Kirsten Dunst: I Sing and Dance in 'Spider-Man 3'

In case the latest trailer hasn't spoiled enough of Spider-Man 3 for you, Kirsten Dunst supplied SCI FI Wire with some information on what her character is up to as the movie begins. Mary Jane is a successful actress on Broadway, where she sings and dances. And though she didn't specify, I'm guessing that Dunst did her own singing and dancing for the part. The character also apparently wears a necktie throughout most of the movie, though the reason for this is unclear. While Dunst didn't give SCI FI Wire any real plot points, she mentioned that we will get to watch her character deteriorate and get beat down (we can assume she means mentally, not physically). If you dislike her portrayal of MJ as much as I do, this may be something for you to look forward to. Personally, I can't really look forward to anything relating to Dunst's appearance in the new Spidey movie. But as with any movie she's in that I like (Small Soldiers, Dick, Marie Antoinette, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and many others), I will tolerate her. I just hope that her singing and dancing is a little better than her acting. Maybe if she's talented enough, she can provide her own singing voice for her upcoming role as Blondie front-runner Debbie Harry. Speaking of which, supposedly the casting of Dunst as Harry has upset a lot of Blondie fans, who have been posting complaints on message boards all over the web. I guess I'm not the only one who dislikes Dunst's acting. Fortunately for Dunst, she has an easy reply for all the disappointed: Debbie Harry handpicked her for the part.

my personal opinion of Dunst is to just wish Scarlett Johansson played every role Dunst has ever done instead...

I thought she sang in The Cat's Meow, Nathaniel, but I've blacked out that movie, so I don't remember her vocals.

I love Dunst... She's not a horrible actress, and I thought she was very good in Bring it On (which for all it's cheese, was funny and charming).

I like Kirsten Dunst either (there's something annoying about her), but even I think you're being hard on her. Scarlett Johannson looks more like Debbie Harry in that pseudo-Marilyn Monroe way, but she'd have to lose her her famous curves for the part. Besides, she's no better an actress than Kirsten Dunst.
Now that I think about it, if Scarlett Johannson became heroin-thin like Debbie Harry was in her heyday, she could get an Oscar for making such a sacrifice.
