Jessica Biel to Play Wonder Woman in 'Justice League' Movie!
Filed under: Action, Casting, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
Yesterday, our Christopher Campbell shared rumors that an Australian actress was in talks to play Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League of America flick. While he said it probably wouldn't be Jessica Biel, Warner Brothers wasn't listening. Variety has reported that the former 7th Heaven actress is going to put on the powerful accessories and become the famous Amazonian superheroine who flies around in invisible jets and golden-lassos bad guys -- that is, if talks don't go sour. Methinks she won't let them.First of all, she did Blade: Trinity, so why in the heck wouldn't she want to do this? I bet it has a better shot at being loved, as long as the rush to finish it pre-strike doesn't make it crappy. If she does a good job, it would also help solidify her career, which is growing -- but hasn't had that solid hit, or prominent role, to keep her professional future secure. Finally, this could potentially lead to another film role -- I imagine if she can handle Wonder Woman, the feature film that Joss Whedon walked away from might start cooking up once again.
I have to say, I don't completely hate Biel for the role. That being said, I'm still going to mourn the fact that it isn't Charisma Carpenter. Sure, she got a lot of buzz having worked with Whedon before, but man, she definitely fits the part, and has some action scene fighting experience to boot. Oh well, at least it isn't Katie Holmes!

I think she is hot, and I have liked her in what I have seen, but she just doesn't project Amazonian. We'll have to wait and see if she can pull it off in costume I guess.

No way! Jessica Biel doesn't have the body to pull off Wonder Woman. If Charisma isn't Wonder Woman then no one should be - she's perfect for it!

wow... mark it down.
first time ever jessica biel was told that she "doesnt have the body" for a movie role.
well other than that one time when she turned down the lead for "the woman who ate a million cheeseburgers".

Ugh, that's ruined it right there. . . That Australian gal looked like the Alex Ross version Wonder Woman. She wasn't Lynda Carter but she was pretty close. Biel? Blah!
Well I haven't put much stock in DC Superhero movies in a long time. It wasn't as if I'd be going to see the movie anyway.

Here's the thing, though - if Biel plays WW in Justice League, does that mean she won't be WW if they try and launch the series? I mean, Bale and Routh are probably out, so does that mean if they do a solo WW series we can still have a WW that isn't Jessica Biel? Not that I really have anything against Jessica Biel, but this just seems like the "fast track" mentality casting decision right here. Bale was an inspired choice, and Singer went out of his way to find and promote Routh, but with Biel such a name already, this seems like the equivalent of casting Jessica Alba for the FF just to get that name in there. It's like they are already assuming that the product may not be that great, so they're covering their bases by getting a name and a body in that suit.
My guess is that if they do ever get WW off the ground that they'll not cast Biel in the role. Or at least, that's what I would do.
Then again, if they cared about what I would do, they wouldn't have fast tracked a massive superhero team movie. They would have taken their time and treated it right, nurtured it and helped it along. Then I would have made sure that I could get both Routh and Bale, even if it meant waiting for Nolan to finish. Then I would have cast people that would be great to launch their own solo series if the opportunity arose. A great Flash, GL, Manhunter, and WW that really embodied the role the same way that Bale did Batman. Of course, that's just me.

I would have preferred Morena Baccarin from Firefly/Serenity, but oh well. Jessica Biel? Sure. It's just a comic book movie.

I only hope Wonder Woman is not used as "window" dressing! When she was conceived as a comic book, the idea was to present her as a strong, independent woman at a time in history when women were second class citizens. And, I truly hope that whoever produced the film don't make a hoaky, idiotic, comic book satire. Comic books fill a very definite need in young peoples lives, as many reputable psychologist have continually affirmed. Smallville, in TV is a prime example of a comic book legend properly transferred to a live medium. While they've exapanded the legend, they haven't decended into satire and spoofing. Hopefully, the suits involved in the Justice League film will take a cue from the production team surrounding Smallville and while I'm mentioning film, "Batman Begins" which also played proper homage to a mythological hero.

To cast jessica beil in the wonder woman role would be the greatest fuck up of all time. There are only two actresses around that could be cast in that role Trish Stratus and Nadia Bjorlin.

Justice League movie? That right there tells you the whole thing is a bad idea.
Just as bad as having Superman father a child with Lois out of wedlock.
Yay, Superman's a deadbeat dad who was too irresponsible to wear protection. Sounds like my kind of superhero!

I think she'll be hot as wonder women...she'll be dropping in on mammoth size waves at Jaws with Laird Hamiton surfing her new Evolution Surf surfboard.
Go girl!
