TMNT Sequel Already Being Planned -- To Include Shredder?

We're jumping between a few different sites today, trying to bring you the coolest news to leak out of WonderCon. Over at FirstShowing.net, they sat down with TMNT director Kevin Munroe who alluded to a possible sequel that, unlike the version hitting theaters on March 23, might actually include the infamous villain Shredder. TMNT fanatics are a little skeptical about the new film, as it takes place after the defeat of The Shredder and includes a new crop of monsters. However, old favorites like April O'Neil and Casey Jones are making an appearance ... so all is definitely not lost. (Heck, the late Mako voices Splinter and Patrick Stewart will voice the evil Max Winters -- even Kevin Smith shows up as a greasy chef. Not bad, eh?)
But what about that sequel? Of course, it all depends on how the first movie does -- and, based on the trailers I've seen, the flick certainly looks a lot better than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Turtles in Time. Munroe did say that a sequel is set up at the end of TMNT with a very "not-so-subtle nod" and, in a perfect world, the next film could bring Shredder back. He says, "Yea, it'd nice, it'd be really cool. As a fan I'd love that. Because we now have these sort of better Shredder stories of how to bring Shredder back. But now if it works out well, and Karai coming to New York, that's a setup for a really good volume in The Turtes in the comics as well, it could work out to a really cool sequel."
Perhaps it's a bit premature to be talking Turtles sequel, but I have a really good feeling about this new film. In my opinion, this CGI look is the best yet; much better than the campy live-action versions and a bit edgier than the cartoon. If you ask any Turtles fan, they wouldn't be completely happy unless we were handed a super dark PG-13 Ninja Turtles flick -- but, you know that's never going to happen. So, we might as well suck it up and welcome whatever Turtles-related coolness is heading our way.

A PG-13 TMNT movie would be perfect to be on par with the comics and true to the TMNT universe. Hell, Mikey might even be able to use his nunchuckus in a PG-13 movie. I wish that stupid movie studios would realize that the turtles have a much wider appeal than they give credit for. Kevin Munroe seems to understand it, but the ones with the money don't.
I doubt there will be a sequel. As much as I would love it, the TMNT revival is nowhere near the early 90s extravaganza, and this movie is about 2 years late on cashing into the new (brilliant, before 4Kids stepped in and messed it up) show. There is no way this film is going to top $100mil, which is what I think I read it will have to do to warrant a sequel.
Also, TMNT 3 was not called "Turtles in Time" - that was the videogame on the SNES.

I don't know who's more excited about this movie... me or my gf's 7yo. She just rolls her eyes when we get talking TMNT, Star Wars and Transformers (another one of those not sure who's more excited, me or him, movies)

I vote for David Carradine as Splinter in the sequel, as well as Ron Perlman for Shredder.
I've been waiting 14 years for a fourth movie, so I hope this is as great as it looks.

The movie made 25 million in 3 days. It's probably headed toward 80 million. It only cost 35 million to make, and it's going to double the 80 at least with overseas sales and, what's more, DVD sales. I bet there's going to be a sequel. It's a cheap movie, relatively, and it's going to make the studio a good chunk of money.

campy? Since when were the live action movies campy? Grant it the third one all out sucked and the 2nd one toned down the violence a little but that first one was as dark as all the comic book enthusiasts could have hoped for. Hell, if Jim Hensen was still alive, live action would have been the only way to go, but with him be gone, well just look at turtles 3 and you'll see CG was the only option. I think it would be nice to include a sequel, you know one that actually had actual villains from the franchise, that'll bring it probably even more money. Though I still don't understand why the game related to the movie doesn't have a multi-player option. You have 4 main characters and you can't co-op, or even battle? That's some ol'bullshit.
