Bruckheimer Says 'Pirates 3' Is The End

Now that Spider-Man 3 has set the tone as far as this summer's box office goes, the entertainment world is patiently awaiting the arrival of Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. Will the third installment put up bigger numbers than Dead Man's Chest; will it beat Spider-Man 3? Or, more importantly, will it provide fans with a satisfying ending to a trilogy that some feel hasn't lived up to the hype? While there have been rumors suggesting Pirates 3 will be cutting it close in terms of finishing all the effects and whatnot in time for the film's May 25 release date, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that they most certainly are in rush mode. In fact, the timeline is so tight, there have been no test screenings for the flick; the only audience to see it in its entirely were a group of director Gore Verbinski's friends. And, of course, they loved it.
Keep in mind, this doesn't necessarily mean the film will be bad; it just means Bruckheimer and friends have no idea how audiences will respond to the pic, which cost $272.6 million to create. Is it a risk? Yes. But when the first two films gross $792.5 million and $1.3 billion respectively, then it's a risk that's definitely worth taking. As with Spider-Man 3, there's been a ton of talk recently regarding whether or not Disney will continue the franchise past At Worlds End. In the past, both Johnny Depp and Bruckheimer have shown interest; not to mention these Pirates are insanely lucrative. Now, however, it appears Bruckheimer is on the fence when it comes to a fourth installment. He says: This is the end. This is the end of the trilogy. Whether there will be another movie depends on whether we can create something new and different, but this is the end."
Fear not fanatics, the man then goes on to leave open the possibility of a spin-off flick: "This is the end, but whether one of the characters or a couple of the characters continue on, it's a possibility. Certainly, in a moment at the end of the film there is a hope that something else might happen." But would a fourth Pirates flick do well without Johnny Depp as Captain Jack? I mean, that's if "new and different" is another way of saying "if we can find someone cool enough to replace Johnny." Here's my question to you: Which franchise do you think has a better chance of surviving without its main star: Spider-Man or Pirates of the Caribbean?

Johnny Deep has created a timeless character in Captain Jack Sparrow, whereas Tobey Maguire, however great he has been as Spiderman, hasn't done anything so indelible that someone better or just as good can't replace him. I would actually like to see them to more Spiderman sequels with brand new people (and a director of the same caliber as Raimi, perhaps someone like Eli Roth?)

If a fourth movie did not include Johnny Depp I would not be interrested in watching. Johnny Depp is THE pirate of the carribean and cannot and should not be replaced.

Like you even need to ask the question, it is rather obvious that SM3 could easily survive, and produce a good future film or two, with almost an entirely new cast (and yes, I actually enjoyed SM3 a whole lot), while Pirates lives and dies based on whether or not Johnny Depp is in the film.

I've been FAR more satisfied with the 'Pirates' franchise than the 'Spider-Man' franchise, despite (or perhaps because of) being a comics geek for over thirty years. So I can easily picture there being further high seas adventures with entirely new cast more easily than I could see the webslinger going forward without Tobey Maguire.
But I'm sure that's just me. *shrug*

How is this even a question? Lets just list the stars of the two movies. Pirates? Clearly the star is Johnny Depp, whose character is what made the first one so memorable (as well as making people see the second one...if I'd known it was going to be that pile of garbage I would've stayed home). Who is the star in Spider-Man? Just as clearly its SPIDERMAN! Not Tobey Maguire, who has done a fine job with the role, but remember that the first one opened to a 110 million dollars because of who the character was before we ever even saw Tobey's take on it. You could plug in a dozen other actors into that red suit and the movies would still make hundreds of millions of dollars. Spidermans success is much more reliant on Sam Raimi than Maguire, so the answer to this question is that Depp is exponentially more important to the future success of that franchise than Tobey Maguire is to Spiderman.

There could never be another Captain Jack Sparrow to compare to Johnny's. Johnny shouldn't do any more Pirates films unless they have a story and script similar to the first one (what happened to Wolpert and Beattie, the other 2 writers from the first film - I think something good left with them). I think POTC 3 will be great.
Spiderman: I like Tobey and Kirsten but, as in Superman & Batman, it won't really matter who takes over since it was a cartoon to begin with and the character has already been defined.

