'The Dark Knight' Teaser Trailer Hits with New Joker Photo!
Filed under: Action, Warner Brothers, Fandom, Trailer Trash, DIY/Filmmaking, Movie Marketing, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels, ComicCon

Although Warner Bros. decided not to debut anything Dark Knight related during their official panel, the studio staged an elaborate stunt outside by painting a phone number across the sky, followed by a message from the Joker. For those who'd like to play along without skipping to the end of everything, call this number: 1-800-395-9646. Follow the riddles given to you on the phone over at the website we talked about earlier today. Eventually, as you pass each step, the above photo will appear. Looks like Maggie Gyllenhaal ain't having such a swell day. And yes, that's Heath Ledger as the Joker with a knife up to Mags' sweet face.
As you move further along in the Joker's game, eventually you'll be provided with the first teaser trailer for The Dark Knight ... in glorious HD quicktime. It's taking a really long time to load the best quality trailer, but I got through pretty quickly with this link. As expected, it is the same trailer we wrote about yesterday (the one that was leaked onto YouTube) in which no actual footage is shown; just a fairly heated conversation between Bruce Wayne/Batman (Christian Bale) and Alfred (Michael Caine). The Joker's voice pops on briefly, a Joker card flies at the screen ... and we're out. Stay tuned to Cinematical as we've been all over ComicCon and will share all the glorious breaking news as it hits.

I'm still excited about this but I am not to keen with the Jokers face looking like its just makeup and not all of his skin is white.

Maybe theyre going the route that the disfigurement was actually only the mouth damage and maybe the redness. The white paint might just be theatricality of a twisted mind, which I think makes more sense than the chemicals doing everything.

Of course I can not be sure but I listened several times and that did not sound like Heath's voice. I know he will be changing it but it just did not sound like him. Just my thought and I could be wrong.

what i dont understand is how ignorant most people are about these characters. they want to see the pop, yuppy, child friendly spiderman type batman. people dont understand that batman is known as the dark knight. thank god they're finally naming the movie that. he is a dark character, and the joker is even more twisted. but its all based in reality. even though its comic book characters, what chris nolan and crew are trying to create is a realistic world that they can exist in. so please. realistically think about the possibility of a man falling into a giant vat of acid, and for some reason he comes out looking like a clown. i think the direction that chris is taking this film in is brilliant.

To zac,
The Joker always had white skin in the comic. Even in the "dark realistic" version. I just think that making such a major change to a major character might not be the best way to go. At the very least he needs the green hair. A blond Joker just seems wrong. Having said that I think the Christopher Nolan Batman "vision" or whatever you want to call it is great and I'll probably like the movie no matter what the Joker looks like I just wish he would keep him with white skin and green hair. They never even have to explain his origin, which they had kept "secret" in the comics for years.

Everyone needs to stop bitching about this new joker - the movie is not even out yet - this is just a teaser pic - I'm sure the same people were bitching about Batman Begins before it came out, only to be blown away by the movie. So please shut your pie holes, get hyped about the movie and let it roll next year!

I sure hope that it isn't Ledger's voice in the trailer. That line had some of the worst acting I've ever heard and the laugh was so bad. I would like them to keep this Joker more like the comic book Joker. The Joker isn't supposed to have a back story. In the entire history of every retelling of the story(besides the one movie) Batman has never been able to discover who the Joker is. The Joker seemed to have come from no where. And please don't let Ledger just try to repeat Jack Nicholson's role.

This entire hair argument reminds of the big hype about Craig playing James Bond. Nicholson was an amazing joker. I'm not looking for a repeat though. A different approach is needed. I'm looking foward to it. I'm sure whatever Nolan chooses will be find.
I wouldn't mind if the Joker's history was a mystery. In fact, that would be great.

I will definitely be going to see this movie, but I was disappointed to see that the Dark Knight joker has the same old same old look that has been done many times before. I don't know that I would like a blond joker, but I would like to see some sort of revamp of the joker's look. I have always wanted this character to look more menacing and twisted (heavy on twisted).
That said, I hope Ledger does a great job. I wasn't sure about Nicholson as the joker, but loved it. Hopefully this joker will be just as good.
