The Jessica Simpson Saga: Day 3
Filed under: Horror, Casting, Deals, Celebrities and Controversy
Okay, for those of you just tuning in, here's the recap: On Saturday, we hesitantly wrote up an item from RushPR saying that Jessica Simpson was in advanced talks to star in the low-budget horror film The Kentucky Fried Horror Show. The source seemed iffy, but we weren't the only site to post the item and we posted it with the appropriate caveats. Cut to yesterday, when, on the same day we learned that the Joker photo whirling around the Web was a total fake and the 'grey Hulk' story was an equally bogus one that we had jumped on, we also heard from Jessica Simpson's publicist that the Kentucky Fried story was absolutely false. With all these stories going belly-up at once, I decided to write up a general screed about phony-rumor stories, which you can read here. Okay, now you're all caught up. This morning, I was contacted by C.L. Gregory, the director of The Kentucky Fried Horror Show, who seemed quite surprised to hear about Jessica's alleged non-participation and is flatly contradicting the publicist's assertion of no talks. To set the record straight, he's also willing to go on record to give details on the talks his production has apparently had with Simpson. There's no sense in paraphrasing the man -- 'll let you hear it straight from the horse's mouth. Here is what Gregory had to say to me about this whole thing:
"So here is EXACTLY where we are at with this. We have had serious contract negotiations with Jessica's people from day one. They were VERY interested in a horror project for Jessica based on my phone discussions with her people when we approached them over a month ago. Script(s) were sent, revisions were made and then at THEIR request they wished to move forward on the project with us making an offer. I've been in development talks with a large Studio to work out the final details for production for this film so its taking us a great deal of time for development. As we told Jessica's people before, we're not shooting until late summer early fall so we have plenty of time. We made an offer last Friday, a very SIGNIFICANT offer for her role in this film and for her publicist to make a comment like that is simply rude and unprofessional ..."

The offer was continuous mention of her name in blogs written by gullible people...

Come now, Stan..
This is a MOVIE-blog and Jessica Simpson is a MOVIE-star! Duh! Just look at her sterling filmography:
Employee of the Month
The Dukes of Hazzard
Didn't you know, if a no-name director calls you personally on the phone, it's officially big news- I'm surprised it didn't have a "BREAKING!" in the title.
... c'mon, Cinematical. This is seriously horse-shit, that you even think this stuff is news. If you're going to keep blogging about this woman/movie, I'm going to keep commenting about how poor your editorial judgement is, even if you don't read this. It's like a hunger strike- reading and commenting on this garbage might be miserable, but I'm going to bear it to make a stand.

I'm going to have to second Alexei on this. Has anyone looked at C.L. Gregory's IMDB page? The guy was an Assistant Director for Wrestlemania last year. His only directorial credit was for a porno!
This movie is going to go straight to the 5.99 DVD display at Walgreens. Please, guys, I'm begging you, enough.

I'm going to have to agree with everyone else here. If this guy actually wanted more than free publicity do you think he would go on the record as insulting a representative of the very person he is going to sign? Seems like a contradictory action to me, but like most of the posters here have said, this guy wants publicity, and the people at cinematical are willing to waste everyones time by giving it to him.

This man is a liar and a pornographer. Jessica would never work with him. I hope she sues him for all his dirty money.
The movie has the stupidest name I've ever heard anyways. Is it supposed to be funny? Is he trying to sell chicken? Is he being rascist?
Barf-ola. I hope this guy rots.

C.L. Gregory is by far one of the slimiest individuals on the web. Many of his supposed "credits" on IMDB are rumored to be fake, as only a few months ago he had a whopping TWO credits on there, both pornos. Users on other sites have complained that he "spams message boards" using multiple screennames, normally starting off with "midnitefilms" and moving on. His website, http://www.midnite-films.com looks ridiculous, and if you need further proof of his intentions, search the forums at Indiana Auditions. http://www.indianaauditions.com/forum
Countless people there state that this guy lies about things all the time, and then follows up with threatening emails when you call him out. Just take a look at his site and see if you think he looks like someone Jessica Simpson would ever deal with.

Fangoria deletes readers account for revealing an inaccurate story.
About a week ago Fangoria posted a story that stated among other things, that Jessica Simpson was in talks to star in a upcoming film "The Kentucky Fried Horror Show." The problem is, Jessica was never in "talks" with these people. When this was pointed out to Fangoria they attacked the"whistle-blower" and "warned" him not to do it again.
