'Hot Rod' Trailer and Videos Appear Online

Ok, raise your hand if you've never seen the video Lazy Sunday starring Saturday Night Live's Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell? If you have your hand up now, please go immediately over to YouTube and watch the hilarious video and then return here and continue reading. Why am I telling you to watch this video? Because if you do, you will get a glimpse of the comedic genius that is Andy Samberg. In that video and his other more recent work, Samberg's comedic talent is very apparent and obviuosly shows that he has the potential to be one of the next big comedy superstars. To help illustrate my point, over at IGN they've dropped a trailer for his upcoming comedy Hot Rod, in which Samberg co-stars with Arrested Development's Will Arnett as a wanna-be stuntman performing an ever increasingly dangerous array of wild stunts in order to get enough money to pay for his step-father's heart operation. Over at the sight, they feature the latest trailer (in glorious HD no less) as well as the previous teaser, several stills from the film and the current poster. Among the bits shown in the new trailer are several scenes of Samberg showing off his stuntman prowess (such as it is), a training sequence featuring the great Ian McShane as his step-father and the big final stunt where Samberg's character is poised to jump a row of buses in order to get the money he needs.
After watching this brand new trailer, I'm even more convinced about Samberg and his talent. Say whatever you wish about the film after looking at the trailer, but I'm backing Samberg all the way. In fact, I'm predicting right now that he will be a huge comedy star in a very short time. He's got the chops and isn't afraid of looking stupid for the sake of being funny. Remember people, you heard it here first. Further proof will be evident when Hot Rod opens August 3rd.

Samberg is not funny and I dare say he irritates the piss out of me. Parnell was the funny part of Lazy Sunday. Name one funny thing on SNL that Parnell has done besides Lazy Sunday... or Dick in a Box which was marginally funny and an obvious attempt to recapture the magic.

That looks really, really bad. Especially coming off the summer of Apatow. This comes out near Superbad, I've seen Superbad it's going to destroy this. Even if you think Lazy Sunday was hilarious, I don't but a lot of people do. Samberg was not the reason it was popular so calling him a genius is nuts. Parnell rapping was what people laughed at originally. The white people rapping had been done to death by Samberg and friends online and it didn't become popular because it didn't have Parnell. If Samberg does become a comedy star it will be from something other than Hot Rod cause good lord.

I've been saying it for two years - Andy Samberg is going to be a huge star - Just because he's not Judd Apatow doesn't mean he's not damn hilarious in his own right - seriously - watch some of the "SNL Digital Shorts" to get an idea of what I'm talking about - "Lettuce" is absolutely brilliant, not to mention the original songs he's done for the show (Lazy Sunday, Dick in a Box, and the testicles song with Tom Hanks) - the guy's a freaking riot and anyone who disagrees should go back to watching According to Jim to get their comedy.

If there's anyone in this film that should be a huge comedic star it should be Will Arnett; any Arrested Development fan would agree- I watched a screening of this a few weeks ago, and besides the pre-cutting room messy edges, the best parts of the film were produced by the supporting cast (Arnett, Isla Fisher, and great screentime with Chris Parnell). Samberg is a cameo player at best, and one that perhaps tries to emulate Will Ferrell a bit too much.

If you don't like Samberg then you like things like According to Jim? Come on. I don't like Samberg and my favorite shows are Mr. Show, Stella, etc. I loved Knocked Up, Anchorman, and Superbad. I would say that Samberg shorts appeal to According to Jim fans more than someone like me. I don't hate him but comparing him to effortlessly funny people like Ferrell or Micheal Cera is not going to work. Samberg is just not naturally funny like these guys.
