Hot in 2007: Year of the Geek (#1!)
 Hot because: It's finally cool to be a freak and a geek. Ever since folks like Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and McLovin' arrived on the scene, our lives haven't been the same since. We've laughed at them, with them and for them ... and -- whaddya know -- plenty of woman would gladly take a one-night-stand with this guy. They might not all be virgins (especially after the year they've had), but they'll (hopefully) always remain honest and young at heart.
How to stay hot: Stay the course; don't get roped into the whole "celebrity" thang, and continue to create relatable characters that are funny and have a heart of gold. Bong hits, fake IDs and house parties? Good. A freak-ish amount of well-drawn penis illustrations? Not so much. |

Heh. Very enjoyable list. And I think I agree with your #1.
Although perhaps the Coen Bros. deserved a mentioned...they had quite a comeback this year.

Did New Line pay you to plug TGC?
Less than $26 million on an opening weekend without competition is not hot. Outside of bloggers and a few fans of the book (none that I know personally, however), was there anyone lining up to see and an adaptation of TGC?
From the complete absence of anyone queuing up to see this movie, I'd say no. Not hot. Not hot at all.

every year since napoleon dynamite came out has been all about geek chic. You're right though, with superbad and knocked up, the geek really came into his own in 2007 and solidifyed himself has the new leading man. Or more specifically, Michael Cera as the new leading man. Now to take it to the next level, I want someone telling me its okay to be a girl and be a geek too. Juno is an amazing start, but now I want to see 'Juno' in a more 'Superbadian' script.
