Check Out the New Knight Rider Car!
Filed under: Action, Fandom, Remakes and Sequels, Images

There's no more Trans Am goodness for Michael Knight or rather, the next generation -- Mike Tracer. (Every time I hear his name, I think of the Chasing Amy tracer rant.) The first KITT was a Pontiac Trans Am T-top, but this time around, the Knight Rider back-door pilot/television special is getting some Ford power. Jalopnik scored pictures of the new generation KITT, and it's a 550 HP Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang, which you can see above.
Never being a Trans Am fan, I'm pretty happy with the auto choice. It's modernized, but it still has the lights and KITT feel to it. (The site mentions that the lights were photoshopped in for the picture, because they weren't working when it was taken; but otherwise, that's the car in all its real glory.) Before, I just liked the idea of a car you could chat with -- it makes long trips alone all the more fun. (I wonder if KITT would sing along to the radio?) But now, I would love to take that out for a test-drive. How about you?

Well their goes that remake. Any chance that this project had of being successful was to embrace the core of the original series, the Hoff, talking car, voice of Kitt, and of course the Trans Am. I know well enough that Pontiac currently does not make the supped up firebird any more but to go and slap a light on a mustang and call it kitt, there's no justice. Can we at least put a nose some kind of additions to the stang. Note the Knight Industries Two Thousand (three thousand)–or KITT was to be a car unlike any other in the world not just another poor man's muscle car. I hope that the creator’s get some kind of brain before they go forth with this sad attempt of a failed Kitt.

Since when is a Shelby a "poor man's muscle car?"
Times change. VW lost Bumblebee. Pontiac lost Knight Rider. Pontiac currently makes NOTHING worthwhile. The Camaro is already too closely identified with Transformers. So what was really left?
The Shelby is a hell of a lot different from a regular Mustang than the original Kitt was from a Trans Am. That Trans Am was, in what became a Pontiac tradition, just a regular car with tons of extra fiberglass bolted on.
Of course, if you're some crazy purist then the plot doesn't matter, all you want is exactly what you had before, even if what you had before kind of sucks in retrospect.

Im not sure about it. Its a nice car but it lacks the sleekness and mysteriousness that the original had. I am a big fan of the Ford Mustang but as knightrider, im not too sure (does look like the lights only there because its the only place they could fit it). I think they should definately scrap the stripes and keep it all black. I preferred the Koenigsegg CCX photoshopped fake rumour that was flying around.
