Will Ferrell and Adam McKay Star in Disturbing Short Film, 'The Landlord'
I'm not sure when the short film officially arrived online, thus I might be a little behind the ball here -- but this freaking thing had me hysterical this morning. It's the first I've seen of it, and if you're looking for something to raise your spirits on a crummy Monday, then this short should do the trick. The Landlord stars Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and, um, Pearl (not sure what the actress' name is -- perhaps one of you can help me out there), and seeing as Ferrell is sporting his Semi-Pro afro, I tend to think it was filmed fairly recently. Why these guys shot this is beyond me, however I'm certainly glad they did.
In the film, Ferrell plays a guy that's fallen on hard times (blood tests have recently proven that his father is gay), and he's about to get a visit from his nasty, alcohol-abusing landlord. McKay doesn't have too big of a role; he's just there as the friend in the corner who you bounce jokes off of early on. The real comedy here comes with the exchange between Ferrell and his landlord, Pearl. Seeing as I don't want to ruin the big gag here, I'll leave it at that. Here's where you might ask, "But Erik, why is it disturbing?" Well, you'll have to check it out for yourself to see what I mean. Since the country is in Imus recovery mode (and Ferrell currently has a film in theaters), I'm not so sure this is the wisest piece of material to start spreading around. Then again, it's only comedy ... and Ferrell is known for taking it right to the edge, convincing us that his jokes are funny, and not in poor taste. You be the judge -- did Ferrell and McKay cross a line with this? Or is it a harmless comedic short?

This 4 minute short is funnier than the entirety of Talladega Nights and the funniest thing he's been involved in since Anchorman.
I don't really see any connection between this and Imusgate. This isn't crossing any lines unless of course you have no sense of humor. If Will Ferrell having a drunk 2-year-old girl as a landlord doesn't make you laugh because you don't like Will Ferrell, that's one thing. If this doesn't make you laugh because you find inebriated toddlers offensive, why even own a computer to watch this on?

What's wrong with the material? Beyond being extremely funny? WTF does Imus have to do with the real star of the short? Is she also a basketball player?

This short doesn't even come close to crossing the line. Not unless they made the kid method-act the part and down a few shots of bourbon first. Otherwise, it's all in good fun. I'm more disturbed by the ultra-PC subculture that could find offense in this short. It's funny. End of story.

Pearl is McKay's daughter. They made this video for their new website, funnyordie.com.
My mom sent me this video, and I liked it so much I googled it :) Pearl's awesome! I want my money bitch! :)

Erick: I think your site should be called cinematard! To say that "The Landlord" is disturbing is just so ridiculous. It is okay to laugh out loud at things that are meant to be funny. Everyone needs to stop taking themselves so seriously and lighten-up. It is this whole "don't wanna step on any toes "p.c." bullshit that takes the fun out of every damn thing anymore. Suck on that Trebeck!

I thought that video was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. The problem with people like you is you don't know funny and that is why Will Ferrell makes comedies that top the chart and you... well don't. Go back to Satan worship and making sure no one spikes the punch. Your the reason I carry my own flask to the party!
oh yea and what does "Imus recovery mode" mean? I guess you missed the memo that common sense says that when a old guy that wears a cowboy hat talks expect him to slip up and get a little racist now and then.

I loved this. Speaking personally and professionally as a former property manager - this is how it feels to collect rent some days. I quit that job because I became an alcoholic. LOL.

I too thought this was terribly funny, but as a parent I also question the wisdom of parents coaching their toddler to use language that the rest of us are sheilding our children from. It does present a dilemma, and you are right to question whether or not it crosses a line.

The only people with their panties in a wad are the ones instantly (not to mention vindictively) running to the defense line of beloved Will Farrell. Erik Davis here wasn't trying to insult Farrell, but start an intelligent discussion regarding current issues and the movie itself. If you people actually took the time to read his entire blurb, you would see he actually enjoyed the film. Of course, what can we expect from people who insult others for asking a simple, harmless question?
Sorry to have made you bunch squeeze your Will Farrell stress-balls a little more tightly.

If someone finds this video offensive, they are thinking too hard. Why can't things just be... why does there always have to be some hidden agenda or someone that gets offended over nothing. Get a freaking life if this is offensive!
