Moviefone's 25 Worst Sequels of All Time
Filed under: George Lucas, Harry Potter, Remakes and Sequels, Best/Worst, Hold the 'Fone, Summer Movies
Everywhere you look this summer, there's a poster for another movie sequel: a third Ocean's installment, a second Fantastic Four, a fifth go-around with the hapless Hogwarts crew of Harry Potter ... So in honor of 95% of the season's flicks being part twos, threes or fives, Moviefone decided to rank the 25 worst movie sequels of all time. Why be so negative, you may ask? Why focus on the steaming piles of cinematic horse manure when we could focus on all the gleaming gold? Well, for one, Moviefone has already ranked the 25 best movie sequels of all time. And for another, there's a whole lot of crap out there -- and it's damn fun to write about it.
In fact, there's so much excrement in the vast universe of sequels that we had to be a bit discerning when coming up with our "top" 25 worst. As much as it broke our hearts to omit Teen Wolf, Too and Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood (yes, that is a real movie), we had to limit our picks to sequels that we actually thought -- even for a brief moment -- might be good. And although we admire Jennifer Aniston's stellar work in the original Leprechaun, our hopes weren't exactly high for any of the follow-ups. On the other hand, we were super stoked for Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace before George Lucas crushed our spirits by introducing us to the most galactically annoying character in movie history (damn you, Jar Jar!).
What do you think are the worst sequels of all time? Did we miss any on our list? And, most importantly, when can we expect another Leprechaun movie?

I think you guys really missed the boat on this one. There is absolutely no worse sequel than...GREASE II!!! Michelle Pfiefer must cringe everytime she looks at herself in this extremely poorly made sequel to a very good Grease. O

you guys missed one huge one, Conan the Destroyer (conan 2)...was horrific. i think they thought that a much hotter chick would be better for the film. also, the bad guy at the end was just some guy with a monster mask on which conan killed through a mirror guess...don't know if you'll add it, but it was surely worse than ANY of the other sequels that you have on your list.

You totally missed the worst sequel in history, Hannibal was biggest peice of crap ever made, I waited 5 years for it and I can't tell you how pissed I was when the credits rolled. Silence of the Lambs was an intense and well made movie (my all time favorite) Hannibal was gross, unnecessary and stupid. Julianne Moore was horrible and should be beaten for her non-accent. Thankfully they almost made up for this travesty with Red Dragon ...almost.

Yeah the original Blues Brothers is better but I still thought Blue Brothers 2000 was great so I was surprised that it had such a high ranking in the worst sequels category...

Frank hit it on the head - how you could leave Grease 2 off your top 25 is mind-boggling.
And what about the Smokey & the Bandit sequel(s)?

Alien 4 gets my vote as the worst. It ruined a great series. Weaver must have needed the money, cause that story stank.

To me the worst sequel of all time is Never ending story 2, loved the first movie. All characters where played by some new person (I'm sure I didn't see any old faces from the first movie.)

The worst sequel I ever saw was the now little-known--heck, not known at all--THE BLACK BIRD, a misbegotten sequel to one of the greatest mystery movies ever, THE MALTESE FALCON. Not only did they do a sequel to a movie that didn't need one, didn't WANT one, they decided to make it a comedy. With no laughs.

Weekend at Bernie's 2?! Thats a classic. If somebody can sit down and enjoy the first one, the second is just as enjoyable. He walks when he hears the music!

What the hell is wrong with you people? Bad Boys II was a good sequel and really funny. Granted it was long and that stupid Nelly song drove me nuts it overall was a really good movie. That needs to be revised.

I personally LOVED the Phantom Menace, and I LIKED Jar Jar. I even have his talking doll. And yes, I'm a grown up. Really grown up, but not senile, yet. What can I say?

Who made this list? There are some classically funny movies here. Also, I could have possibly found 25 worst sequels than everyone on this list. This person obviously just picked sequels out of a hat to come up with this piece of crap.

I never saw the third Matrix, and that is why i walked out of the unintelligable second one. It gave me no desire to see the next one and it made me take away cool points for the first.
I really hated the third Halloween, which had nothing to do with Michael Myres. Grant it, the ones that followed were pretty much crap, but this one was unrelated crap about an ininteresting mask. All i really remember of it is a boy dying with the mask on, and snakes coming out of his head. Dreadful.
