Matt Reeves Directing Secret 'Cloverfield' Movie, Source Says

Today brings more news about that mysterious J.J. Abrams project Cloverfield, which recently unleashed a bizarre kickass trailer in front of Transformers. Here's what we know so far: The film is due out on January 18, 2008, it's produced by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot (Lost, Alias), Paramount Pictures is distributing, and it's apparently a monster movie shot from the POV of handheld video cameras. After viewing said trailer, our own Scott Weinberg said it looks like "The Blair Witch Project meets the Godzilla remake." Well, now, AICN say they know who's directing Cloverfield (or whatever the hell it's called): Matt Reeves. Who? Well, believe it or not, but Reeves was an executive producer and writer on the TV show Felicity, and he also helped the Mark Wahlberg flick The Yards and Under Siege 2. His only big-screen directing gig to date was on The Pallbearer, which he also co-wrote.
Keep in mind that Cloverfield is not the title of this movie; I believe it's the top secret name they're using right now to hide the real title, if there is one. AICN also claims that Drew Godard (Lost, Alias, Buffy) penned the script, and that the featured monster is something called The Parasite. With all the Lost folks involved, some fans speculated that Cloverfield could be a companion piece of sorts to the show. Personally, I'm in the camp that thinks this is a totally new flick -- I just can't understand all this secrecy. What do they have to hide? Is all this hush hush just a plot to drum up internet buzz for the project, or is there another reason why no one will talk about it? Regardless, I think a monster movie told from the POV of folks running around with video cameras has the potential of being a really fun ride, so long as the damn camera doesn't shake repeatedly and give me a headache. We already know there will be a host of major Star Trek XI announcements later this month at ComicCon, so look for more Cloverfield info to be revealed at that time.

This trailer was insane, i was thinking it was some movie about the life of some college students, then the news came on and then the explosion occurs. Then they run to the roof top. I was sitting in extreme anticipation. Then down stairs to the streets of new york. Then in the distance a huge ball of fire looks as if its growing, shooting debris all over, and with the grimy, dark yet clear view of the hand held camcorder it gives you the feel of a great movie. But at the very end the statue of libertys head come flying and landing revealing a huge scar on its face. What ever the hell could rip of the statues head, or blow it up in this matter it has to be some bad as thing, but thing is what i call it cause who knows what doing it. this cloverfield aka top secret movie looks to be great. hope it is.

While sitting through some of the LAME trailers in front of Transformers, the Bad Robot logo appeared and my friends and I (all avid, no, RABID Lost fans) look at one another with hysterical wide eyes. A couple of them could swear that they heard the unmistakable call of Cerebus (smokey, whatever), but I didn't. I think a lot of folks WANTED to hear it, if you catch my drift.
The most important theme in Lost is the "End of the World". I can see how easy it is for people to make the connection between this Cloverfield project and the Lost show, but I don't think they are connected. The show is nowhere near completion, so i doubt we're going to see events from these two separate productions intermingling with eachother. Oh, I'm sure we'll see tons of Lost "product placement" in the form of Hanso Foundation, Whidmore Industries, and Apollo Chocolate stuff, but thats J.J.'s bag, baby! He's built a universe, I just hope this Cloverfield thing isn't what you and others describe as being a Blair Witch meets Godzilla... because I thought both those flicks where pretty much lame, but that's totally just my opinion, man.
I don't like being "tricked" into seeing a movie, but if the marketing for this stays on the same path, that's exactly what it's going to do to a LOT of people.

I have a few friends in Hollywood frantically trying to pin some information down. A few things we know already are posted on my blog at http://www.cloverfieldproject.com.
There are a few reports surfacing that shooting is taking place this week in L.A., another victim of the "Clover Monster" or monsters.

