Extended Cut of 'Transformers' Hits IMAX Next Month

If you thought Transformers looked awesome on the big screen, imagine how the giant robots will look on a giant IMAX screen. ComingSoon.net is reporting that Michael Bay's summer blockbuster will be released to IMAX theaters on September 21. With those special effects practically in your face, you might not even notice the difficulties that Cinematical reviewers encountered, like the acting that's "as stiff and inhuman as the robots" (James Rocchi) or the story that was "written poorly and edited together in a worse fashion" (Scott Weinberg). The IMAX version will be different from the original theatrical release, however -- more footage is promised. No details are available yet, although it's easy to guess that the added scenes are likely to be flashy special effects that will look fabulous on IMAX, as opposed to more backstory or dialogue. After all, no one is going to rush to see Transformers at IMAX so they can hear the conversations more clearly. In July, Erik Davis told us about an interview with Mark Ryan, the voice of the Bumblebee robot, in which the actor mentioned DVD material of a prequel that would set up a potential second film. An IMAX version would be a great way to present that footage. As soon as we find out more about what's in this extended IMAX version, we'll keep you posted.

Oh good. Because for sure what "Transformers" needs is to be longer.

I thought this movie was a great popcorn flick, funny and pretty mindblowing effects wise, a 3D imax version would've been the best route to go

Dreamworks: Me and other PS3 owners are very disappointed that you made the unwise decision to not produce Transformers on BluRay format. After studying both formats we will continue to support Bluray because we know it is the better format for our needs. So I guess we buy this move on a regular DVD until you change your mind.

Dreamworks: I am happy that you have decided on a type of hi-def format for all of us. What makes me even happier is A: A second movie. B: Prequal material?? (nice!) C: IMAX extended cut!

I didn't really dig this movie, at all. I could have definitely done without all the laughable hacker intrigue and rote military action.
In my opinion, "Transformers" is simply a mega-budget rip-off of DreamWorks' own "Small Soldiers" with bigger toys. I mean, both films even feature the great Kevin Dunn as the strict dad who's overprotective of his property so I suppose they wanted to invite unfavorable comparisons, for some reason.
After seeing the movie, along with pronounced indifference, I experienced an overwhelming desire to see a magical alternate cut of the film. One where I could just sit and watch Shia LaBeouf kicking it with the endearingly goofy Autobots and employing them in the service of attaining the factory-built Megan Fox for about a hundred minutes. And, of course, shoehorning the hilarious John Turturro and his also-goofy Sector 7 pals in for a little stakes-raising conflict wouldn't hurt.
And there you have it, 'Transformers" as directed by LG. It probably would have made just as much cash and cost half as much to make, thereby allowing it to make even more of that proverbial fat cash and further asserting its superiority over Michael Bay's hollow, sound-and-fury version.
Honestly, after seeing "Transformers", I felt kinda cheated, and not just because after the first act, Shia LaBeouf has all great acting duties robbed from him and is forced to illogically and improbably run around with his suddenly boring robot buddies and dreamgirl looking for/carrying a multitude of stupid MacGuffins while being chased by huge, evil robots that look exactly like his robot buddies.
I felt cheated because, for a big summer movie with all its trailers and posters and press proudly trumpeting the direct involvement of none other than Mr. Wonder & Awe, himself, Steven Spielberg, his truly magical filmmaking fingerprints were disappointingly few and far between.

Seriously? Is it a fanboy issue or did everyone go to see the wrong movie? It was hilarious, and the cg, action scenes were outstanding.
Was everyone seeking the oscar award winning robot moment where optimus renounces himself and falls in love with megatron?
You ask too much of a summer action/comedy.

It was the only movie worth seeing this summer. I worshiped this movie, and i never, ever let critics influence me in what I go to see.
I am a mature movie goes, lets say, I am in middle age now, and saw the original animated in theatres. Even then it had potential, though i disliked rodimus prime intensely.
I hope to see the female autobots, such as RC, and Alita one in the next one.

This movie was intense. Fans of the animated series and possibly the fans of "Beast Wars," have been waiting for this movie to come out for a good 13 plus years. I laugh at the people who say its just an ok or horrible movie. Michael Bay is an awesome director who had a vision to bring the Autobots and Decepticons to life.Even if you did not like the movie, you cant say the special fx werent incredible. I'm talking Saving Private Ryan or 300 Status. So. People. Are you ready for the next one? I sure as hell am! :)