Pirates would definitely take a harder hit if Johnny Depp did not continue with them. I laugh just when he runs, he definitely makes the role. "I got a jar of diirrt, I got a jarr of diiiirrtt" haha. Tobey who?? I think Spiderman would be in a little bit better shape then poor Tobey.

okay first off spider man 3 was a lame excuse for a super hero movie. i have never really liked spiderman personally my self but when i saw the third trailer i thought it would be a good movie and-even though this is very impossible for me atleast or well it seemed so-i even felt that it would be good competition for pirates3. well i was wrong and i think that toby has lost his luster for the part...im not sure if he just lost it in this movie or if it was detiryorating in the secon for i have yet to see it. how ever, although im probably on the bais side seeing as i am a huge pirates fan my self...beyond belief actually it is very scary, i dont believe that pirates will ever be the same with out these three elements: the main cast-johnny orlando and keira(and barbosa of course), the director and producer gore verbinski and jerry bruckheimer and of course the play writes and hans zimmer who wrote the music for the movie. the elements of the first two installments to the trilogy have been fantastic although the second movie was sort of lacking in adventure that was mainly because it was a fill in movie. how ever i do believe from seeing clips and reading spoilers-yes i am that kind of fan and no i wont spoil anything dont worry- and of course the trailers and character interviews i have a feeling that the third instalment will infact give all sequal movies that are coming out this summer a run for their money. and this includes the demolation of the third spidey movie. no offense to all spidey fans but in my personal opinion that movie was not at its best and could have been better. so my main point is spidey can yes live with out toby. but pirates...it just wouldnt be the same.

It's a hard dicision but I think that Pirates of the Carribean will survive better without Johnny then Spiderman will. Personally, I hate the spiderman movies. This is not a surprise because i also dislike The Hulk and Superman. Pirates of the Carribean leaves people wanting more. Since their first 2 were a success, I believe alot of people will die to see the third. The sound effects, music and action just capture you as you get caught up in the moment. No, I am not some weirdo movie critic, I am a 13 year old girl that happens to LOVE Pirates of the Carribean. I will deffinately see it the first day it comes out. Thank you for your time and consideration in reading this comment and replying to it.

If johnny depp leaves Pirates the movies will be worse. He makes those movies with his acting and without him it would be a dul movie. Orlando Bloom is good too but with out Johnny Pirates would be nothing.

Personally, I would NOT go see POTC 4 if Johnny Depp WASNT in it. He makes it funny && interesting and i love him as an actor. [ though i love orlando bloom and keira knightley ]POTC would NOT be the same without him.

In all honesty, I must say that POLC has absolutely won me over. I'm not an avid fan of pirate movies, but Johnny Depp sheds a whole new light on it all for me. I hold Johnny in high regard. I respect him as an actor, but more so as an individual for being selective in the parts he plays and putting 200% of himself into each and every role. He brings any character he does to late. It's so easy for the audience to be taken in be each of the characters he creates. There seems to be a considerable amount of "mystery" to who Johnny Depp really is, and with that said, I believe it is that what makes him the incredible actor he is today. He has a passion for life!

Why would you even ask? Spiderman is....Spiderman. They could still make good movies without Tobey. Jack Sparrow is like the glue that holds everything good about the movies together> The effects the music the cast the crew. Their all great but Pirates of the caribbean woulndt be near as AWESOME without Johnny Depp!(Johnny depp is not just a great actor but hot too!)

Pirates of the Cariibean At Worlds end is going to be the best! There is no way that they could do a forth one without Johnny. He is the only one that could ever play Captain Jack Sparrow. No matter how good of an actor they say they are no one would be able to get into the caracter or have the same witty ways that Johnny has.

There would be absolutely no point of having that story, the least the could do is pull a lion king and go back to when johnny was captain of the black pearl before he lost it to barbosa. Not to mention the fact that hes the heart of those movies

A Pirates movie without Johnny Depp??! Are you joking?! He IS POTC!! If they do make anymore installments of the movie without Johnny, I can asure you that its gonna be a huge flop! Probably wouldn't even hit theaters, just go straight to DVD. As far as Spidey...he's lived WAY before Toby...and will live on way after Toby. To where as Cap'n Jack Sparrow lives and dies with Johnny Depp. Savvy!?
