'X-Files 2' Gets Ready to Roll This December

Though this much talked-about sequel has been flying under the radar, with most of the news coming from different interviews with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, it appears 20th Century Fox is making it a high priority picture. Coming Soon reports The X-Files 2 will begin production in Vancouver on December 10th, with both Duchovny and Anderson reprising their roles as Special Agent Fox Mulder and Special Agent Dana Scully. Series creator Chris Carter will direct the film off a script written by Carter and Frank Spotnitz. Apparently, casting breakdowns refer to the film under the tile of Done One. Not sure if that means anything, but the most obvious is that, well, they've "done one" film and now they're doing another.
This news confirms what Duchovny first told folks back in September; at that time, he confirmed that the script was finished and they were supposed to begin filming at some point in December. There's no word on what the sequel will be about, but we do know that it won't pick up where the last one left off. This will be a straight-up stand alone story that, supposedly, has nothing to do with the first film or (I think) the show. No word on a release date yet, but I'd imagine we might see it arrive in theaters in January or February of 2009. It's been almost 10 years since the original X-Files film hit theaters, and it will be interesting to see if the show's massive fanbase still shows up for the sequel. Here's a question for you fans: Is this too little too late, or are you stoked about watching Mulder and Scully reunite for one more adventure?

As long as it plays out like an extended version of one of the monster-of-the-week episodes, I'm really excited.

my excitement level depends entirely on the strength of the trailers. if it seems to feel like a fitting conclusion, and all the things we've always wanted to see from an x-files movie, i'm there.

About Freaking Time! I think using a stand-alone film rather than one that follows the deep mythology is best as it's been so long that there will probably be younger viewers in the seats that aren't familiar with all that happened in the series.
I'm quite excited!

It can't be a sequel to the first film, because that plot continued in the show basically, so it will either pick up at the end of the series or be just a random paranormal event thing. Either way, I'm totally excited. Even when X-Files was bad, it was always at least humorously bad, and when it was good it was really entertaining.

It's been way too long for an x-files movie. This isn't going to do well at the box office at all. They won't be even able to please the fan base unless they tie up loose ends from where the series left off and trying to cultivate a new audience will be difficult at best. This should have been made within a couple of years after the series ended.

I'm scared of the new movie. The last two seasons broke my heart (and any faith that new writers on old shows with lots o' fans could, y'know, not completely mess everything up) and to be honest, I don't see how CC and co can return to the good ol' days.
Unless, of course, it was all 'just a dream'.

I'm always interested in stand-alone episodes more than mythology. Watching them having an exciting adventure is really fun.

I actually just got really into the X Files over the summer, thanks to 2 in the morning reruns. I watched the series finale back in the day just to see what people saw in the show, and I'm curious to see what would happen to Mulder and Scully. I think they should get sex changes to look like each other and call themselves Sculder and Mully.

Well I never saw the TV show when I went and saw the movie. The movie did not make into a fan. It did not make want to watch the TV show. So I for one could care less for X-Files 2. AM I alone here?

Bloody fantastic news for us xfiles fans and about time, make it a great stand alone, stay away from the show and give us a reboot of this brilliant tv show, there has never been anything close to the xfiles when it was firing on all cylinders

It will never be too late to see Mulder and Scully again.
Yes, the wait has been painful. And sometimes it seems as if those beautiful memories that X-Files left us were starting to vanish in the whirlwind of time. But the truth is the x-philes are so hungry of Mulder and Scully that at this point nothing matters we just want to see them again.
True fans will never forget them, get sick of them or think it's too late for a new movie. Or simply they are not true fans.

I've been a fan of the show since the beginning. I was 13 when it started and 21 (almost 22) when it ended. While I'll admit that season 9 was weak (I actually really enjoyed season 8), I still believe strongly that the creators of the show still know how to make a good Mulder and Scully stand-alone story fit for the big screen. They don't have to compensate for Mulder's contract expiring by getting new cast members. They don't have any obligation to the storyline of the show except what we know of the characters themselves. They've got our two most beloved characters reunited, and as long as they keep the spirit of the show in tact, it'll be a great film - whether it's a box office success or not. Remember, the last film wasn't much of a box office juggernaut either. But it was a good film for the fans.
