The Rules of Movie Etiquette
FilmCrunch has posted a video guide to movie etiquette that couldn't have come at a more perfect time. With bad behavior in the movies running rampant, we're almost at the point where people need to go through training in order to get a movie-watching license. Here in Los Angeles, we have to battle talkers during the movies (psst, what did he say?), incessant cell-phone checkers (did I get a new text? did I get a new email? did he/she call?), candy package unwrapping that has more crackles than a bonfire, and seat-kickers. It's no wonder that people are starting to prefer staying at home for the movie experience.
However, it's high time that we who love the theaters take them back, by storm! In my best theatrical voice, I am calling to you to inform your friends and enemies about movie theater etiquette. Pass this video around and say, this far no further! To paraphrase the immortal words of Leonidas -- "THIS IS THE CINEPLEX!" Watch the video after the jump, and tell us what sort of behavior bugs you in the movie theater.

Guys, you grabbed the wrong embed code for the movie file ;) This is the correct embed code:
embed src="http://www.gearlive.com/video/newflvplayer.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" controller="true" flashvars="movieurl=http://blip.tv/file/get/Filmcrunch-FilmCrunch040TheRulesOfMovieTheaterEtiquette860.flv&basedomain=movies.gearlive.com" height="264" width="428"
Obviously though, add in the < and > brackets around that.

It's over for cinemas and we can blame today's younger generation who have the attention span of a dung beetle. They cannot sit still for two hours and be silent. Their average IQ is lower than at any time in human history. With home cinema and HD DVDs, why would you want to go out to a cinema and be subjected to somethining akin to A Clockwork Orange experiment?

My biggest pet peeve lately goes beyond the cell phone ringing...not turning your cell phone off is bad enough, but twice in the past few months people have answered their phones. And carried on a conversation in the theatre while the movie is playing. Who does that? Seriously.
Last week the guy behind me wasn't content eating the popcorn of the top of his popcorn bucket--no, he had to dig his hand in and search around for just.the.right.piece, if the amount of rustling between bites could be taken as any indication.
ITA with this--I love going to movies in theatres largely because I tend to get distracted at home, what with the internet and looking out the window and I don't know what all. But it's getting so the theatre is just as distracting. Especially multiplexes. Indie theatres tend to be better. But even so. If people behaved in live theatres the way they do in movie theatres, the ushers would throw them out.

your wrong @ marty...the older generation are just as bad nowadays. I know plenty of younger people with no problem watching a movie properly.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon movie Film for theaters has covered the issue quite nicely with the first three minutes of their movie. it was by far the most enjoyable part of the movie.

Honestly, these issues apply to all public places! Unfortunately, there are rude, ignorant people in this world. They don't care about other people or property.
What is so hard about wiping up the water you splashed around the sink while washing up in the bathroom? Apparently, it is a monumental task, as is peeing into the toilet and not on the seat or floor.
And teenage girls with camara phones! Sweetheart, we don't care that you and your BFF are at the movie! You don't need to take a picture to mark the occasion! Flash blindness, puh-leez!
And if you are so tired that you can't sit with your feet on the floor, go home and take a nap! And when I turn around and break your foot after the 20th time it has connected with my seat back, don't take it personally.
