Monday Morning Poll: Who Should Play Batman and Superman in 'Justice League' Movie?
Filed under: Action, Casting, Warner Brothers, RumorMonger, Fandom, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Monday Morning Poll
Whether we're ready for it or not, the new live action Justice League of America movie will most likely head into production early next year. Thus, a firm cast needs to be in place soon. Here's what we know so far: Happy Feet's George Miller has signed on to direct the film, which will most likely come out in the summer of 2009. Christian Bale will not be playing Batman, and, as of right now, the same goes for Brandon Routh with regards to Superman. Warner Bros. would like to use the Justice League movie to help launch other superhero franchises like Aquaman, Wonder Woman and the Flash. As of right now, no one has been cast.
It will be important to have a few familiar faces in the line-up, and so far it seems Warners might be leaning towards casting a well known personality in the Batman role (Ryan Gosling's name has come up on more than one occasion). Just recently, Tom Welling was rumored to be up for the Superman part, however IESB claims to know that's not happening. With so much time between Superman films (we may not see Bryan Singer revisit the character until 2010), don't be surprised if Brandon Routh's name doesn't come up more than once. I have a feeling the other superhero characters will be played by relative unknowns (like Singer did with Routh in Superman Returns), and what they'll do is surround those unknowns with popular folks in the Batman and Superman roles since these will be one-off jobs, and those actors probably won't need to sign for multiple pictures. Then again, I could be wrong.
So, I ask you: Who would need to play Batman and Superman in Justice League in order to get you super excited for the film?

Wouldn't "Mad Max's George Miller" be a little more applicable to Justice League?
Hmm. Maybe not, though that might be a more interesting take on the genre!

Not knowing the script, I would have opted for a 'Kingdom Come' theme and gone with older actors - but that's just me. If this is an origin flick, then we have to assume heroes are relatively young in their careers. So in order:
Batman - Jason Statham
Superman - Josh Brolin
Wonder Woman - Monica Belluci
Aquaman - Brian Geraghty
Green Lantern (John Stewart)- Common
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) - Matthew Fox
Green Arrow - Owen Wilson
Flash - Ryan Reynolds
Martian Manhunter - Rodrigo Santoro
Black Canary - Gretchen Mol

This movie is a seriously bad idea...
It would have been a good idea 3 years ago before they relaunched 2 of the main characters franchises. Its going to take us back to the mid 80's with the duel Bond's.
They should just stick to an animated/cgi movie or go with one of the lesser known roster setups (ie Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Fire & Ice, etc)

This may be the worst idea for a move I've heard of in a long as a superman fan I'm particularly disappointed that the man of steel won't be made until 2010 if at all. WB thinks their so smart and are setting up themselves to make future franchises out of this but this is not tv you can't just have all these characters on the same movie screen at the same time and expect people to buy it they should wait for this one it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Why not get Michael Keaton back as Batman. . . He could play him older and more hardened. He could be the badass of the JL and at odds with Superman a lot...I'm sure Keaton would cost a lot of money though. But if they want to actually make money on this film, they need Keaton and then Welling to bring in the fanboys/girls...

Flash - Ryan Reynolds

He's got the sarcasm part down. The only problem is that he's pretty damn ripped so they'll have a hard time coming up with an even more super Superman :-)
If they are looking for someone, I'll take a character. If the movie is like the cartoon, there are only like 400 spots to fill.

They really should tweak things to make Batman older and the mentor type to the other superheroes -- 20 years older than Christian Bale's Batman/Bruce Wayne. That way, we'd get to watch an older Batman, and the JL movie wouldn't tread too much on the continuity of the Nolan/Bale Batman series. (It could be assumed/imagined that the JL movie takes place 20 years after the events of the Nolan Batman flicks.)

superman-TOM WELLING
COZ, I believe he work so hard in smallville as superman. The way he adapt himself in superman's character is very wise and superbly done. Smallville and Tom Welling makes us(fans) believe in him of casting in the movie. Plus, most probably..the smallville fans are dissappointed with recent movie called "superman return".
The reason why i choose Tom welling to play as superman because, he got the exact look of both clark kent and superman and i'm sure he is much hotter than bradon(superman return). We just cant grab somebody's like christopher reeves, coz he is so perfect for superman. but now..Tom welling have an update features of superman from comic looks from time to time.
My suggestions.. you guys can build up a website, to vote wether Tom welling or bradon or..maybe some other guys who wants to play superman in the net. and we do the vote. and i'm sure...Tom Welling gonna play as SUPERMAN!!
Thank you..

