Bruce Willis Speculates That 'Die Hard 5' Will Be Prequel

Earlier this month, we reported that Bruce Willis is expecting Fox to do another Die Hard movie after Live Free and Die Hard. At the time, the actor mentioned he'd only be interested in part five if he's joined again by Live Free co-stars Maggie Q and Justin Long, as well as director Len Wiseman. In a new story from MTV, though, Willis hints about the idea of making a Die Hard prequel. Could that be the direction for Die Hard 5? I doubt it, considering, as Willis admits, he could only return as a young John McClane if there were some serious special effects makeup utilized. Personally, I don't think a prequel would make sense; the whole idea of the first Die Hard is that McClane is a normal guy who has never been in this kind of situation before. The only other thing that Willis had to say regarding another film is that he prefers that it be shot in the U.S., because Die Hard is an American film.
Unlike his character in Live Free or Die Hard, who is portrayed as an analog man in a digital world, Willis is pretty hip to computers. The interview from which MTV's story is pulled was conducted through a virtual press conference on the online world of Second Life. Willis appeared to fans as an avatar and even confessed to being an internet junkie, getting all his news and doing most of his communication via the web (we already knew he liked to comment on movie sites.) He also applauded Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who plays his daughter, for studying the previous Die Hard films in order to make her character completely recognizable as the spawn of McClane and his wife, Holly (Bonnie Bedelia, who only appeared in the first two movies.) Live Free or Die Hard hits theaters next Wednesday, after which we'll find out if Fox thinks another outing, prequel or not, is worth it.

Asian terrorist organization isn't such a bad idea.. I think that John McClane HAS to DIE in the 5th and final film. It would be cool to get old characters involved again like Sgt. Powell, Richard Thornberg, Zeus Carver, and of course, Holly Gennaro.
It would also be funny (if shot in the Washington, D.C. area) that McClane has to go back to Dulles Airport!
PLEASE MAKE A 5TH AND PLEASE KILL OFF JOHN MCCLANE! It would be the perfect heroic end to one of my favorite movie characrters!

Here's what I think. There should be a Die Hard 5. However it should not be a prequel. That idea would destroy the entire series for everyone. Why are we obsessed with taking characters backwards? And why does everybody think John McClane should die? Why would he die? I know they say that every good hero story should have the hero die, but not this one. I think the one thing John McClane deserves in the end is a family, not dying. That's what he's been trying to fix nearly the entire series, his family. The last film should be about John bringing his family back together for a happy ending, regardless of the title Die Hard. And why does everyone feel it must be set in America? Every movie is set here. Why not somewhere else? We have to step outside of our own boundaries. The final film should have John taking his family (Holly, Jack jr. and Lucy) on a bonding family vacation to like London or something. You could even include Justin Long's character as Lucy's boyfriend too. The bad guys could be some kind of terrorist group in London trying to take over Parliment or something. I know the whole terrorist thing is a little over played, especially in these films, but come on. I just think that making this a prequel (Bruce is in his fifties) would be a huge mistake. And even worse to have him die off. I personally think that Willis's performance as McClane in the fourth film was just as good as in the first, honestly. So all in all, the final movie should ring true to the spirit of the originals and keep the Die Hard in us alive. Come on people.

I think that a 'Die Hard' prequel would be nonsense and will ruin the whole 'Die Hard' franchise. Just start working on making a good 'Die Hard 5', that John McClane's story can carry on and at the same time it will remind the first three films. Especially when 'Die Hard 4.0' was not that great unfortunately...

it wouldn;t make sense if Maggie Q where to appear in Die Hard 5 since we already recognize her character got killed in die Hard 4.
I hope there's a 5th movie, I'll be waiting for it to hit the theaters....

Early reviews are awful. Remember the Underworld director, Lenny Wiseman, is behind the camera on this film. So far all the AICN reviews make HD4 out to be the worst film of the summer. Could they be right?
I watched 7 minutes of DH4 on Yahoo and it was decent. The use of parkour was limited but nice, dialogue a bit quippy but fun and overall not bad on the action front.
I'll end up watching it for no other reason than the first DH is by far one of the best action films of all time and some sick part of me wants to see a film on that level again. DH is 20 years old, yet if it's on any channel and I see it, I stop to watch. That says something about that film...

What about a remake of The Detective? Surely some way could be made into a prequel to Die Hard even with the changes from Nothing Last Forever.

How about a Lethal Weapon prequel? or Rambo? Sounds ridiculous right? About as ridiculous as a Die Hard prequel.

I think it would be AWESOME if they did a fifth and final Die Hard. It should be set as Willis trying to survive in the city of Washington D.C that has been taken over by an International Chinese Oganization that's trying to destroy the United States government systen and having complete power over the entire country.
Shall be knowin as "Die Hard at Last
