New 'Rambo IV' Stills Online

Well, it had to happen: with almost every ancient action franchise having been resuscitated, it was inevitable that Sylvester Stallone would -- after inflicting the adventures of Rocky Balboa on us -- be back with John Rambo. And, with the film nearly a year away from its projected May, 2008 release date, some pictures from John Rambo (directed by Stallone himself, you know) have leaked out to the net to whet our appetites, along with this early trailer. You can find the four shots -- of Stallone looking bedraggled, bruised and bloody -- right here. I'm by-and-large unimpressed with this idea -- Rambo, to me, seems like Forrest Gump or Dick Clark's non-retirement: one of those regrettable, semi-toxic lingering, cultural remnants of Reaganism. At the same time, John Rambo includes, among its many writers, Jeb Stuart -- the man who wrote the first Die Hard film -- so there's a dim chance it might have some action-flick goodness. And, frankly, while I think there's nothing worse than making unkind comments about an actor's physical appearance, I cannot deny that in some of these shots, Stallone looks, well, like a crumpled up scrap of red leather that's been found at the back of the Ikea storehouse. What say you, audiences -- is John Rambo going to be something you're looking forward to -- or just an expensive vanity project to be laughed at? And bear in mind before you answer – when John Rambo hits the big screens, it will have been nearly 26 years since the actually-not-that-bad First Blood lit up theater screens...

I was actually pleasantly surprised by Rocky Balboa; I'm withholding judgment until I see a review of the completed John Rambo.

LOVE Rocky, pity Rambo but this installment seems more gory & violent than the others. I viewed the trailer & got...sick!
Come on, Sly! We don't need to actually SEE somebody's neck get broken or their chest slit open!
I know you're directing this. Ever hear of "editing"??
BUT WE STILL LOVE YA, ROCK!

John Rambo would certainly be an interesting one to catch. It's almost like a return to basics. From what I saw on the trailer, it's very old school - no cgi, just good old fashion dummies, Karo syrup by the boatloads, and a lot of explosions. It's an independent action movie basically. But I think as much flack as Stallone gets for his bad choices, I've learned to at least listen to what he has to say. "Copland" made me a fan.

Jeez, did you strain your back reaching for that inane Reagan reference? Two other presidents spent time in the White House before Forrest Gump came out. And the Dick Clark thing makes no sense at all.
It's like part of the daily checklist for some people. Did I say something smarmy about Reagan today? Damn, nope, can't go to bed yet.

It is going to be great, just as he had done a awesome job with Rocky Balboa. And since you are obviously out to slam the movie because you are a superficial moron that is too concerned about lame things like the fact he is older now, nobody cares what you think dumbass. If you have even tried to pick up any of the great underlying themes like in Rocky Balboa for example, a person shouldn't stop doing something they love just because they had a few too many birthdays. And I'd like to see what kind of shape and how good you look as he does, when you are at his age. Stallone can and will kick ass just fine. He as already proven perfectly that with the last Rocky movie.
