New Details On LonelyGirl15's Debut Movie, 'Perfect Sport'
The good news for Jessica Rose is that sitting in front of a camera pretending to be a bored 15 year-old girl can not only make you a celebrity, but also help you land movie roles. The bad news, however, for this aspiring actress, is that she will forever be known as Jessica "LonelyGirl15" Rose. And even if she manages to win an Academy Award one day, the voice-over following her up the aisle will most definitely begin this way: "Jessica Rose's first claim to fame was as the internet celebrity LonelyGirl15 ... " But you know what, my fat ass will still be on the couch, blogging the entire ceremony in my underwear. And so it goes. For those of you are who are fans of Rose (and/or LonelyGirl15), you'll be happy to know that she's about to star in a new film called Perfect Sport; basically, it's like every other uplifting college sports movie, except this one is about wrestling.
JoBlo managed to get hold of a plot synopsis-type thing (because you know those boys secretly obsess over LonelyGirl15 when they're not stalking Salma Hayek -- wink, wink), and, according to them, the film will revolve around an "aspiring athlete (Anthony O'Brien) who after establishing himself at school as a promising collegiate wrestler, finds himself being overshadowed by his younger sister (Rose) after she joins the team." Well duh, your sister is LonelyGirl15! And she's wrestling ... guys? Is that legal? Anyway, at some point the poor boy meets an Olympic wrestler (Gary Hudson) dying from cancer, and then they mention something about a "dark secret." Like Jessica Rose's career path, this one seems a little fuzzy, unpredictable and not all that interesting. Apparently, it's scheduled to hit theaters this fall -- just in time for Oscar season. Could it be ...? Nah.

Scott, fixed spelling error. Thanks. Was watching Simpsons while writing this; Selma slipped in. :)
Stan, I've read your comments, I've read your email and all I can really say is that you need to lighten up a little bit. Our goal here is to provide a little something for everyone. If mainstream is not what you like, there's the work-in-progress Cinematical Indie. If you'd rather not read about Jessica Simpson possibly starring in a new film, then skip the post. Fact is, while you might not want to read about lonelygirl15, there could be 150 people who would.
I've been with Cinematical for just about two years now. Has the site changed? Yes. Some of our older readers loved the site when it was smaller, snarkier and provided more original content. However, all that stuff is still here -- we're just mixing it up a bit. Talk to me about tabloid stuff when I start writing about Brad Pitt's new hair color.
In my opinion (and this is the reason I'm still writing here, and still believe in the site), we provide readers with some of the most diverse content I've seen on the web. If it's happening in Hollywood, we're writing about it. End of story. We write a lot because, each day, a lot happens. And, each day, we're constantly looking for ways to improve, some of which you'll be seeing in the near future. Our writers are professional, knowledgeable and a blast to work with.
Is it easy working 12-hour days on a website for little money when all you get are smug comments about random spelling errors, while regular readers constantly tell you that what you're writing isn't good enough for them? What do you think? If we ain't your cup of tea man, then stop reading. I'm proud of the work we do, and I'm proud of each and every single writer on this site. We work hard, we love movies and we love what we do ... no matter how many people complain and tell us we're doing it wrong.
We're in a transitional period with new friends at AOL Moviefone and a new editor-in-chief. Cinematical will always be a work-in-progress (as is life), but I promise you we're here for everyone, including Stan. But not for Stan.

Erik-
The quality of writing on Cinematical is not the issue, that's the whole reason I come here. I am not the one hammering you on spelling- again that's not what I care about. The quality of the writers here is already a cut way above most of the blogs out there.
It's not to say there have been that many iffy entries. Just lately, they’ve been on the rise and a trend I hope you’ll reconsider. If this comes from a desire to broaden your audience, I hope you'll realize that becoming a lowest common denominator blog and/or chasing the audiences of sites like Joblo and AICN is precisely the road to oblivion, corporate masters be damned... Those sites are junk but they've *always* been junk, you guys are much, much more.
I find it especially prescient that only a few weeks ago this blog was lamenting the shuttering of Premiere magazine as a sign of the decline of movie journalism. That type of coverage is exactly what I come to Cinematical for. So when it's suddenly mucked up with junk stories and then retractions of those stories, can you blame a fan for calling foul?
I’m not expecting highbrow here. I will keep coming to the site because most of the content remains classy and interesting. Just think about it next time you get a questionable story that *has* to run immediately. Don't get caught with egg on your face. It's not becoming and surely the kinds of comments these stories draw can't be completely lost on you. Sorry if hearing that hurts, but it's what being an editor is all about. If it’s not a labor of love you can feel good about, what’s the point?

I think you all do a good job mixing things up between indie news, mainstream and internet.
I can't say i'll be standing in line for when this thing hits the theater/dvd release. BTW, there was a girl in my high school class (1997) who was on the wrestling team. Had a decent record as far as I remember...

I worked on "Perfect Sport", and the film synopsis from "JoBlo" is about 1/4th correct.
the film takes place in high school, not college.
Jessica Rose's character (Tina) never wrestles her brother, as that would mean they would both be in the same weight class, and Anthony O'Brien is at least 50 more pounds than Jessica Rose. (wouldnt really work)
Also, Joe, Played by Gary Hudson, is not an olympic wrestler, nor does he ever claim to be.
I generally don't like high school movies, and was not all that excited to work on this one when i first signed on, but as i saw it shot(at least the parts that i did, my job required me elsewhere a lot of the time they were shooting) It actually looked like pretty good. definitely not the average teen film, thank god =)
It's sad to see the film so misconstrued though..
Sometimes I wonder where people get such horrible misinformation on films =(

Distinguished blogger, im sorry but you were misinformed on the details about this film OR you know the REAL SYNOPSIS and CHOSE to twist the facts and manipulate them to your advantage so you can get a headline and a couple of extra readers. Jessica Rose is a TALENTED actress, I had the pleasure of going to NYFA with her and saw her work. I hope your not upset because she really is someone talented and is NOT JUST in Perfect Sport but has parts in MANY upcoming TV shows and Films, and your, well, in your parents basement posting blogs working the fry grill at McDonalds still trying to get laid. Either way, she will be on the red carpet and you will laying in your basements shag carpet playing with your Star Wars figures. Either way, good luck with your blog!

Personally, I hate the whole Lonelygirl15 thing. But this movie isn't "Lonelygirl15: The Movie" and so I don't think people should judge it based on that. I don't know if she's a good actress or not, but she COULD be and I'm prepared to give her a chance.
Will I see the movie? I don't know. I'll probably read a review first. But I don't think it's right to judge the movie before it's even out over a leaked synopsis which, according to the poster above, isn't even correct.
