Cannes Photoblog -- U2 on the Red Carpet!

Filed under: Music & Musicals, Cannes, Festival Reports, Lists

It was, as the announcer kept reminding us, "un occasion singular" -- U2 playing the Red Carpet at Cannes before the Midnight premire of their concert documentary U2 3D. Cinematical was there -- in one of the biggest mobs I've ever seen at Cannes.

(More after the jump ...)

The band only played 2 songs -- "Vertigo" and "Where the Streets have No Name" -- but the crowd adored them, and Bono even nodded to the crowd by turning Vertigo into a bit of a live mash-up, folding lyrics from Plastic Bertrand's French new wave hit "Ca Plane Pour Moi" into the song.

The crowd was gigantic and enthusiastic -- and after the two-song set, the band went inside to watch their 3D concert documentary in it's first public Cannes screening.
