EXCLUSIVE: 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian' Official One-Sheet
Filed under: Action, Disney, Fandom, Family Films, Movie Marketing, Remakes and Sequels, Posters
Boy, do we have a whopper of a poster premiere today, folks. Courtesy of Walt Disney Pictures, Cinematical is happy to bring you the first official one-sheet (click poster for larger image) for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Directed once again by Andrew Adamson, Prince Caspian is a follow-up to the highly-successful The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe -- and seeing as you folks shelled out more than $730 million to watch that flick, I'd say you're probably pretty stoked about the sequel. This time around, the Pevensie siblings (Peter, Lucy, Susan and Edmund) once again return to the magical land of Narnia, only to learn that 1300 years have passed in Narnian times since their last adventure. Not only that, but Narnia is now under the control of the evil King Miraz; a man who's plotting to rid himself of one Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes), his nephew and the rightful heir to the throne, so that he can be replaced by Miraz's newborn son. Now, it's up to those pesky Pevensie kids to locate their friend Aslan (Liam Neeson), aid Prince Caspian, defeat Miraz and restore magic and glory to the land of Narnia. Of course, they'll have a little help along the way. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian arrives in theaters on May 16.

I know movies like this are all about fantasy and suspending your disbelief, but I always find it odd that in Lord of the Rings the hobbits lived with 1600s technology while the humans seem to be stuck in the 1200s (except for the pipe smoking part). Now we have a land where 1300 years go by and they don't advance one bit in technology.

You must remember that it has only been within the past 3-400 years that we've even advanced as far as we have. There were at least 6000 years that wars didn't really change.

Excellent point Paul. My first reaction was exactly the same as Johns, but if you think about it then its not actually that far fetched to think that things would not change after such a long period of time.

It has been said that if the Library of Alexandria wasn't destroyed Columbus would have been "sailing" to the moon and not the new world...

Sometimes I wonder if anyone in the film industry understands the significance of Aslan... He's the Christ figure of the story, not just the Pevinsee's "friend", and their goal isn't to find HIM, they're trying to reach Caspian, and do what they can on their own.
Also, "Pesky" doesn't quite sound right about the Pevinsees. Maybe from Miraz's Point of View, but it doesn't have the right ring or correctness to it.
The poster is very nicely done, and overall a nice poster. The ideas present and the overall layout is good, but the lighting and Caspian's facial expression give it the wrong feeling. Caspian has too much of an evil look about him (the lighting doesn't help) - He's not an evil character, or even a good vs. evil character, like Smeagol. That just doesn't seem right.
But overall, a very nice poster!

I don't think the lighting is supposed to be representative of his character; it's just the time-honored trick of "we're giving you a glimpse, but it'll be the absolute bare minimum, just enough to make you think how cool it looks". Which, admittedly is quite a lot of cool.

So i assume anyone who dies in this movie gets resurrected by the film's end? As long as it has beavers wearing armor im there.

Is it me, or does the guy playing Caspian look just like Anakin in Ep 3?
Hopefully that's not foreshadowing...
Just kidding - I think the film will rock. It's based on Lewis's book, so how could it not?
Sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for Dawn Treader, the absolute BEST of the series...

I love the voyage on the Dawn Treader too! It's one of my favorites, but how can one put the lable "favorite" on just one of the chronicles? I haven't quite figured mine out; I doubt I ever will.
I agree though: pesky doesn't suit the pevensies at all. And Aslan finds them, if I remember it straight... But seriously, that poster is awesome! I love it!!! Man! If that guy's playing Caspian... wow! That is gonna be some movie!
But you know, the movie will never quite surpass the book... no matter how hard they try. You just can't out do the master, and C.S. WAS the master.

I think this poster is fantastic and I cannot wait to own it. Havent read the book yet but I think the lighting on the poster is terrific. As a Christian man fighting to be in the light, I think its perfect that Aslan is the shinier part of the poster.
The battle is already won...but the Sword of the Spirit is still to be claimed - by us all. Simply believe, follow, and obey.

I agree- that the poster is wonderful! I'm very excited to see the movie, especially since I enjoyed the first installment so much.
As for the lighting, I think it indicates the status of the objects behind Caspian rather than the essence of Caspian himself. If you look to the left, you see a castle which has been empty for a thousand years, one that is rumored to be haunted. Below the castle is Miraz's army. I think both visuals represent the darker forces in the story. On the right, however, are Aslan, the children, and basically the forces of the light. Caspian is stuck in the middle of the conflict, so I think his placement and the lighting on him is entirely appropriate.

" how can one put the lable "favorite" on just one of the chronicles? I haven't quite figured mine out; I doubt I ever will." -'Queen Lucy'
And yet each book is entirely distinct with its own cadence, setting and characters, so I imagine most people have one or two books that resonate with them more than the others.
Don't ask me what mine is though. Too hard.
Back to the topic, I agree that this rendition of Caspian (though it captures his family's dark history) replaces the shining, renewed hope he embodies with a less flattering, twisted countenance. The man in this poster seems almost to want the audience to fear him.
