Rob Zombie's 'Halloween' -- First Trailer
Filed under: Horror, Trailer Trash, The Weinstein Co., Remakes and Sequels
After months of endless cast announcements, MySpace babblings, and random bits of thorough self-promotion, Rob Zombie has finally unleashed a brand spankin' new trailer for his Halloween remake. Despite earlier protestations from the filmmaker, after viewing the trailer I now feel more than confident calling this flick a true-blue remake and not any sort of "reboot" or "reimagining." Anyone who's seen John Carpenter's Halloween more than two or three times will recognize practically every scene in this trailer.I'm not saying it necessarily means the movie's gonna stink, but I'm guessing this flick will be a lot like Gus Van Sant's version of Psycho -- only with a lot more gore because Rob Zombie is really so extreme. Still, I do love anything with Malcom McDowell, plus I do remember being all snide and snippy about Dawn of the Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre -- and I soundly apologized after enjoying the heck out of those two remakes. (Note that I said "two," because I can think of "two dozen" other horror remakes that could suck lead out of a pencil.) So that's me: Skeptical yet still interested -- but I can't get past the fact that a) someone would actually want to remake Carpenter's classic in the first place and b) despite the fact that I'm the biggest horror geek I know, I really don't like either of Rob Zombie's movies.
Rob Zombie's Halloween hits the screens on August 31, which doesn't make much sense until you realize it'll probably hit DVD shelves right before ... you guessed it ... October 31. (Seems logical to me, although two months is a pretty slim window.) Just watched the trailer a second time. Still seems kinda recycled and generic if you ask me. But obviously I'll be there on opening night seriously hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Sadly, it looks like he's going the route of the Texas Chainsaw remake, which, while it's a ticket seller, sucked pretty badly. I'm really really hoping I'm not disappointed by this flick, but I know I will be, (hopefully) because of how much I've hyped it up for myself.

"An EXTREME vision of terror..." Oh No...
Will this one maybe explain WHY a supposedly normal human being can survive: gunshots, falls from high places, severe burns, and the various other ailments which have killed Micheal Meyers over the years...or are we still just chalking that up to "the mystique of horror movies" cause theres nothing mystical about it...it's just shitty plot holes.

I am surprised anyone would really dare remake Halloween. It is truly a classic. However, any chance to see Michael again. I haven't been a big fan of Rob's films, it's not that I didn't like them, just that there was nothing that really made them stand out. Just kinda grungy and that's it.
My purpose for this comment is to respond to Zach's post. I read it twice and I thought, "Has this guy even seen Halloween?" How can you ask a question like, "WHY a supposedly normal human being can survive: gunshots, falls from high places, severe burns, and the various other ailments which have killed Michael Meyers over the years..."
I will try to explain this in simple terms. Michael Meyers might have been human? But, at some point he became something else. The epitome of rage? Pure evil? There's a line in Halloween that his Dr. mutters, it's something like, "I was his doctor for 15 years. I spent the first 7 years trying to reach him and the last 8 trying to keep him locked up because I realized that there was nothing about him that was even remotely human!" I don't know what part of remote was so hard to comprehend. But as for me I thought when I heard that, "We're not dealing with a pissed off dude. This is gonna be a whole kinda something else." And that is exactly what Michael is. If you can't make that leap you better stick with non-fiction types of movies because the whole point of a "fictional" story is that it isn't real! It's an adventure or journey you either buy in to or you don't.

I agree. Michael Meyers was a "Shape", not an ordinary man. Consumed by pychotic rage and evil, nothing could stop him except cutting off his head, which they did in H20, but say they didn't in Resurrection? Anyway, I like the mystery behind Michael and the fact that he won't die. Hands down one of the best horror classics ever. The music is still scary as of today! What really makes Halloween work (and I think this is why the remake will not be so good) is that Halloween is really simple. It's not bloody! It's not gory! It's not complicated (I'm talking about the first one only) It's simply scary because it's leaves a lot to the imagination. Good horror movies are ones that scare you with imagination, not digust you with blood and guts. Has anyone heard of Bleeding Rose? That's a new movie that's similar in style. It doesn't depend on blood and guts to scare you, but instead plays with your everyday fears. Very interesting like the ordinary Halloween. I pray Mr. Rob Zombie don't fell Halloween with blood and guts like his other works. In any case, I'll see.

I was really excited when I first found out that Rob Zombie was the one to remake Halloween. I thought if anyone could pull it off, it would be him, being a old school horror buff and all.
After he answered questions about the movie, he stated he was going to keep the mask classic. That is what has been missing! But then I see the trailer, and it looks like another attempt gone bad. The mask is definately not classic! Why can't anyone get an original William Shatner mask? I myself can find one on the internet, so I know it's possible. Also, the guy who is playing Michael is like 6'10. I thought Rob Zombie was going to make him more human, like the original. Instead we get another giant wearing a bad Michael Myers mask. Hopefully, the original score is used. I'm not only talking of the opening music, but the rest of the music. Have you ever watched Halloween, and covered your ears? Not as scary. The music gives you the eerie vibe of the original. I know John Carpenter told him to make it his own, but come on.

i think this will suck, first the shot of young michael smiling when he was a kid,the original started that MM was evil incarnated not really human but a dark force being inside him..no emotion,no sence of right or wrong, now they have him being normal UNTIL his mother boyfriend keeps picking on him and calling him a queer,if that was the case would see the entire city of SAN FRANSICO turning out killers ;-)_
