The 'Burger King' Will Have His Own Movie ... Sigh
Filed under: Horror
By now everyone's seen those bizarrely creepy Burger King commercials in which the massive-headed mascot appears in the most weirdly unlikely of places. Apparently this ad campaign has been something special for the BK corporation -- it even spawned a series of Xbox video games that some of my friends call "addictively awful." (I played the one called Sneak King ... for about 3.3 minutes.) But now comes word that the King of Burgers is about to make the leap to the silver screen. Yes, that's right: A feature film centered around a corporate mascot.According to MSN, Burger King already has a studio and a distribution deal in place for Burger King: The Movie* -- and they're threatening to have the movie finished by the end of this year! The head marketing guru for the fast food franchise indicates that the flick will be an "origin story," although I doubt it will be a re-enactment of the character's true origins. Who'd want to watch a movie about a mid-70's marketing meeting, anyway? ("Hey, I know! We're called Burger King, so let's use an actual burger king!") It's a horrible idea to make a Burger King movie, obviously, but at least the company is being honest about it. I distinctly remember a few movies that felt like feature-length McDonald's commercials, only they were advertised as actual films.
* This is not the confirmed title, but I bet it's the one they go with.

It all depends on the writing. The character has potential, and this could be goo. It probably won't, but it could be. I played Sneak King AND the Mini Bike game and found them both to be refreshingly simple and fun, and deliciously addictive. Anyone remember the movie "The Wizard"?? Of course you do, because you loved it. That was basically a 90 minute Super Mario Brothers 3 commercial.

Sneak King was the worst of the three XBox games. The bumper cars and racing game a quite fun with a few friends playing.

With the Burger King movie and the pilot for Geico's Cavemen in development, I wonder what's next. A heartfelt drama starring the Country Crock hands? Will the next generation even be able to tell the difference between product placement and real storytelling? I just wrote a feature about all this bs on UGO, check it out - http://www.ugo.com/ugo/html/article/?id=16896§ionId=7

Burger King have a real chance to make something good and prove everyone wrong. The amount of money spent on advertising pumped into a decent movie budget and you could pull it off.
Oh well I can dream of a world where the best movies are subtle advertisements.

You only played Sneak King? That is by far the worst of the 3. Pocketbike racer is the best, with Bumper King or whatever being almost as good. They're actually some of the funnest games I have for my 360, especially good when playing all high...and hungry.

I was linked here from Digg and just wanted to comment on how badly written your article was.
"By now everyone's seen those bizarrely creepy Burger King commercials in which the massive-headed mascot appears in the most weirdly unlikely of places."
Are you serious? Someone sleep through fifth grade when they taught you how to appropriately use adjectives?

It's ironic, because I dislike BK very much, and don't eat their but every year or two to find out if it's....well ok to eat there there and not get food poisoning /yet/.
But I like the King, and his commercials. I liked the eery nature of the commercials...which surprising represent the dining experience (and the aftermath) quite well.
BTW I never played the games, but to me they looked a bit silly and fun. Anyone expecting something on the level of Halo or Mario Karts are just stupid to begin with.

The important question is when will the Aflac Goose get his movie?
Oh, and I'm not normally interested in flame-posts but...
In reference to post #9: The proper term would be the article was "poorly written", not "badly written". In addition your final sentence does not seem to have the correct tense and the subject is improperly defined, as it would seem to imply that the "someone" was the same person as the "they" who taught.
Seeing as you are a member of the grammar police, I thought you'd like to know.

Little known fact, Burger King has already appeared in a TV show, it was called Excessive Force. I'm glad to see they aren't doing a spin off. The show was canceled after its premiere. Something about Terrorist using mad cow disease being to close to home or something...
Here is a link to the promotional spot

I feel most are failing to grasp the concept here. Burger king and thier freak of a mascot are thinking of making a movie. this has to be the worst idea of all times, and it opens the door for more crap-tastic ideas for even worse movies in the future. Who decided "hey i have an idea lets waste a bunch of money on a loser in a crown with an overly sized head" idiots, that's who! let us all pray to the gods we pray to that this is a horrible rumor and nothing more, and if it is not remember this movie WILL SUCK and has no potentional to be a classic like starwars, road to perdition, the patriot, we were soliders, you know real films with inteligent thought. ones that promote a good meaning not "how can we sell more burgers to make Americans (like me and you) spend money and get fat." Sorry for ranting but it needed to be said (if i misspelled some things it doesn't make my point less valid) and if burger king makes this movie i vow never to eat there again and encourage all of you to ban stupid people (the world has enough idiots- lets produce some smart people)

Hey, about post #10... THANK YOU, dude. Who ever you are, THANK YOU. The (wo)man who wrote post 9 is a total flamebait. I am aware that the fact he's getting any attention at all, good or bad, is probably making him incredibly smug... but come on. That guy is SUCH an @$$. Write your own article then, and post it up here. Let's see how many people flame you. Otherwise, shut your goddamn mouth. As far as I'm concerned, Scott Weinberg did a fine job on this.
Now, as for the ACTUAL topic at hand. THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK SO MUCH. Actually, it's won't suck. it will BLOW. sucking being an immediate assumption, and blowing being a prolongued experience. ... Okay, so I got that little bit from Adam Sessler. I may not have gotten it completely right, but if you really wanted to check I'm sure you could search for the X-Play review of that OTHER unnecessary creepiness, Neopets.
Wow, that had very little to do with the article... Sorry about that.
