A Convenient Truth: Al Gore Wins the Nobel Peace Prize
Filed under: Documentary, Independent, Awards, Cinematical Indie
Good ol' Al Gore has some such a very long way. After being Bill Clinton's Vice President, he "lost" to George Dubya Bush in his own Presidential bid and slipped off the radar. Who would have ever imagined that a few years later, he'd make waves with a Power Point presentation-turned-super-popular documentary called An Inconvenient Truth, win an Emmy, and Oscar, and now, the Nobel Peace Prize. Yes folks, The Age reports that his Nobel nomination came through with a co-win that he shares with IPCC chairman Dr. Rajendra Pachauri. He is, of course, "deeply honored" to win the $1.5 million prize, and will be giving his share to the Alliance for Climate Protection, which is a non-profit organization he founded last year. Gore says: "We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity. It is also our greatest opportunity to lift global consciousness to a higher level."
Not everyone agrees, and Australian Age includes a rather amusing run-down of their own country's political responses. Prime Minister, John Howard refused to watch the documentary and wouldn't take policy advice from films. Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane said: "There are three places I do not go for advice on climate change," and proceeded to list the Labor Party of Australia, the movies, and "unsuccessful candidates for the US presidency." Obviously, not everyone shares their opinion, and it's pretty impressive to see continued recognition coming from one small film. So, how long will it take for the next round of presidential hopeful buzz to fade, or will this actually convince him to try again?

*sigh*
Former President Gore didn't win an Oscar; the Oscar was awarded to the director, Guggenheim, and the producers.

Let's just forget for a second what a douche this guy is.
What the hell does telling people the planet is warmer by 1 degree in the last couple hundred years have to do with PEACE???
Congrats Nobel committee for finally making yourselves 100% a joke.

I guess mayorjimmy didn't listen to the Nobel comments as to how global warming affects peace. Natural resources are one of the biggest sources of conflict on the planet. Nations fight over sources of water; they reverse the flow of rivers to keep other nations from getting water. Problems like this are obviously exacerbated with global warming. Whether Gore is in fact a douche or not, I can't say. I don't know the man. However, climate change and the protection of natural resources has much to do with peace.
And as Joseph J. Finn says, Gore did not win an Oscar.

Does anyone really need to know what a racist douchebag like John Howard thinks? No. But this does not have to do with films much either?

Can you please keep your leftist agenda confined to your private blogs? I come here for sweet distraction from the everyday junk I'm assaulted with by an already very left-leaning media. Now I have to read this joke of a story on Cinematical too? Never mind if global warming is real or theory, and believe me I have a very strong opinion on it but this isn't the forum for it. Our main topic should be relegated to film. This story is not centered on that. I'm left to assume that our writer here is a very happy liberal/global-warming hack who's rubbing it in. Spare us please... The Nobel Peace Prize became something of a joke years ago. This further cements that regrettably downward spiral.

You do not understand what "theory" means ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory )
I am "left to assume" you don't know what constitutes a logical arguments or valid science. Why do you have an "opinion" with regards to a scientific matter? What is your opinion on gravitational attraction?
You are welcome to hate--or just be annoyed by--Al Gore. I am too. But, please, do yourself a favor and develop an objective perspective on matters of science.
It is a *fact* that our climate is changing, it is a *theory* that human actions are accelerating it. It is a *fact* that things fall, it is a *theory* that this is due to an invisible force we call gravity.
It is a fact that we are pouring billions and billions of tons of "stuff" into our atmosphere, there is very strong evidence that this will have an effect eventually. Why does this stir up your vitriolic, political fervor? Save that for gun control and abortion.
Also, you do not "have to read" this story, you chose to.

AS THE PLANET HEATS UP, YOU DON’T HAVE TO!
AP – Al Gore has for a long time been full of hot air. He has a vivid imagination about the world. His mistrust of the seasons seems to stem from an episode of the Twilight Zone, in which the Earth gets too close to the Sun. Al is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures needed to create a more effective global antiperspirant.
If college roommate Tommy Lee Jones, could save the City of Los Angeles from errant magma (Volcano), and the world entire from a giant cockroach (Men In Black), then Al Gore deserves a prize for his initiative to combat global wetness. The same trusted formula that kept our leaders dry during the Cold War. Clinton tested: guaranteed to leave no trace.
The committee that awarded Al Gore the Nobel Peace Prize included a university president, a theologian, and a consultant. Moe, Larry, and Curly could not be reached for comment. And, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, with whom Gore shares the prize, does not carry out research, nor does it monitor climate or related phenomena. Given the newfound legitimacy for Global Warming, a “private group” out of Monterey, California, vies to seed the North Atlantic with iron oxide to help plankton absorb carbon dioxide (greenhouse gasses). Strategy: “cleanup the planet and make a buck on the side.”
So, to whom did Al Gore donate the $1.8 million dollar Nobel purse? Who is the Alliance for Climate Protection? Perhaps not coincidentally, Al Gore is the founder and chairman of the § 501(c)(3) alliance. Three guesses who the IPCC are. But why should science be immune from grasping politicians? Aren’t they doing “good” for the collective? Aren’t their distortions justified, because they’re better than? Isn’t this the psychology of the left? Why should the facts matter; after all, when it came to pirating the “Peace Dividend” to create that new cultural paradigm, the venture paid off: http://theseedsof9-11.com
