Joshua Jackson Signs To Play Fletch in 'Fletch Won,' Source Says

Say it ain't so Pacey? For those who thought the re-birth of the Fletch series was going to go one way (Kevin Smith, Jason Lee), and then another way (Bill Lawrence, Zach Braff), it appears it's going to go in an entirely different direction. IESB reports that Joshua Jackson (remember him?) is set to take over the role of Fletch in the long-gestating Fletch Won project, with Steve Pink signing on to direct. Pink, for those who don't know, wrote the John Cusack flicks Grosse Point Blanke and High Fidelity, and he also helmed last summer's surprise hit comedy Accepted, starring Justin Long.
Last time we checked in on Fletch Won, Zack Braff had officially declined to star (because of other projects he wanted to direct), and Bill Lawrence (Scrubs creator) was hanging on by a thread, scouting locations and searching for an adequate replacement. Since then, it seems Lawrence has dropped out and, instead of putting the kibosh on this sucker once and for good, they've decided to give it one more shot. Personally, I have more of a problem with Jackson (who's always pissed me off ever since his days rubbing elbows with Dawson and the gang) than I do with Pink. Grosse Point Blanke, High Fidelity and Accepted are three films I highly enjoyed, and I'm sure the guy would bring some laughs to the franchise. But Joshua Jackson? Pacey? Seriously? IESB says word should be made official anytime now, so everyone -- on the count of three -- sing it with me ... 1 ... 2 ... 3 ... I don't wanna wait for our lives to be over ...

And I thought Zack was the bottom of the barrel, well I'll admit I was wrong. Joshua Jackson?!?!?! Is he even still acting?

Actually, all it would take was a quick glance at imdb to see that Joshua Jackson has been working steadily on film projects since the end of his series, but I guess that would be too much work to employ an internet search engine.
I saw him in Aurora Borealis with Donald Sutherland this year and it was a poignant and understated performance. I believe he won a small film festival award for best actor. One of those little films that was truly a shame to be overlooked.
I know the Pacey jokes are too easy to pass up, but what I remember of the character role is his excellent comic timing (plus great physical comedy) his dry wit and romantic charm. He owned these character qualities with remarkable, natural ease and I wonder how familiar some are with the character of Fletch to think that he couldn't pull it off.

I'm curious why we don't get to hear the "Growing Pains" theme when Leonardo DiCaprio signs for a leading role. Or the 90210 theme for Oscar Winner Hilary Swank. (That one totally rocked by the way!) And I don't recall the theme song to "Head of the Class" but Brad Pitt might.

I also saw Joshua Jackson in Aurora Borealis. A beautifully made movie. That should have gotten a wider release. Don't sell this young man short. He is just finding his stride. I see a lot of good things coming his way. If he plays it right.

I like Joshua Jackson. His addition to the cast might actually make me check out this movie.
BTW I liked Pacey on Dawnson's Creek. He was a lot cooler than that annoying Dawson.

I agree. I'm so happy to see Joshua Jackson in a movie that I'll see it no matter what.
He was far better than the material he was given to work with on Dawson's Creek, that's for sure. But I still think it's really small-minded to belittle actors because of the roles they accepted as mere teenagers. Everyone needs a break and has to start somewhere. Michelle Williams is amazing, as evidenced by her Oscar nom last year. She's getting all these great things offered to her now, deservedly so. Would be a real shame if people discounted her talent simply because she signed on for Dawson's Creek when she was sixteen. At the time, the show was a huge deal and it would have been dumb for any of them to turn that chance down.
If you don't like an actor, that's fine. But at some point it just becomes old and tired to keep referencing a character they played so long ago.

Joshua Jackson is an excellent actor, he is the reason I watched Dawson's Creek and have followed him and watched his movies religiously. He played in Urban Legend, Lone Star State of Mind, Cruel Intentions, Cursed, The Skulls, Bobby, Aurora Borealis. Josh has alot to offer any role he takes on, and he would be the reason I would go to see this movie, I had no desire to check it out until I read he had accepted the role in the movie.
