The 20 Biggest Movies This Summer
Filed under: Johnny Depp, Harry Potter, Remakes and Sequels, Hold the 'Fone, Summer Movies
Is it summer yet? Is it finally time to put the winter coats and Wild Hogs behind us? Not that spring's been all bad: There were even a couple marquee movies, though 300 and Grindhouse met surprisingly disparate fates at the box office.
But there's nothing quite like the anticipation leading up to a summer movie season. All we can say is, you may want to do a few extra laps around the block because there will be a lot of popcorn to consume. It's not just Pirates, Potter and Peter Parker: Eleven major sequels will hit theaters this summer, and that doesn't even count the movie-turned-play-turned movie again Hairspray. Besides Shrek the Third, two other tentpole animated films (Ratatouille and Surf's Up) will be looking score major moolah from the family crowd, while The Simpsons marks what could be the most anticipated TV series-turned-movie ever. And then there's Transformers, which looks better and better with each new peek. Is it summer yet?
Moviefone counts down 20 big movies to get excited about this summer. Tell us what you're dying to see... or, if you so choose, what you'd rather die than see.

#1 disparate means different, opposite. The writer was saying that 300 and Grindhouse had different results to each other, at the box office. Also I think unexpected, critics didn't like 300 but liked Grindhouse but they did opposite numbers at the box office.

If anybody is "dying" to see this stuff, they would, indeed, be better off dead.

I was very disappointed with X-Men 3 Last Stand.
There's still story to be told.
All the Director and Producer were interested in was making their almighty dollar. Then get out quick.
I think what movie goers are especially interested in. Is the big clash X-men and Apokalypse. But we'll most likely never see it now.
That would've been an epic confrontion.
It would take the likes of Peter Jackson and John Landis to bring that to the big screen.
Mostly likely as a Trilogy. They'd have their hands full just figuring out how to undo the mess that was left behind by X-Men3 Last Stand.
They could always just deny that X-men 3 was ever made. And go on a new leaf, start their new X-men saga.

I was actually a little disappointed with SUPERMAN RETURNS. It was still basically just a rehashing of the first Superman. Same old Lex Luthor still interested in real estate.
If it was me. I think what us movie goers are really clamouring to see will the epic confrontation between Superman and DARSEID! That would be HUGE. THat would truly be epic. They'd probaly have to do it has a trilogy.
Then would come prequels and spinoffs just to deal with all the subordinate characters like Orion, The New Gods, and The Forever People.

I'm waiting on 28 weeks later. It looks to be non-stop zombie-killing action. If it does well, look forward to a third installment.

Looks like the same ol'crap to me: of the 20 movies touted here, eleven are sequels or remakes...John Travolta in drag, Robin Williams as a priest, Morgan Freeman as God (again!)...most of this crap goes straight to dvd after one month of release.

Spiderman 3 will be the best summer movie this year. Now this sequel is going to be epic.I hope it blows pirates 3 and harry potter out of the water but that probably wont happen because every kid and there parents are gonna want to see them and pirates will make another billion dollars at the box office just like dead mans chest did last summer.

My wife and I look forward to seeing the upcoming Pirates #3 as we've loved both the first and the second. Johnny Depp is the best. I have never been one to buy DVD's to watch over and over, but we do have both 1 and 2 and can't wait to own #3.

I don't see how anyone can be looking forward to Pirates 3 when the second movie was so incredibly horribly BAD. Perhaps I'll watch it, just as idle curiosity to see HOW horribly bad the third one ends up, but seeing as how they recycled all the same old jokes from the first movie, they're only making bad remakes of their own quite good original picture. It's sad, really.
