Cannes Photoblog #1 -- Sun, Sand, Celebration

This was the scene from the Press patio of the Palais du Cinema last night around 10:00, as paparazzi and film-fans loitered out front waiting for My Blueberry Nights to get out -- and just an inkling of the rush and crush that'll be on the Croisiette for the next 11 days.

Across the street from the Palais, huge ads tower over the street -- like this bus-length advertisement for Live Free or Die Hard; notice the more concise (and, to me, superior) title for foreign release, Die Hard 4.0. For more scenes from Cannes, look after the jump. ...

Cinematical's staying in the 'old town' -- this view of crowded cozy cobblestone streets was taken about 100 feet from Cinematical's Cannes flat, and a great example of the local historical architecture.

It's a lovely view -- and, ironically, taken from the patio of the much less pastoral American Pavilion, the bustling nexus of professional connections and wi-fi access located behind the Palais.

This year's Festival poster -- featuring a plethora of international stars -- towers over the doors of the Salle Debussy, one of the prime press screening locations for the fest.

Finally, an aerial view of the city's old town -- the Palais is just off the left side of the picture, beside the docks complex; at the right of the frame is a colossal mural featuring American and French legends of the cinema. There'll be more images from Cannes -- keep it here at Cinematical for more photos and reviews!
