Lame in 2007: Movies Based on Video Games (#7)
Lame because: For some reason Hitman chose to focus on the non-killing scenes instead of the scenes where the hitman, you know, hits people. And for some reason Resident Evil: Extinction kind of did the same thing. How to turn it around: This is a tough one because so far, not a single movie based on a video game has been any good. (The first Resident Evil is a possible exception, depending on who you ask. Not if you ask me, though.) The best of them are chock-full of action -- but it often feels like watching someone else play a video game, i.e., not nearly as fun as playing it yourself. Maybe the answer is to give up and make movies based on other things.

I enjoyed this movie. It reminded me of the last bond movie but with a hotter girl and none of the cheesy one-liners. And the movie had a pretty good amount of action considering the game is all about being disguised and stealth about the kills.

A good videogame movie is virtually impossible to make. VGs simply don't need character development because the user controls the action they have an instant connection to what's going on and films require more. The nearest they have come to a good adaptation is 'Silent Hill' and that film just confused non-fans who had not played the games.
Hitman just came across as a generic action movie.

I don't get the whole movies based on video games thing. Like you said the best thing about playing video games is making all the moves yourself. Putting them in with movies makes no sense to me because it takes away one of the main reasons people like video games in the first place. It also doesn't go along with the fundamental ideas of movies either. For the most part they're supposed to reflect real life so watching angelina jolie punch out a shark and then ride its tail fin to the surface doesn't live up to that either, does it? I can see basing video games on movies, but not the other way around. And they don't seem to do very well either.
