Angelina Jolie Is 'The Fox' In Supervillain Comic Movie

As the financial success of 300 has amply demonstrated, comic book adaptations continue to be hot items in Hollywood. According to Variety, the supposedly-about-to-retire Angelina Jolie has jumped on the bandwagon and signed to star in the upcoming adaptation of the graphic novel Wanted from Mark Millar, JG Jones and Paul Mounts. The project has been around for awhile (as mentioned here and here on Cinematical) and James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman are already attached. It's the story of an ordinary young man played by McAvoy who learns that his father is a renowned assassin. When his father is killed, the young man is chosen to follow in his dad's footsteps.
Jolie will (we assume) play 'The Fox,' an assassin who has some similarities to Catwoman and who teaches McAvoy's character the tricks of the trade. The original script was penned by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, and Jolie took the part after rewrites were done by Dean Georgaris to tailor the character specifically for her. Georgaris's credits include The Manchurian Candidate and Paycheck, as well as the previous Jolie vehicle Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Directing will be Timur Bekmambetov, helmer of the Russian vampire films Night Watch and Day Watch, making his Hollywood debut. Wanted begins filming this May in Eastern Europe. There's no telling yet whether Wanted, which is known as an adult-oriented comic, will actually follow the supposed route of Watchmen, and go with an R-rating.

This will end well. Anytime you read them 'tailoring' a part for someone, changing the sex of the protagonist, tweaking the story to fit some so called movie star you end up with oh I don't know - Catwoman? I look at her the same way I look at Sandra Bullock, she was good for that one movie after which they both deemed stars and foisted on us continually. Speed for Bullock, Hackers for Jolie then the great abyss. She's this generations Peter Ustinov - the UN approved movie star.
