Trent Reznor in Talks for 'Year Zero' Movie
Filed under: Horror, Music & Musicals, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
We're lacking all sorts of details, but it seems like Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor is planning to turn his new concept album, Year Zero, into a movie. Maybe even two. The CD doesn't hit the streets until April 19 -- and at this point I don't even know what the "concept" of the album is -- but I've been a big Reznor fan since way back in the Pretty Hate Machine days, and am therefore fairly curious to a) hear the ambitious new CD, and b) see if the guy can actually make a solid movie or two.Reznor recently told Kerrang! Radio that "I'm excited by the prospect of what this has brought to me, we're really looking into things it could be." And by "things" he seems to mean a pair of movies. Apparently all the hoopla's been kick-started by a very elaborate underground marketing campaign for the Year Zero CD, so it looks like this could be a big year or two for Trent Reznor. Maybe he and Marilyn Manson could star in a horror movie written by Clive Barker and directed by Rob Zombie. Now that's a movie I'd be curious to see.

Best case: Rob Zombie
Worst case: Fred Durst
I'd be more enthusiastic if Reznor was behind any of the videos or visuals that made his music so iconic. He should baby step -- delegate and surround himself with lots of experience and talent, or at least trail Zombie on a flick or two as an intern.

I've been a NIN and Trent Reznor fan since the 'Head Like a Hole' days and got to see him in concert this summer. He's completely on top of his game now and he's one of the few artists whose work I will buy as soon as it appears. The marketing for the new work has been intriguing and interesting. It's an ambitious thought that a concept CD can launch a movie and I hope he will be able to pull it off. We haven't seen a good distopian vision pulled off in a while and with the state of the world now is the time. I hope it works.

A generalisation of the concept so far is essentially the end of the free world; A drug to "protect" people while essentially sedating them; Terrorism; Resistance groups; A lone gunman; An other-worldly "presence" in the form of a giant hand coming through the sky; and information being sent back through time to stop all this from becoming. Sound weird enough? Yeah.
Get Mark Romanek behind this and it's got very good potential, based off the "Closer" and "Perfect Drug" videos as well as his own "One Hour Photo".

Wow, sounds pretty cool.
Say, does anyone know where I can actually buy a CD these days?
Seriously. All the Tower Records, and Blockbuster Musics and Wherehouses (sp?) in Los Angeles have closed. I think there might be a single Virgin left in this town, though. Perhaps she'll know where I can buy a CD. HAHAHAHA
Sorry, it still feels like Monday to me.
But seriously, CD purchasing? Where to do it?

YES! Trent, build me a WALL!!!
I have been talking about his with my friends and MY best case senario would be his buddy David Fintcher directing--
Trent's music has always been very cinamatic for me and we have seen he is up for the task ( NBK, Lost Highway AND Quake sndtk).. Taking his art to the next level with a film based on an actual album would be a natural progression.
