First Pic of Iron Man Hits Net!

We've been waiting for months to see what director Jon Favreau had up his sleeve regarding the new live-action look of Iron Man. Finally, while set pictures have been leaking online left and right, the first crystal clear image of the Iron Man suit (created by Stan Winston) has been revealed to IGN. Now, I'm far from a huge Iron Man fan, so I can't really say whether this suit is exactly what the fans would have wanted. But, it does look pretty cool -- all Iron and stuff. Granted, I'm not sure how in the world one is supposed to move in that suit ... but that's what special effects are for, right?
With production currently in full swing, Iron Man stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (aka Iron Man), a wealthy industrialist who's forced to create an indestructible suit of armor in order to keep him alive following a life-threatening accident. From there, he uses the suit to fight crime (as well as land cute girls like Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts). Also starring in the pic are a bald Jeff Bridges (as Obadiah Stane) and Terrence Howard (as that pimp, Jim Rhodes). Iron Man will kick off next summer's slate of blockbusters, when Paramount releases it on May 2, 2008. So, Iron Man fanatics, what do you think about the suit? Is it too clunky? Right on target? You be the judge.

Well, it does look pretty clunky. I though Iron Man was supposed to be mobile. I don't see it as mobile. It's mobile like Michael Keaton's Batman is mobile. You can't turn the head. You can't look up... me, if I was any kind of crime fighter, I'd want to be able to find out who was shooting at me.

ok people time for a lesson. this is suit number one built while tony stark is being held captive forced to build weapons for soome arabs. (vietnamese in the comics). as time progresses in the movies the armor will get sleeker and more sophisticated as it did in the comics.
as a fan of iron man this is simply awesome. it looks exactly liek the first armor should look. i can't wait.

Yo Erik Davis thats the origin iron man suit which is only going to be in the movie for a few minutes or so ( least I hope). Stark gets captured, gets a heart problem so he has to find a way to stay alive and break out of the camp. This is his first creation of the iron man suit. We should expect to see the classic red and gold pretty soon.

Who is the dumbass? I would think it's you for not researching an article before you post it. Ever heard of Wikipedia? You could have gotten all of the information you needed in five minutes.
I would expect the more juvenile posters to have a 'thanks dumbass' attitude when someone makes a newbie mistake, but not from one of Cinematical's editors.
Shame on you.
(And if comments can get Imus suspended, well I guess you should get sent home for the afternoon without pay.)

I personally think that this is a really cool version of the Mark I suit that tony first made. I can't wait to see what the Mark II and up suits look like. My understanding is the portion of the film being shot is all the stuff in the camp where Tony is held captive, so the Mark II + suits probably haven't even gotten out of Winston's shop, let alone had anything shot.
If these first few images to come out of shoot are any indicator, the movie will look great. I hope that they have a story that matches the visuals. I've been an Iron man fan since the 80s, so I am hoping that this will live up to our (the fan's) expectations.

Isn't Gwyneth Paltrow supposed to come to the Newport Beach Film Festival this year? If she did that would be awesome! I love that film festival - so many good independent films displayed I can't watch them all but I do hope that one day my film gets showcased at this exclusive festival!

The "dumbass" comments made my day... The (proto-)suit looks cool, as does the entire movie so far; Lets hope they dont fuck it up. RD Jr should be an awesome Tony Stark (catch his Oscar worthy role in "Zodiac.")