In my opinion, a JLA movie needs to work in two important levels. One, it needs to be sold as a kind of "X-Men" movie, where several characters can be introduced (including fan favorites) and serve the story. Two, it's a launching movie for several DC characters. It's a safer bet for the studio to find out which characters deserve a spin-off. With this in mind, the High profile characters like Batman and Superman will have to stay small (they already have movies and are popular already, they don't need to be 'sold' to us again) Instead, potential franchise characters like "The Flash" and 'Wonder Woman" will have a prominent role.
I would cast:
1)Batman (Gerard Butler)
2)Superman (Tom Welling)
3)Green Lantern (Martin Henderson)
4)The Flash (Ryan Reynolds)
5)Wonder Woman (Jessica Biel)
6)Aquaman (Philip Winchester)

THE TWO MUST-HAVES:
Superman - Noah Bean (Damages) - Looks and acts EXACTLY like Christopher Reeve. Could definately 'lead' the team and has the perfect build, voice and
mannerisms. Google him, TRUST ME.
The Flash - Michael Rosembaum (Smallville) - Cartoon Voice (While we're at it, he should have played Darth Vader instead of that other idiot). He's done
comedy before, he's PERFECT for the role.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE OTHERS:
Wonder Woman - Rachel Bilson (The OC)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaFKFqCnvAw says it all. Not sure if she'll be tall enough, but height can be 'adjusted' in the world of movies. :)
Nadia Bjorlin was also a good suggestion I read here.
Batman - Dominic Purcell was also a good suggestion I read since the actor needs to be built, yet athletic (not skinny like Christian Bale) and have a
slightly mysterious, reclusive look about him. All the other suggestions here are just too skinny. Kevin Conroy has the voice, but not the body or age
unfortunately.
Green Lantern - Tyrese Gibson or J August Richards would be good. I don't see why Phil LaMarr (The cartoon voice of GL) couldn't do it though.
Martian Manhunter - Carl Lumbly could do it since this character will probably be CGI anyway (or similar to the way they did Golum in LotR).
Not sure if they'll go Hawk Girl or Aquaman as the 7th, but I'd rather see Hawk Girl and have Aquaman as a 'support' role.
Lex Luthor - Give Clancy Brown a screentest, his looks and voice are just too devious. Plus he's the cartoon Lex. :)
Finally, they MUST license out all of the music, especially superman's, batman's and the cartoon justice league and justice league unlimited intros. Apart
from storytelling, music is the biggest reason why these cartoon/comic->movie translations fail. Oh and get the JL:U writers, they are unbelievable.

Glad to see that four of my choices made the Wish List
Batman - Jason Statham
Wonder Woman - Monica Bellucci
Green Lantern - Common
Flash - Ryan Reynolds (ok, I went with the crowd there)
But remember folks.. it's SuperMAN, BatMAN, Wonder WOMAN
Not SuperBoy, BatBoy and WonderGirl (that's a Teen Titan movie or Legion of SH)
I think Welling is good choice if they want 'star' power plus will fulfill fanboys who want to see TW in tights (so to speak)
Hope they get the script done before the strike. If it's still up for discussion, I would go for a KINGDOM COME version and use older actors.
Batman - Bruce Willis
Superman - Patrick Warburton
Wonder Woman - Catherine Zeta Jones
Flash - Bruce Campbell
Green Lantern - Laurence Fishburne
Martian Manhunter - Ving Rhames
Black Canary - Heather Locklear
Thoughts?
