In high school, I was involved with a group of people that wrote letters and campaigned for attention to Darfur by local, state, and some Congressional politicians. Now, as a college film student, I am very much interested in the documentary genre, and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to devour a film about something that I care about, but also to devour it as a film itself.

Last year, my friend Austin (who I would take to the screening with me) worked as an editor for the group "Invisible Children," which serves to raise awareness and financial and political support for the cause of ending the Lord's Resistance Army's practice of kidnapping children in Uganda and turning them into child soldiers and sex slaves.
Though a very different situation than the one in Darfur, learning the horrors that occur there daily opened both of our eyes to the plights of the entire continent of Africa. We are interested in the stories of hope that emerge from these places, both as filmmakers and as human beings.

One of our 11th grade students has just put together a Darfur Awareness week at Marlborough school, from getting speakers to letter writing to hosting a fabulous African food lunch to raise money. She is an amazing student in what one teenage girl can accomplish and it would be great for her to be one of the first to see this movie.

I'd love tickets to this. I know very little about the Darfur Conflict, and know I need to do more than read the wikipedia entry. A pair of tickets would take my little sister and I to the show, and I promise we'll share what we learn.
thanks-
jorge
ps: my sister hasn't even read the wikipedia entry!

Seeing this film would be an opportunity to learn more about the genocide in Darfur so I would have more information to tell everyone who asks me about it--since they notice the green "Not on Our Watch" wristband that I wear--all day, every day (I bought a supply from the savedarfur.org website) or they see the green magnetic "ribbon" that I have on the side of my car--people stop me in the stores, at red lights, on the sidewalk, in my business meetings, just about everywhere-and ask me about my wristband or ribbon, and I tell them about Darfur--, and many times I give them the green wristband I am wearing and encourage them to research it for themselves--or I give them one of the others I carry in my purse. I encourage my college and high school aged nieces and nephews to spread the word at their schools and among their friends--they live in the Midwest and they need to understand they are a part of the world, not just their little world, and even though they are teenagers--they can make a difference. (Fortunately, they are the kind of people who also think that knowing what's going on in the world is a lot more important and more interesting than knowing what's going on with the latest "troubled Hollywood's car accidents, or overdoses, or rehab activity").
I want to be as informed as I can be--so I can speak intelligently on the subject and persuade others to take action. I have several friends who also support efforts to end the genocide in Darfur, and one of them would be thrilled to be able to attend with me.

I would appreciate the opportunity to attend the premiere of Darfur Now in a cinematic sense and an educational sense. Americans, like myself, do not know of the atrocities occurring across the globe unless we open our eyes and look.

I read today that the government of Sudan has agreed to another cease fire. The number of times they have agreed and rescinded is heartbreaking. They lie and people continue to suffer and die.
I'd be interested in viewing this film because I'd like to know more about the situation. It's a fact that we get wrapped up in our day-to-day lives (and those of us here in California have had our hands full in the last week) but we also need to remember that so many in the rest of the world are suffering daily with no help at all from their own government.
With all that takes our attention, I feel films like this and screenings such as this, will help to continue to keep this situation in the media's eye.
I'd appreciate the opportunity to learn more.
Thanks.

Don't know if they already picked the winners, but KEVIN, if you win and read this in time, can I use your other ticket. I, too, only was asking for one ticket.
