker" ~ so you see, it coulda been worse."

I don't know if a third sequal is a good idea at all....I call them the 'beautiful letdowns', only good enough for the small screen.

I cannot imagine who or HOW they will find an actress to replace Nicole DeHuff in her role as Deborah. God bless her soul, she was a very funny actress, and her presence will be missed in this third installment.

I thought both movies were great,,,,it's wonderful to watch something "innocently funny" instead of all the hating, killings, and obscene movies that are out now. My kids and grandkids enjoyed them both. I am looking forward to the 3rd movie. Joanne
