James Cameron Claims To Have Discovered The Tomb Of Jesus Christ (No, I'm Not Kidding)
Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy, Fandom, Newsstand, Religious
This Sunday, director James Cameron and archaeologist Simcha Jacobovici will premiere a new documentary on the Discovery Channel entitled "The Lost Tomb of Jesus," which lays out evidence that a well-known holy relic called The Talpiot Tomb is in fact the crypt that once held the bones of Jesus Christ. The press release states that "scientific evidence, including DNA analysis conducted at one of the world's foremost molecular genetics laboratories, as well as studies by leading scholars, suggests a 2,000-year-old Jerusalem tomb could have once held the remains of Jesus of Nazareth and his family. The findings also suggest that Jesus and Mary Magdalene might have produced a son named Judah." The press release also noted that this could be "the greatest archaeological find in history," since it could satisfy many that, you know, there's no God.
Cameron, Jacobovici and others will hold a news conference at 11:00 a.m today to prepare the world for the documentary. The relics in question are ten coffins, unearthed by a construction crew in the early 1980s in a suburb of Jerusalem. Each of the coffins were preserved in a hidden cave that archaeologists estimate to be 2,000 years old. For the last twenty years, careful analysis has been done to decode the names on the caskets, and here are the names they finally came up with: Jesua, Joseph, Mary, Mary, Matthew, Jofa and Judah. Sounds like the right family tree to me.
Mitochondrial DNA tests have been done on the coffins thought to be that of Jesus and Mary Magdalene at Lakehead University's Paleo-DNA laboratory -- the tests showed that the two individuals had no maternal DNA linkage. Rumor has it that Cameron may actually display the coffins during today's news conference. I'm not going to tell you where in New York Cameron will be speaking, because I don't want you to turn up and assassinate him or anything, but just to comfort the fanatics out there, Cameron hasn't announced any plans to scoop Jesus's DNA off the coffin and resurrect him (again) or anything. So everyone please take this news in stride.

First, if anything, it could be used to argue the divinity of Jesus, not that God doesn't exist.
Second, I hate how drudgereport, and now HERE, use headlines saying that James Cameron believes that HE discovered this. He's only the executive producer of the documentory, and this sort of headline makes the whole concept seem more of a joke.

If it is Jesus, that won't take away from his divinity. However, it's well documented that after the event of the cross Mary Magdalene went to and stayed in Marseille France as did the sons and daughters of Jesus. The mother of Jesus moved to the Isle of Avalon and eventually died there...along with Joseph of Aramathea; Jesus' uncle.

I can just picture Dan Brown grinning. His Davinci Code does illuminate on the notion that the homeboy JC was married to his shorty Mary Magdalena.
Anyway, I feel that JC, (the film maker) will benefit from this documentary. First of all he will display to all of us what a great discovery this has been and make us think.
Second, by the time this publicity dies out it will be time for AVATAR to be released.
(2009)
"You mean there's a new movie by that guy who proved Jesus was married and had kids?"
"Yeah!"
"Ok, lets' check it out."
Million$ will be made.

I love a good conspiracy, but I don't think this will be that good. The last Discovery special that Cameron and Jacobovici did seemed to be grasping at straws in trying to prove the Exodus story. Plus the CGI was overbearing, to say the least.
I also prefer my Middle Eastern revisionist history to come from Israel Finkelstein, thank you very much. His views seem to be the saner (and more scholarly), and he's also more charasmatic to boot.

Reputable archaologists are already announcing this a fraud. While the tomb does date from the right time, the names are all too common and the family was far too wealthy. And DNA would only show they were natives to the region.
Recall the fake tomb of James controversy a few years back or the over-hyped Gospel of Judas (that was actually part of the Nag Hammadi library discovered in 1948). People always jump to conclusions on religious matters. And if there's a body in Jeshua's or Miriam's tomb, that will cause all sorts of anxiety to true believers who believe in the ascension stories.

What is Mr Cameron saying about the DNA tests that were performed. Was there a DNA match between JESUS, MARY, his mother and JUDAH, reportedly the son of Jesus. Is there evedince to show that the three DNAs were linked. What does Mr Cameron have on that?

honestly, this is craziness. Why are people always out there to prove this and that and can't just accept that Jesus was the only pure man on earth sent by God? And how would Cameron get Jesus' DNA, Mary's DNA and Joseph's DNA? Let's see, he died over 2000 years ago! For all we know, Cameron might be making all this up! And this will just be another DaVinci code movie, I mean seriously guys, just leave Jesus alone!

the significance of the DNA evidence is it shows that the Jesus and Mary (apparently they know the name on the box to be the same as Mary Magdeline) are not related. The significance of this is that since it's a family tomb, the only reason non blood relatives would be buried together is if they were married.
Also, a statitician figured that considering how common the names were and such, there would be about 1 in 600 chances that it's coincidence that all those names are together in a tomb.
Not completely backing the story, just telling you what I've read about it.

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.
DNA testing works through comparison. The DNA test of the remains, even if it's true, will ONLY prove whether the people (whose remains were found) related or not. It DOES NOT provide any credible proof that any of these people were indeed the person Jesus Christ, regarded as the Son of God by Christians. Why? Simply, does anyone have the DNA of Jesus Christ to compare with?
James Cameron and his crew's argument that this is not a publicity stunt is as good as a claim made by all second-hand car salesman and his dog saying that all of the car he sells are in excellent condition.

well see james' plans are simple... see... first u dig up some corpse, take his dna... then ask jesus to desend from the sky to compare dna. what ... sounds logical to me... this is about as ripe as that banana i dropped behind my fridge last month. religion (not knockin) is each to there own. i respect it, not following but understand what it can do for people. dont take that away.

