Rupert Evans Cast as Superman in 'Justice League of America?'

A day does not go by without someone receiving a scoop regarding casting for the new Justice League of America film. Just this morning, I met a kid outside while walking my dog who claimed to be "close to a few studio execs." I asked him if he knew anything about Justice League, and he claimed to know who had been cast as Batman. "Oh really?" I replied. "Who?" That's when he smirked, spit something out of his mouth and said, "Your Mothah! Oh, Snaps!" Gotta love New York. Anyway, the latest rumors come to us from Dark Horizons, who received an anonymous email from someone claiming to be "in the know" when it came to JLA casting sessions over in London. And what do they know, you ask?
Well, for starters, they claim British actor Rupert Evans has landed the part of Superman in the live-action flick. Here's a quote from the email (which may or may not be legit): "Anyway after going through a whole bunch of British actors, I heard today that one of them has been cast as Superman. Anyway, the guy everyone is talking about is called Rupert Evans." ANYway, who knows what the deal is -- right after that sentence, the person claimed Jesus Christ himself had been cast as Martian Manhunter ... SO take it all with a grain of salt. (Actually I'm kidding about the Christ stuff, but wouldn't that be an interesting move?) Evans starred in the 2004 film Hellboy, and he certainly has those cute, boy-ish, All-American looks ... except for the fact that he's not American, he's British. Which brings me to my next question: Are you cool with a Brit playing Superman? Of course he won't speak with a British accent, but would it bother you hardcore Supes fans at all if you knew the actor portraying him was not American? Think about it over coffee, debate with your co-workers and leave a comment.

Wow why don't they go ahead and cast Pam Anderson as wonder woman, and Micheal Moore as Batman, I mean while we are on bad casting.

This can't be accurate. What's with this new tendency to cast sensitive, vanilla-fey types as the Man Of Steel? Does that say something about how Hollywood views a male exemplar? And I don't need anyone blathering on about Michael Keaton-style "countercasting" choices. The character is supposed to represent an ideal that's above and beyond the ordinary, and that includes an imposing physicality. Tom Welling would make a fine Supes, but I can't blame him for not wanted to get involved with a project like this, if Rupert Evans is being seriously considered for the part. Hell, gimme The Rock as Clark Kent, if you're going to go off the rails in casting -- though, thinking about it, Duane wouldn't be all that bad. Except they undoubtedly can't afford him.

I still don't understand why they don't just cast Tom Welling and call it a day.

Christian Bale's not American and he played Batman. ... Er, hate to point this out but Superman's not a (native) American either.

Unless this is supposed to be justice league as teen titans I'm not understanding the young Hollywood casting here. I do have an issue with Supes being a non-American but not enough that if it was someone really good and capable of pulling off the All-American thing. I know people have mentioned him in jest but in all honesty The Rock would make a fantastic Man of Steel. He is an action star. Women think he's attractive. He's the right age and definitely has the right body for the suit. (supes is a football player not a baseball player.) The only issue would be getting over the non white issu but I think he'd look better in that suit than most guys except maybe Tom Welling. (but after the direction Smallville has taken I'm not certain about him as Superman anymore.)

Was it really THAT hard to get Tom Welling??? I understand the difficulties in casting a character like Wonder Woman or even Batman since they couldn't use Christian Bale, but Superman should have been a no-brainer. I have so little interest in this film right now.

I personally believe this project is going to be a complete failure, maybe even bigger than waterworld (I already write this review in other websites), it dosesnt matter who they cast for superman, the image of Cristopher Reeve remains in the head of everyone, although I believe Brandon Routh did a terrific job in Superman Returns. In general the project is going to be similar to that Catwoman movie that no one so. I think the moviegoers in general want to see a more artistic aproach of the characters, you casting people should learn from what John Favreu and Cris Nolan are doing. My twelve year old nephew was educated in a artistic-oriented school and just told me the whole project stincks, so I dont believe in this project even if is aimed at children like audiences.
