Finally an 'AVP2' Trailer -- It's Red Band and It's Awesome

It isn't even just that the sequel is Rated R, unlike its PG-13 predecessor, and that this uncensored trailer gives us more gore and violence than the anything in the first movie. It's that the Strause Brothers (sibling effects-wizards-turned-directors Colin and Greg) and screenwriter Shane Salerno seem to have the right story for us fans of the original franchises. From the Alien series we have a government/military that doesn't care about civilian life (this is also popular in other horror films of late). From the Predator series we have the thick brush of a forest (almost jungle-like) for more thermal-vision stuff -- which just wasn't as interesting in the cold, arctic setting of the last effort.
Of course, the R-rated stuff is pretty sick, too. As is the seemingly Spielbergian touches: the flashlights in the woods searching for an alien, but it isn't E.T.; a very Jurassic Park-esque scene with Alien young substituted for Velociraptors. Hey, I know it won't possibly be as good as any Spielberg movie nor will it likely be as excellent as the real installments in either franchise. But it still looks awesome. I just hope the trailer hasn't spoiled the best killings -- that Predator knife thrown at the blonde, the double head-shots, the eyes poked out -- or the ending with that final shot with the F-bomb and the Alien kill, which looks climactic. Anyway, one thing is clear: Fox is really going with that Requiem subtitle, and I now realize that I made a mistake with my last AVP2 post; the official title is Aliens vs. Predator -- Requiem (not Alien vs. Predator -- Requiem), as if it really matters.

Hmm... "awesome"... there's a similar word I was thinking of. Oh yeah: "crappy."
You made an interesting point, though. I felt like I was watching a number of other movies I'd already seen, each scene with either an Alien or Predator substituted for some other character. It pretty much looked like any horror movie from the 90's. To me.

how this is considered anything but cliche is beyond me.
and btw, there is no movie titled alien vs. predator 1. why do people feel this need to attach a '1' to the first in a series of films?

The "appropriate tagline..in space, no one can hear you scream..."
Followed by a spaceship...in space, with its engines roaring :p

I have to say that Alien vs. Predator did not earn a sequel in my opinion. As far as I know its profits were low and there are almost no fans of it. So I guess the justification is coming from all the money made on the separate franchise installments. This movie looks like it believes in the more monsters bloodier kills concept of horror filmmaking. I also think based purely on the number of kills shown that they most definitely have given away pretty much all of them. How many more could there be? It's something like 15 different kills and that's only counting humans. Usually when a movie like this comes out I can say, even thought I won't see it I know that there is an audience for it. I honestly don't know who this movie is made for. If there are AvP fans out there then I think this movie will definitely up the ante and really entertain them. I loved alien, aliens, alien 3 and the original predator... but I won't be back for their second meeting.

Not a bad trailer-they definitely went for the R. Still don't understand why it's called "Requiem", though. Makes it sound kinda arty.

Looks pretty sick to me. You know... in a good way. I had actually briefly considered putting this on a list of "Five Most Pathetic Upcoming Geek Movie Sequels". Now I'm glad I didn't.

It made $171,181,096 with a total budget of around $105,000,000, so $66mil profit on cinema tickets plus god knows what on DVD makes for a sequel in my books, besides i enjoyed the first one, i love both franchises and will eat up anything including 1 or the other no matter how they look, just wish Cameron or Scott would give us a new alien movie

Wow pretty jaded audience most of you seem to be. Kind of surprising imo, sure AvP wasn't the movie we all wanted, but this one looks to be far better. Hell with the much needed R rating approved that's a major improvement already in my book.
Those who loved the original movies "should" be excited that we're all given another chance to get it right.
This trailer looks clean and well put together, the production values look solid, along with the effects and blood.
And in my opinion looks fun as hell! Should have plenty of knee jerks and a few "Oh wow" moments...so why don't we applaud the fact that as fans of the genre we get a good, solid scifi-horror movie to feast out eyes on.
Some of you have forgotten that going to the movies is all about the fun.
And this trailer promises plenty of that to me.

RA
