Tom Cruise has been alienating a lot of people lately, so what better way to get on their good side than by trying to kill Hitler? Production begins this summer on an untitled World War II thriller, starring Cruise and directed by Bryan Singer. The film will be based on actual events, and is said to be about German generals who hatch a scheme to assassinate Hitler at the height of WWII. Cruise and Paula Wagner (who looks like she's blowing up a building with her mind in her imdb photo), recently took over the re-launched United Artists, and they've got a pretty smart strategy for turning the studio around: Have Cruise star in everything!
This is the second film "The New UA" has announced that Cruise will appear in, the other being Lions for Lambs, in which he stars with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, who will also direct. Wagner says "After reading the script, Tom and I knew immediately that this was a film we had to make. As an added bonus, because of Bryan Singer's involvement and Tom's admiration for him as a filmmaker, as well as the excellence of the script, the project attracted Tom as an actor. I cannot think of a more perfect combination of creative elements for our second production." All that is known about what part Cruise will be playing is that it is a "central role." After Cruise's brogue in Far and Away, here's hoping he's not playing a German. Accents don't seem to be a strong suit of his.
Singer is said to have just enough time to fit this in before beginning production on the sequel to Superman Returns (The Return of Superman Returns?), which may or may not happen anyway. Gotta say, this movie sounds like it could be very cool, and I for one am thrilled to see Singer getting away from superheroes. And great news for you Keyser Soze fans, the thriller will be Singer's reunion with Usual Suspects writer Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote the script with Nathan Alexander.

As someone who has seriously studied the Holocaust, I feel that Tom Cruise in the part of Hitler would be a perfect match. First, he wouldn't need to act(it has always seemed like he's just an over active, over-hyped stuntman) as he runs not only his extended family compound, but also his romantic life like a dictator( hiring Jessica R. to spy on and then to tattle everything Katie did before she could be fully indoctrinated to Tom's belief system). Also Hitler systematically deprived the Jews of their rights, then livelihoods, next their homes and possessions, as well as identities before finally exterminating their lives. Reading of his recent actions toward his wife and his control issues as well as his actions to extinguish any spirit she has left-reminds me strongly of what Hitler and his inner circle did to the Jewry of Europe. As I stated before, Hitler would be the only appropriate role for the likes of one such as Tom Cruise.

As Paula Wagner is also Jewish, this makes sense. With Germany putting a gag order on John Travolta to forbid him from mentioning his religion on TV, and the anti-Scientology ad's that the German's ran in the mid 90s, bombing of Scientology churches and murdering our leaders there, the forced identification of Scientologists (just like having to wear the star of David) the mass expulsion of Scientologist's children from schools, and firings from their jobs that Germany has to its most recent record, I'm not surprised that Cruise and Wagner have persecution for their religious beliefs in common.

The guy who attempted to assassinate Hitler, Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, may have once looked sort of like Cruise (see his wiki page), but by the time of the attempt, had been mained in war and had lost a hand, fingers on the other, and an eye. It was all that deformity that led Hitler and the generals to trust him so much in the first place. Let's hope they don't abandon this idea. One, because it's pretty neat that a disabled guy almost led a coup against the moth ruthless dictator of the past century. And second, seeing Tom Cruise that deformed would be hilarious.

I totally agree with the character matching of Cruise with Hitler. Both aspired to the Catholic priesthood at one time. Both have control freak tendencies. Also, there is a some Gibson humor here,Hutton-The Holocaust Revisionist was channeled up by Dragonfly, not his son Mel. Also,please check an English grammar text for correct apostrophe usage-"ad's", "German's". Thank you.

Ok, so Hitler, Tom Cruise, and Superman are having drinks with Mel Gibson. Tom Cruise says "So in this new movie, should I play Hitler or the guy who tries to kill Hitler?" Superman says, "You should play the guy fighting evil forces." Hitler says, "You should play me. You're better looking than me." Tom Cruise says, "Well, I would rather play the hero." To which an inebriated Mel Gibson says, "Then we're all in agreement here, aren't we?"
