Bumblebee Actor Teases Possible 'Transformers' Prequel

I'd say at this point it's pretty obvious we're going to get some sort of Transformers sequel within the next couple years. Fans went absolutely nuts for the film when it arrived last week, and director Michael Bay has already said he knows exactly where he wants the story to go. Ah, but Bay isn't the only one talking. Mark Ryan, who voices Bumblebee in the film, sat down to talk to the folks over at SKNR about all kinds of things, including his voice work on this film as well as his involvement in another one. When asked if he had heard anything about a sequel, Ryan said: "I recently recorded more material for the DVD release of the film. It has to do with the Prequel that will set up the second film."
The prequel that will set up the second film? What could he be talking about? Will there be some sort of Transformers prequel on the DVD? Will it be live action? Will it be animated? Perhaps Bay and Co. have plans to release something along the lines of The Animatrix; an animated short(s) featuring some of the same voices from the film that will be used as a bridge to the sequel. Regarding that sequel, Bay told Entertainment Weekly that, if he is going to make it, he'll probably shoot a smaller film first (the one about a bunch of guys who hang out at a gym). He added: "There's a lot of really cool, big robot stuff that I had in my head that we didn't do. I just want to see how this works. You might not grow as much as a director [to do a sequel]. But it's kind of like you have your baby and you don't want someone else to take it.." I guess we'll have to wait until the DVD is released for Ryan's answer to make a little more sense. Thoughts?

Something along the lines of the Animatrix would work really well for the Transformers. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some more flashbacks on the DVD or on a seperate DVD. There were some scenes that felt like they relied on a flashback that we didn't see.

A DVD prequel would be great. They could easily use that to bridge any gap and string in a couple of new characters or plotlines if need be. Not to mention the truckloads of $$ it will undoubtedly pull in! In my opinion it's an obvious marketing move that'll work well for both parties. We love watching all that is Transformers and they love selling it to us!
Now if someone could just please explain to me who the idiot was who has control over toy licensing and decided to bridge a gap between two of the best STAND ALONE toy lines... Transformers & Star Wars, I'd love to know. I was in a Target store yesterday and my jaw dropped to see Star Wars Transformers! What the hell is that!! Did I completely miss the boat on these? Do others reading this actually like the combination of these two iconic toy lines??? I thought it was completely unecessary and smacked of someone sitting behind a desk who had no interest here other than to milk these products for all they're worth... and not in a good way. I think the only clever toy bridging occurred with Optimash Prime and Darth Tater thanks to the Mr. Potato Head line. All else should be kept separate!! What's next... G.I. Joe invading Castle Grayskull???

@Rod: The Transformers/Star Wars travesty has been around for about a year now. It's only because of merchandising tie-ins that these products have gone mainstream.
What I wanna see is an Allspark closet organizer. That'll give those Space Saver guys a run for their $$$

I'm not even gonna get started on the "Star-Formers". It is good to hear that they are actually going to add some extra material to the DVD that is actually worth the extra $$ you know they are gonna ask for. I was really surprised by this movie. My expectations were pretty low and it completely blew me away. Most things make me feel old these days and this one made me feel like a kid all over again.
Was wondering... is it just me or was Bumblebee cooler as the old Camero or the new? I thought he had more character as the old myself.
I hope the next movie has a few more car makers on board. Let's face it, unless the Autobots want to be falling apart in a few years they need some German and Japanese cars in there. Do you hear me Audi? Acura? BMW? Nissan? Here is about the largest marketing machine you will find (no pun intended).

I agree with James, I'm 40-ish and this movie made me feel like a kid again,(goosebumps and all)! To say that I was blown away would be an understatement
. I hope that Bay/Spielberg and company can outdo themselves in the sequel. I would LOVE to see another "arrival sequence"(with the same awesome Steve Jablonsky music score!) of the remaining Autobots and little less of the cheesiness,(i.e. the fat kid running with camera/cell phones yelling "this is way better than Armageddon"). I'm sure Megatron will be resurrected somehow also.
