Oded Fehr Says He's Not in 'Mummy 3'
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Casting, Remakes and Sequels
We're still waiting for word on official casting for Mummy 3. There is so much news in the not-news, that I'm wondering if this will even get off the ground. We've already got Brendan Fraser saying that he's waiting for the call, while IMDb has him attached, we have rumors of Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh possibly jumping on-board and we've got a filming location in Montreal. There isn't word on Ms. Weisz, or whether John Hannah will return as Jonathan Carnahan. However, we are minus one cast member, according to Oded Fehr.IGN has reported that while promoting Resident Evil at WonderCon 2007, Fehr said that he would not be returning to the Mummy franchise as Ardeth Bay -- but it isn't for lack of interest. It seems that this story has no use for the character, and Fehr is quoted as saying: "As far as I know, I'm not involved. My character is not involved in the third one... If they did ask me to do a third one, I would gladly do it." He also says that: "The movie will forever be very close to my heart, and it's very much a part of me being an actor." Apparently the people whipping together this sequel don't feel the same way. While I can understand that sometimes stories don't warrant having every character, they're already taking a risk by making yet another one. It seems extra-risky to me to leave off one of the main characters. Is this further confirmation that the sequel won't be worth it, or does it really matter?

I loved Mummy 1 & 2. It is a BIG mistake to not use the same characters that they used in them. Maybe not the son unless he is older and can have a more interesting character line to add to the movie. Why take away what made the other two movies successful? If it's not broke then WHY try to fix it. Just make the movie better with the same character....even bring back the original mummy returning from the fire. It's a movie.. you can bring any character back by some invention of them not having been really killed off. Show how they got out of their death trap. Imagination. BIG mistake by trying to change the characters. Especially when they all are probably available and made you a chunk of money before. Wise up...smell the coffee.

I think it's just really annoying that when directors decide to add another sequel to a series it's very disappointing to change characters and/or actors. This is why sequels fail. Directors need to understand that for a movie to be successful it isn't the special affects or just the fighting. It's the actors who play the characters that are important. We all know what to expect of what will happen in the movie. Fans are close to their characters/actors who play them. If they want to spend huge amounts of money for allt he special effects and amazing tutors who teach actors all those fights and stuff. They'll lose money not keeping their actors. They need to learn from "Spiderman" movies.

AW MAN!!! His character is SO super cool! Man! Lol... I didn't even know that his character in the movie had a name "Ardeth Bay." I just thought of him as the "Dark & Spooky Yet Very Helpful When You Think All Hope is Lost" guy :-(
That, and he's HOT!
And why in the HELL are they doing a 3rd "Mummy"?! Well, I guess it's because they didn't reallk "kill" Imhotep... he just sort of went back in with the dead.
What you all SHOULD be talking about is that because Ancksunamun got eated by scarab beetles, SHE is really dead now, and we don't get her back in the movie! Now THAT sucks!

No Oded oh boy. This man leaps off the screen he
is beyond gorgeous and I had hoped they would expand
his role rather than eliminate it. All the people in
this franchise is so good. Thats what made the movie
even though they were doing crazy things you believed
the story line because the actors fit so good with their story characters. My 15 year old daughter and II watch these movies no matter how many times we see
them on television and we also own them. Please made
sure Mr. Beautiful is on board. I remember seeing Oded on some television show and he said he could not believe anyone thought him good looking that all the men in his country looked like him. What country is that again???? my passport is up to date.

What did Oded do for The Mummy?
When all of the drama and chaos are at its peak, the sexy, mysterious, dark and strong, quiet-type hero rides in and saves the day. He acts wiser and unaffected by the unnecessary hoopla and knows what to do..
After bringing order to the situation, he humbly goes on his way asking for no recognition. Just a loyal man doing his part in bringing order to the land.
This dreamy hero, man who desires no fame.. a man who takes action but has ethics.. he is every woman's fantasy. Perhaps he is the sole reason the series has worked so well so far.
I can't imagine who can take on the task of saving the day in the next film.. all of the other charactors did not have the personalities to fulfill the viewers needs.
On personal note, I felt he was the sexiest charactor in the films. I loved his long hair, confident nature and the way you got lost in his dark eyes.
Curiousity will cause me to see Part 3 but I'm sure even if it was a hit, I will mourn the exclusion of Oded. The writers need to realize that fans grow bonds to charactors that play key roles. Removing them means less money at the box office and a loss of faith for any future storyline.

Yes, I'll see the movie, and probably own it eventually. I love the storyline and characters. Leaving out Oded Fehr doesn't seem right. The relationship between O'connel and Bay, made the movies. Plus what about the storyline of O'connel being a "madji" touched on in Mummy 2? Is it just dropped? It just will not be the same!

Don't drop Oded Ferh's character! The movie won't be the same without that character--come on, if you're having a problem working his character into the story line hire another writer!

Thank you Missy Schultz for playing the trivia: "Name the only person who got killed 3 times by Indiana Jones, one in each movie."
Unfortunately you are not correct: Pat Roach (the bald German mechanic in the fight at the plane) actually appears in all three films. He is a former wrestler, best known in UK for playing "bomber" in "Auf Wiedersehen Pet".
In Temple of Doom he gets squashed in the cave, thou Indy tries to save him.
The Mummy is a throwback to the Indy trilogy, and it'd be a shame not to cast Oded Fehr. He is the 'Sallah to Indiana Jones'.
One more trivia: What SNL actor appears in Temple of Doom?
Clue: he's a ghost buster and sings the blues.
(sorry no prices)

I have to agree with every one else. I can't stand when they take out or replace charachters with other actors/actresses. Ardeth Bay is such a great charachter & Oded Fehr is perfect for the part. Besides he's so cute. So is Brenden Frasier. They really make the mummy movies which I happen to love. I own both. Can't resist those action movies in which the guys with machismo rescue the damsel in distress. The funny comments really make the movie too.

Ardeth Bay brought a wonderful, complex dimension and depth to the Mummy movies. Without Bay, M3 would be just another monster movie. Oded, M3 needs you!

I never realized there were so many fans who like Oded Fehr as much as I do. I'll watch anything he acts in, movie or TV. The Mummy 3 without Oded? I don't think so!! And I sort of like Jonathan, not everyone can be brave.
