Has The Hulk Gone Gray?

While speaking at the Spider-Man 3 press junket in Los Angeles, producer Avi Arad let spill some interesting new details about the upcoming Incredible Hulk flick that just cast Edward Norton in the lead role. When asked whether they were going to incorporate any of the CGI or effects used in Ang Lee's Hulk, Arad replied: "No. It's a new Hulk, new direction, new size, new color, new attitude. Anything that was done before is not in this movie. It's a very different kind of Hulk. It's more of a love story; it's more of a heroic Hulk. It's a kind of Hulk we loved in the show, so it's kind of more influenced by the show than anything else. It's very human, very touching, and huge action. Louis Leterrier has a unique filming style that will be great here and it's going to be spectacular."
Wait, did he say the Hulk will have a new color? You mean, he won't be green? Personally, I think a red, white and blue Hulk would just be spectacular, but fans are already suggesting that Arad and his team might be reaching back for a more classic gray Hulk, like the one used in the comic book character's first ever appearance on the page. In The Incredible Hulk #1, the Hulk was gray, not green. At the time, Stan Lee went with gray so that the color wouldn't suggest any particular ethnic group. However, gray wasn't especially eye-catching, and so with issue #2 and on, the Hulk became green. When asked whether the Hulk would indeed be gray, Arad replied, "We'll see, I don't know." But here's what I don't get: If Arad said the movie will draw most of its inspiration from the TV show, then one would assume the Hulk would be green, not gray -- and yet, in the very same description, he says the Hulk will have a new color. Yeah, so I'm confused. What do you think: green, gray or rainbow? The Incredible Hulk is set to arrive in theaters next summer.

By "new color" he could've just meant the new Hulk will have a new character or "flavor", if you will. Personally, I would rather have the Hulk stay green. Wasn't it in the later comics where the gray hulk was suppose to represent the "bad" Hulk?

I believe that gray and green represented different 'modes' of Hulk - green Hulk is "savage", mindless, whereas gray Hulk has more human intellect, more Bruce Banner in him. The gray Hulk in the first issue, however, is not the same Hulk who appears in later issues, having more in common with the Savage Hulk (green).

Uh, couldn't he just have meant a different shade of green? The Ang Lee Hulk was decidedly more crayon-ish than the TV Hulk.

I remember seeing a cartoon on Sunday morning TV where there were two hulks... a mindless green hulk and a wisecracking pink or gray-ish hulk. I never figured that out... but maybe this is what they mean?
All I know is... the only thing that kept me awake during the Ang Lee hulk movie was the guy behind me snoring so loudly...
I hope this one is better.

The new Hulk shouldn't be entirely CG. That kind of took me away from Ang Lee's version. They should just enhance Edward Norton's features.

I never realized there was a grey Hulk. But my husband is a big fan. It'll be interesting.

Gray Hulk was also called Mr. Fixit, and for a time worked as a bouncer/muscle in Vegas (no kidding). That'd make for an interesting movie huh?

He probably just means a different shade of green. I hope they cut back on the CG of it and could make the Hulk more like Hellboy, though it may not work because of how bulky the Hulk is.

in the animated show, which kicked all type of ass, the green "savage" hulk ran everything. later in the show while trying to find a cure banner created the gray hulk, the grey hulk could talk and be in control of himself at all times he was cool like a cucumber. the green hulk and gray huld would duke it out in banners head, kinda like a split personality, which ever won would pop out and kick all type of ass.
oh man those where good toons, not like the crap thats out today!
