Doctor Who: Another Feature Film?
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, RumorMonger, Remakes and Sequels
I'm so not a fan of most science fiction, but man, Doctor Who fills me with fangirl glee. Even when the show gets almost too campy to bear, I'm there, eating it up -- but even with its misses and sometimes-silliness, the show has done a great job of bringing the series into the next century. And hey -- any show that can survive the loss of their main character, Christopher Eccleston, and bring on the likes of David Tennant, well, they know what they're doing. Why does this matter to Cinematical? Well, just the other day, The Guardian announced that the BBC might be considering another Doctor Who movie. The details: Jane Tranter, the BBC controller of fiction, talked about a BBC move and said: "This move is not about making feature films about things that are on the television -- those ideas are staring us in the face already and may seem too obvious." However, when asked about Who: "I would not rule out a film version of Doctor Who, no." Sure, she only said she wouldn't rule it out, but that statement coming after the previous one is telling. Of course, it's understandable that they would look into features since the show is doing so damned well for the BBC. I can only hope that if they do, we get more Tennant, and please, oh please, more Captain Jack Harkness. What say you?

I know most fans regard Doctor Who:The Movie, the tv pilot film from 1996 with 8th Doc Paul McGann that was supposed to relaunch the series, as cheesy or bad, but I actually enjoy it. It's my personal favourite. The Cushing DW films don't quite count, from what I gather he's not a Timelord in them just an eccentric.
Doctor Who is a rare show that survives again and again the change of the lead. It sort of has different flavours for different tastes with each actor as the Doctor.

I hope that David Tennant agrees to do it, because he might not stick around for much longer (unfortunately...)

Excellent, I like sci fi, good sci. Especially when a revamped series does well, ala Battlestar Galactica. I wish someone could have saved Star Trek form going down hill.

My hope is that if they do a movie it will be a multi-Doctor pic, so we can get Eccelston and Tennant in it. That way even if Tennant has moved on by then we could have the 9th and 10th Doctors meet up with the 11th (whoever that may one day be)
Maybe we could even have Rose and Martha met each other. You never know, it could work.

I've been saying a feature film to end Tennants run would be really nice - it would have to feature -
Rose - the main reason the show started out so good
Darleks- the ultimate bad guys
Torchwood cast - that show is just plain excellent
also the film needs to be really dark and a PG-13 no less, If Tennant is leaving the show then this film could sling shot the next Doctor.
Also a good director would make a great change - how about a Paul Greengrass on the Helm ?

Forget it. The movie version will never happen unless the BBC decides to end its realism monopoly to the whole "Dr. Who" franchise and therefore, give the rights of the show to either an American mainstream entertainment company in Los Angeles or a Hollywood independent film company that specializes in international films. Other than the Guardian Newspaper is just blowing smoke to a whole lot of die-hard "Dr. Who" fans that want you believe anything about falsehood rumors and gossip crap from half baked entertainment reporters on the job.
BTW, the new show I seen is garbage. It's nowhere near to the classic series; the characters are all wooden with a lack of humor and personality changes. David Tennent however is not Tom Baker! Period! Anybody who thinks he is better than the Baker himself needs a reality check at the mental ward.

"Fangirl glee". Yes. That sounds about right.
I also would have to add "I almost fell out of my chair at the sheer excitement of there being even a vague chance of a Doctor Who movie with David Tennant".
Because that would be the greatest. Having suffered here in America waiting for months until we get some Doctor Who, I would say this would be awesome.
I agree with (I forget who) when they say it should end Tennant's run. We all know he's probably going to leave after series four--maybe five. It'd be a lovely way to wrap things up.
