Oded Fehr Says He's Not in 'Mummy 3'
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Casting, Remakes and Sequels
We're still waiting for word on official casting for Mummy 3. There is so much news in the not-news, that I'm wondering if this will even get off the ground. We've already got Brendan Fraser saying that he's waiting for the call, while IMDb has him attached, we have rumors of Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh possibly jumping on-board and we've got a filming location in Montreal. There isn't word on Ms. Weisz, or whether John Hannah will return as Jonathan Carnahan. However, we are minus one cast member, according to Oded Fehr.IGN has reported that while promoting Resident Evil at WonderCon 2007, Fehr said that he would not be returning to the Mummy franchise as Ardeth Bay -- but it isn't for lack of interest. It seems that this story has no use for the character, and Fehr is quoted as saying: "As far as I know, I'm not involved. My character is not involved in the third one... If they did ask me to do a third one, I would gladly do it." He also says that: "The movie will forever be very close to my heart, and it's very much a part of me being an actor." Apparently the people whipping together this sequel don't feel the same way. While I can understand that sometimes stories don't warrant having every character, they're already taking a risk by making yet another one. It seems extra-risky to me to leave off one of the main characters. Is this further confirmation that the sequel won't be worth it, or does it really matter?

It's too bad he's not involved. They probably could have made a spin-off movie featuring his character. Anyone else love this guy in Sleeper Cell?

Much as I love Brendan Fraser, I really only went to the Mummy movies to see Oded Fehr. And he's even more charismatic in person.

That's too bad, his character is the most complex of them all. He seems to know the desert way more, and will cost the producers litle money in a cameo.
He's part of an ansamble cast and will benefit the movie by being in it.
My suspition is the script takes place in the city where the mummy will go and break havoc, and I guess
Ardeth Bay's character is not required.
I will see this movie no matter who is in it. I mean, how bad can it be? A LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN bad?
I say: take the kid away, drop the English humor by John Hannah and keep the story moving and fresh, and for God's sake learn from Lucas and Steven, who'll get everyone into Raiders 4 (from Mirion, Short Round, Kate Capshaw, and the man with the monkey.)
Trivia for you movie fans: Name the only person who got killed 3 times by Indiana Jones, one in each movie.

It would be a big mistake not having the character of Ardeth Bay in the sequal. I to would rather see less or none of the O'Connel's son and less of Jonathan. If anyting I could see the Character, Ardeth, having no choice but to come in from the desert and into the city to help 'destroy' the mummy, help rescue the girl-again, or even have to 'rescue' Rick out of some personal situation. I love these movies! They are adventerous, and fun with out all the usual blood and guts and F---ing bad language, lol. and who doesn't like looking at these 2 awesome guys, Fraser and Fehr. It's a shame they killed off the BIG guy ( of Imotep's guard) in #2 he wasn't bad either. You get a little bit of history too. I have looked up some of the names of these pharoahs and queens and they are for real. Besides that, I can sit and watch them with my children. So COME ON people at Universal! Get with it and don't blow it!!!

The main turn off for any sequel is to either omit a main character or replace them with another actor.
I have been an avid fan of the first two movies in the series, but I won't pay to see a hollywood style watered down version. Can you say straight to the Blockbuster Video shelves?

Yes....Sleeper Cell is magnificent. And yes, I too only watched The Mummy series because of Oded. I suppose that means that I will NOT be seeing the third! And Cath.....so jealous that you have seen him in person!

Arnold Vosloo and Oded Fehr had more charisma respectively than the whole rest of the cast put together. I hope they give these two their own movies, because I don't think I'll go see this one.

This character is a major part of the story. I love him! And the relationship between him and Fraser, as protectors, was developed in the Mummy Returns. I watch these movies over and over and it isn't Jonathan that I'm looking at.

That sucks...he was a great character in the first two. As much as I'd like to see a third film, I think they should stop with the sequel and its totally kick-ass spin-off if all the main characters aren't going to be coming back.

Can you say "SEXY" without saying Oded Fehr's name in the same sentence? I think NOT! I couldn't wait to see the Mummy & Mummy Return to see him in ACTION.

When you mess with the casting you mess with the whole dynamics of the storyline. In keeping with the storyline you have to keep with the usual cast. I loved him in these movies and it will be hard to watch one without him. I don't know if I can.

GIO-Rats-I don't know his name but it is the guy who was a Nazi in the one movie who had the burn on his palm of the medallion. He melted when the Ark was opened. I know he played another character in the 3rd movie but I cannot remember who. Did anyone really watch the second movie when the went to see it?

I personally love the mummy movies, I think Brandon Frasier was great and funny, could do without the son though. But yes, Oded Fehr is hot and that is why my friend and I watch the movies over and over. But really, how can they make a third movie without Fehr, he is such a strong and vital character to the stories, it would be a real mistake not to put him in a sequal?!

Making this movie without Oded Fehr is a HUGE mistake. His character is the most complex and interesting of the lot. And if they mnake the film cnetered in a city, think of the "fish out of water" possibilities" with the character and having it be Rick's turn to lead Ardeth through dangerous terrain that Aedeth isn't familar with.
I agree with Renee. If you're going to leave anyone out you should leave out the character of Jonathan or ditch Rick's son. They were both basically comic relief and you really only need one of those types in a movie.