I wholeheartedly agree with #8 and #10, yes why do they not leave Him alone. If the God of the Bible was actually buried at that tomb in Talpiot, don't you think it would have been written in the Bible? No where in the Bible does it say Joseph of Aramithea was His uncle. Obviously no one has read the Bible but yet you dispute what is written by God. Do you know how dynamic that Book is, try reading it. The world as we know it will soon be coming to an end and you will see His Wrath when you go against His Word. LEAVE HIM ALONE, HE BELONGS ONLY TO HIS TRUE BELIEVERS AND WE ARE MAD BECAUSE OF ALL THE LIES WRITTEN ABOUT HIM. WE LOVE HIM SO VERY MUCH.

The bones of Jesus Christ "silliness"
First of all, I think everybody should be able to understand one logical conception.
If the Almighty exists, he can do what ever he wants. He doesn't have to do it in any natural manner that man can explain.
This sets up a situation where investigators trying to prove events in the Bible by the scientific methods, look to find natural causes to explain some stated supernatural happening.
You have all seen it. Docudramas explaining how all the plagues happened naturally during Moses’ time in Egypt. Or those investigating Noah's flood uses natural processes to explain why almost all cultures have a flood story.
I remember reading a book called the Passover Plot, while in college. The author believed that Jesus and his Apostles conspired to fulfill the prophecies that came before him so as to fake his way into being the messiah. Only, according to the author, it all backfired when Jesus ate extracts of a plant to fake his death and died for real.
Even as little more than a Child, I could see through that one. The Prophecies were ancient, going back before Moses, but some were Characterized in Moses' time by a Lamb without blemish, killed on the 14th day of Nisan (abib) without a bone being broken. The blood of this Lamb saved His people in Egypt.
The Jews acted out this for 1500 years until Jesus’ time. This Jesus that John the Baptist spoke about, saying "Behold God's lamb that takes away the sins of the world", was crucified the same year prophesied by Daniel. This Jesus was killed the 14th day of Nisan as the priests were sacrifying their lamb. The whole Congregation, Jews and Romans was gathered against him. No bone OF His body was broken. This was the only year possible and yes he was supposed to die to fulfill this and the many dozens of other predictions.
A man and his disciples could conspire, but they could not make other people, some dead for hundreds of years before their time as well as the separate cultures of Roman and Jews, do exactly what it took to fulfill those predictions.
Now comes the Discovery Channel and the program last night purporting to have found Jesus' bones and that of his family. It is always amazing how people find it easier to accept spurious documents known to be written several hundred years after Christ rather than eye witness accounts, if they can use it for evidence supporting their pet theories.
Now listen up every logical person.
A person will ONLY die for something in which he really believes.
If you truly believe that if you kill innocent people, you will get to go to heaven and have 70 virgins, some will dare die for it. If you believe that jumping on a bomb will save your friends, whom you love, or help win a battle and maybe even save your NATION and the future of your family, some will choose death.
People only die for something in which they truly believe.
Different from every other religion, the whole Christian experience is only relevant if Christ was raised from the dead. The body is what is buried. and it is also what is raised, changed. A spirit does not need to be raised from the dead. So the program last night was a direct frontal assault on Christianity.
To paraphrase the apostle Paul, He said, "Why are we in peril, (as they were at that time) all our lives, if the dead does not rise. For if the dead does not raise, then Jesus did not rise. If Jesus was not raised, then our faith is but vanity and we are false prophets, still in sin."
The Apostle Peter chimed in by saying, "We have not followed cunningly devised fables, but were eyewitnesses of his Majesty."
Now, it is known that the earliest documents in the New Testament were written during the lifetimes of these apostles. Their letters to the Churches testify of what their beliefs were and who they associated with.
These documents and secular history agree in several ways.
1. There was a man Called Jesus of Nazareth
2. This man claimed to be the Christ.
3. This man was crucified on the Jewish Passover day.
5. This man's body disappeared.
6. His Apostles preached his death burial and resurrection.
7. They died getting out this "good news". (Gospel)
No man dies willingly for something he does not believe.
These men, say that this Jesus, after he was risen, ate, drank, went fishing, had teaching sessions and meals for 40 days after the resurrection.
He allowed them to touch and handle him, saying, "A spirit does not have flesh and bone as you see me have." At one time according to them, over 500 people saw him at the same time before his mission was finished here.
Then He left with all his disciples watching him being received up into a cloud.
Now these are not the things of Hallucinations. Either these things are true or they are lies.
What is even more evident is, THEY KNEW WHICH IT WAS!
Then they went out, never to have riches, never to have creature comforts, their lives being in constant danger, being jailed often, fed to lions, burned with fire or hunted like wild animals.
As scripture would say at one point,” If in this life only we have hope, we are of all men MOST MISERABLE!
These men gave their lives because they Knew Jesus rose from the dead and therefore all that was written about him was true.
This is the type of testimony that would hold up in court by the per ponderousness of the evidence.
Now, Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the EVIDENCE of things not seen.
This means that they believed that he was born without a Human Father. This would likely mean that he had only 23 chromosomes and not 46.
He was not married and had no Children. They saw and knew he was taken bodily into heaven and testified about it in the most powerful way people could, with their blood.
So, regardless whose bodies was in those ossuaries, it is evident that it was not Jesus of Nazareth, The Christ, the Son of the living God.
