Where Are They Now? The Cast & Crew of Star Wars
Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fandom, Geek Report, Comic/Superhero/Geek
Would you believe us if we told you that David Prowse, the 6-foot-7 man who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, now runs a nudist colony in the South of France? Or that Kenny Baker, the 3-foot-8 actor who played R2-D2, was recently arrested for drunk driving? Or that the 7-foot-2 Peter Mayhew (a.k.a. Chewbacca) has renounced his native Britain and officially considers himself a citizen of the planet Kashyyyk?
One of these bits is actually true, and you can find which in Moviefone's Where Are They Now? feature, arriving as Star Wars fans everywhere (but especially in Los Angeles) celebrate the original film's 30th anniversary. Turns out most of these folks are keeping busy beyond the royalty checks and frequent conventions... then again some of them just stick to the conventions.

It always bugs me that people put Mark Hamill down because he didn't go on to big screen movie success like Harrison Ford. He'll always be the one true voice of Batman's Joker for me.

It's beyond me how people can even begin to consider Pirates as the "new" Star Wars. Sure the Pirates movies are fun to watch and there are a few similar characters in both movies (Pirates and Star Wars), but that's as far as it goes. Star Wars deals with story lines and mythical themes that have been with us for thousands of years. Ask yourself this, will Pirates stand the test of time like Star Wars? Maybe, but I doubt it.

How can anybody compare "Pirates" to "Star Wars"? There is nothing remotely as political or as emotionally gripping as someone going over to the "dark side". Just watch the History Channel and you will see what I mean. There was even an article comparing Bush to a Sith Lord. For all those people who want to believe anything can compare to the
"Star Wars" episodes, have fun in La La Land.

Carie Fisher also had a charming role in the movie, Shaompoo. I think she had alot of talent but just chose to go into another field.

It is quite sad that Mark Hamil never went on to do any movie/film work as great as Star Wars, at least as compared to Harrison Ford. Not many of the other Star Wars actors really went on to do any bigtime work in film, although Carrie Fisher seems to have done well in other work. Maybe Mark Hamil did some other great things though, like have a family, relationships, another business. As for the Pirates movies, I would never compare them to Star Wars, I didn't even like the first one actually and never have cared to see the rest. Maybe it's possible that some of the characters have similar backgrounds/personalities, but outer space is quite a different setting than the ocean, who cares about some idiot renegade characters fighting on old boats?

All I have to say is KUDO's to them all. I wish them the best. They have brought to the screen, even if for brief moments, HOPE!!! And have help to bring dreams to some of our world's best realities. I especially have been a long time fan of Harrison Ford and will continue to see him in projects that he may pursue. In closing I wish all of the cast in the old and the new versions all the best success and happiness!

As an Army combat veteran, it has always disturbed, angered me really, that in order to avoid military service during Vietnam, Harrison Ford claimed (and got) Conscientious Objector Status, because he was "opposed to war." Yet, he made a fortune starring in numerous action films (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc) where he weilded a weapon and killed people left and right.
Ford is a hypocrite. Shame on him.

You have GOT to be kidding me right? Comparing Star Wars to Pirates of the Carribean is like comparing a Mercedes to a Gremlin! Star Wars will always be the BEST trilogy(s) ever in a million years........

OHHHH my gawd! has it Really been 30 years?
I was introduced in the 80s to the first 3 STAR WARS movies as a child buy my dad ...
The special effects, the classic story of good versus evil... Great characters- I still say The Adventures of Han Solo, would have done better than the Indiana Jones films for THE MILLENIUM FALCON alone! Really read there novels...
All these factors and the 3 prequel movies conspire to make the STAR WARS franchise the greatest in American film history.
I also like Pirates, Johnny Depp created THE grimy and syphilitic but well loved Captain Jack Sparrow... the mans the genius of character actors...But lets face it... its not enough to even put Pirates in the same league with Star Wars.
HMMMM.... Maybe if they put Kiera in a sheer White dress with no underwear it might have done a little better... but it still wouldn't have beaten Princess Lia in the gold bikini!
(it seems they didn't wear undies in space a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away)
Carrie fishers put on a few tons since then, but what the heck...there's always the dvds.
Harrison Ford playing Indiana Jones in his mid 60s? ok... if you guys say so...
May the force be with you...

What's H. Ford doing? He's divorced his long time wife and shacking up with a skinny little babe who could be his daughter - or granddaughter! Really heroic, right??

they really should have mentioned Hamill's movie in this article. He may not have been in many big budget movies since Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, but he has done movies since then. Also, he made a great movie and starred in it, Comic Book the movie. He is a great actor, and I think these articles need to have more information about his career.