Interesting how all of the "Cthulhu" / HP Lovecraft boosters have disappeared.............Their idea sounded all wrong, anyway. Isn't Guillermo del Toro in the early stages of prep on an adaptation of "At The Mountains Of Madness"? Seems highly unlikely that two different studios would suddenly put out two movies based on one of Lovecraft's fables....

Everyone reading this if you don't already know, http://www.TheParasiteMovie.com/ is a fake! This website is just to lure you on to that message board. There are a lot of sites like that.
I think this whole "let's keep it top secret" is awesome. Hopefully nothing leaks before it's time. The trailer is amazing and looks very very promising!

LOL we dont need to find clues on this movie... just look at the trailer thats enough.. no need to go to thousand of sites to get the INSIDE info.
in the trailer the biggest secret to discover is
""I saw it, It's ALIVE, it's huge."
This was said by some person in the trailer..
which means that HE saw the monster. Which is ALIVE and its HUGE.
now look at the words this person used, many possiblities exist? aint it?
IF the guy saw the monster.. hows he alive.. why didnt the monster kick his a$$, i think slusho.jp is in no WAY related to this movie btw...
Its a movie abt a monster.. the guys in the party are in no way related to the monster, unless ROB has done SOMETHING IN JAPAN that may upset a monster and is COMING afer him, which in no way is possible/doesnt seem good for 30 M $ budget....
There is only two possiblites for this MOVIE.. either the WORLD ENDS..or WORLD SURVIVES..
if the WORLD ENDS means that its some GODLY FIGURE... COZ monsters/things/etc., doesnt/cant have the POWER to END the world....
IMHO: jj cant make this type of movie coz if the world ends on the said date, and if that day comes and we are alive, then we are gonna go to his home and kick his sorry buTT for dishing out this crap movie aint it
SO IF IT DOESNT END.. who is gonna SAVE IT... and that's where the REAL twist/climax of the story comes
IF THERE IS A MONSTER DESTROYING A CITY, then
there are two possibilites
1) either MILITARY SAVES THE WORLD
2) SUPER HUMAN/ MUTANTS/ GROUP OF EXTRA ORDINARY PEOPLE gather and DEAL WITH THIS MONSTER....
IMHO:
the reason 1) doesnt work because
i) doesnt seem good for the very reason that PEOPLE have been making the same kindda movies over and over again
ii) JJ is a smart @$$
so we are staring at the 2) conclusion...
GOD LIKE PEOPLE SAVING HUMANKIND FROM MONSTER THING.. but this type of movies are made like over and over again what i think is there is a MONSTER in the movie and WE cant see IT...you guys know WHY coz they have to make money..
NOW how does making money and monster related you may seem to ask by scratching your head(if you have it i.e.,)
Since the movie is said to be SHOT using a camcorder/user there only a 1% possiblity that a person holding a CAM will record a monster coz either
1) HE POOP IN HIS PANTS or
2) HE POOP IN HIS PANTS
again there are two possible reasons..
If he does record the monster.. then how is he gonna film the monster being taken down at the climax of movie where super humans/military kick monsters' @$$...coz how can he run around looking for the monster?? whateva...
CONCLUSION:
Since its 2 difficult to analyze everything at the moment.. IMHO i say that monster is NOT SHOWN/ PARTLY SHOWN in the movie coz PRODUCERS NEED MONEY.. so then there would be a sequel where people shoot/bring the monster down.. that would be on 9-9-09 cloverfield 2... which in IMHO is related to movie.. IF U SEE THE photo with two girls upside down, in the centre of the pic where people say there is MONSTER.. there is a number 3 (will be posting more on this on www.projectcloverfield.blogspot.com). I have deciphered the IDEA behind number 3 & 9.. they are like CLOSE AS HELL to the MOVIE.
CODENAMED CLOVERFIELD : 1-18-08
CODENAMED CLOVERFIELD 2 : 09-09-09
till then we have to scratch our heads.. i think its not worth the effort.. but human mind is such that we WANT to see whats HIDDEN :p
ciao
